These are the newest Assassin's Creed games on Steam. Everything released in the last 2 years.

All of them together sold well under 1 million.

Six games in a supposed blockbuster franchise moved about as many copies as one indie game like Undertale.

What happened?
>>
It's just a bad franchise
People played it ten years ago because there weren't as many options
Now there are good games so we don't need to play AC
>>
Syndicate sold like shit on consoles too, people don't really care about this series anymore.
>>
I was about to ask if half of those were DLC because I haven't heard a single word about them, and then noticed "Standalone Game".
>>
>>322351294
Why have I heard of only Unity and Syndicate out of those? What the fuck are those other 4?
>>
>>322351294
It's a terrible series
>>
>>322354071
Liberation is a port of a Vita game. Freedom Cry is DLC for Black Flag made standalone, Chronicles is a sidescrolling spinoff, Rogue was the last-gen console game that came out at the same time as Unity because Unity was PS4/Xbone only, and is basically reskinned Black Flag.

>>322351294
This is missing Uplay and consoles. But yeah, the string of rushed buggy releases have lost Ubisoft a lot of trust.
>>
>>322351294
it's obvious that people have gotten sick of rehashes

undertale was a one of a kind game, completely unique in all its aspects, that's why it managed to bet the most successful game of the year. people are finally waking up and realizing that paying $60 for the same game every year isn't a worthwhile investment.
>>
The series has gotten stale, people are tired of it already. Ubisoft will probably just move onto milking Farcry next since casuals fire and wide love empty open worlds with tacked on XP systems.
>>
>>322355859
>people are finally waking up and realizing that paying $60 for the same game every year isn't a worthwhile investment.

Hasn't stopped Cawwadoody one bit.
>>
>>322351294
Retail is Uplay only.
Most sane people buy it on Uplay since you have to use it anyway and running both of them just to play the game is redundant.
>>
Syndicate was pretty decent. The city is beautiful and the grappling hook was a welcome addition but they need to do more. Revamp the AI and "stealth" completely.
>>
They Got Lazy, Old Re-used Ideas, Ascreed Aint What She Used Tah Be
>>
AC1 2 Brotherhoon and revelations were the last breaths the series let out, they killed it after that AC3 was okay i liked the character but not good by any means...
>>
Why does this series have so many fucking games?
>>
>>322356772
why does megaman has so many fucking games?
>>
>>322351294
The only decent Asscreed game from that list is Rogue, which was a spin-off from Black Flag, which was among the only good Asscreed games, Brotherhood, 1 and 2.
>>
>>322357150
Megaman came out in the 80s
>>
>tfw in hindsight, that one pornographic comic about Jade Raymond is what set off the downfall of the series
>>
Most people don't get it because they usually run like shit on PC and the franchise is more popular on console.
>>
What happened?

The indie scene is a different market that appeals to a different demographic than the AAA market.

The indie scene is fickle and nostalgic, the AAA market is stubborn and extremely competitive.
>>
>>322351294
PC gamers don't buy games.

Are you just now figuring this out?
>>
>>322351294
the combat was always shit, what made the franchise popular to begin with was the charisma of characters like ezio and the pseudo historical virtual tourism that let us explore cool places we will never see IRL and kill a bunch of faggy foreigners... it's basically the american dream.
>>
The game is sold on Uplay as well as Origin too. Add those numbers up and you'll get an accurate figure.
>>
>>322357446
and stopped getting games every 9 months in 90's.
>>
>>322351294
>what happened?

After AC2 they started dropping spinoffs and side games and a new game every fucking year.
>>
>>322357716
Also, Uplay keys are often cheaper than Steam ones on key selling sites
>>
>>322351294
According to vgchartz it sold about 3mil altogether, but that's still half of what Unity sold, which sold about 5mil less than Black Flag.

The series isn't selling that well anymore because they're making too many games, simple as that. There were also quite a few other big titles that came out this year that stole people's attentions. I mean do they really think people will buy the nth Assassin's Creed in the past few years when fucking MGSV, Fallout 4, Witcher 3 etc. are coming out this year?

But games like Undertale are also a fraction of the price of an Assassin's Creed game, so you have to keep that in mind. Selling as much as that game still means that Ubisoft is profiting bigger.
>>
>>322358210
>Selling as much as that game still means that Ubisoft is profiting bigger.

Not necessarily. Undertale is made by one guy/small team, thousands of people work on every Ubisoft game.
>>
>>322358474
well then there huge teams are doin a pretty shite job as of now
>>
Once they killed off Desmond my interest in the game was cut in half. They spent five whole fucking games making it out to be his story, that he's becoming a modern day master assassin. And finally getting to play missions as him in asscreed 3 was great. Then he just gets a subpar death, and they literally run him into the ground with future games. "Oh abstergo harvested his organs so now they can always look into his ancestral past".
>>
>>322359276
this
he + altair and ezio were the only reasons why I gave a shit, once I finished Revelations I haven't come back to the series since
>>
>pc port of a popular console game doesnt sell well that means the game is a failure
>isnt even steam exclusive
>is uplay required
>barely anyone buys it on pc
>shitters like yourself delusionally shitpost theg franchise because your total ass cancer overlord tells you to
>>
>>322359654
3 may be worth playing to you if you want to play some missions as desmond. But connor is by far the least interesting assassin they ever made. He's just to bland.
4 is a great pirate game, not really an assassin game though
>>
>>322351294
Syndicate is great, but they need to stop shagging the franchise into oblivion by releasing shit knockoff titles.
>>
>>322359185

That's pretty unfair, there are a lot of people at Ubisoft that do a great job. Their production values in terms of art and sound really is top of the line.

The inherent problem with making video games is that a good game is the result of creative ideas, not man-hours. At the same time you need these big teams to produce all the shit that's going to be in a huge game like Assassin's Creed or Battlefield. At the end of the day, the gameplay is designed by a handful of producers and designers.
>>
>>322360019
>not really an assassin game though
None of them are an "assassin" game
>>
>>322360019
I played three, my toaster couldn' treally run it and I didn't give a shit about connor, the real life freerunning was really cool but that was it
>>
why do normies keep buying these sequels? It can't be /v/ that keeps buying this crap.
>>
>>322360174
I meant assassin game as in assassins creed game. They should have kept that entirely out and made an all pirate story line
>>
Series stopped being good after AC 2 desu
>>
>>322360019
>4 is a great pirate game, not really an assassin game though
That's why Black Flag is the best one since AC2.
>>
Annual open-world games is a terrible idea. Series fatigue is being exacerbated by the steady decline in quality. People are just tired of it. Publishers need to take a look at this series, Call of Duty, and Guitar Hero/Rock Band and re-evaluate their business plans.
>>
Every single game was good. /v/ is just full of retarded children to admit it.

However, I wouldn't buy any of these games for more than $15
>>
>>322360458
>The most successful publisher in the business should take advice from an armchair specialist on /v/

sure thing buddy
>>
>>322360458
>re-evaluate their business plans.
The reason they make the games annual is because people keep buying them. Until people stop buying they are going to keep shitting out a new one every year
I'm really hyped for For Honor and I'm worried ubi will just fuck that shit up
>>
>>322360597
>most successful publisher in the business
>can't even break even on their biggest franchise
>>
Several reasons:

>High PC requirements for Unity and Syndicate
>Requires Uplay to use
>No benefits of steam like Steam Workshop or Steam Achievements.
>Have been more or less the same shit since AC3.
>>
>>322360739
>can't break even
>only taking steam sales into account
>not uplay and consoles
kek
>>
>>322360739

You're completely clueless
>>
>>322351294
they turned it into a shovelware franchise and it's not a game that's fun year after year

they should have made like one game every 2-3 years, really focused on making them good, and then hyped each release up, then i'd still be playing
>>
>>322360019
The thing about AC3 is it was completely butchered by cut content - like, almost MGSV tier. They spent so much time and money on stupid shit nobody asked for like the trade caravan economy system and crafting mode with two hundred different fucking components that they had to cut chunks from the game in order to ship it by December 2012 (because muh mayans).

Originally, Haytham's content would've been a lot longer, Connor would've become more developed as a character, Desmond would've had more modern day sections like the Abstergo assault, that Cross guy (Vidic's fuccboi) would've been built up throughout the game as a rival and main antagonist to Desmond like his role in the comics instead of being just a reskinned guard who appears for the first time and dies within a five minute span, etc.

It could've actually been a really great game if they'd budgeted their time better. All the components were there, they just never polished it off.

this abomination happened
>>
>>322361141
Best one desu

People just like to cry about desmond
>>
>>322351294
Plain over saturation.

Everywhere I go, I see countless Assassin's Creed figurines, T-shirts, board games and comic books/novels.

That's not even including all the Assassin's Creed sub-series shit.

Ubisoft just need to slow the fuck down and actually think of a compelling new direction for the franchise.
Just take a two year break to look at where they went wrong with the last few games.
Then they should spend a solid 4 or 5 years creating a fully fledged, quality Assassin's Creed game.

That's never going to happen though, Ubisoft are retarded jews.

I'm waiting for them to go with an interesting setting again.

an Egyptian,Mughal or especially an Aztec asscreed would make me throw money at my screen so fast it would shatter all the window's at ubisoft's office, I would litterally pay like 500$ for an aztec one.
>>
>>322361323
>best one
>blandest character ever
>only emotion he ever conveys is anger
>ship mechanics are pure trash
>free running is restricted to trees for the most part, since settlements are so small
>you can free aim with the bow, but can't fire the bow unless you are aiming at a target
>shooting people in the leg doesn't cripple them
>literally impossible to imagine connor having a child because he's so bland and emotionless
>killed off main character, for seemingly no reason at all, after building him up for 5 whole games
>daniel cross, one of the biggest enemies who was built up over the games and comics, is a joke who appears for a whole 5-10 minutes
Honestly the only redeeming factor they could have done by killing Desmond was to have Juno posses his body. Make Desmond the new threat.

Also, I would have bought china had it been a full title and not a 2d spinoff.
>>
I don't know how people can even have fun with Ass creed, it's literally a parkour simulator
>>
>>322351294
Digital doesn't have an easily available way to tell number of games sold, except maybe the publisher themselves but they usually don't share that info so the numbers could be higher or lower for those games. Problem with AC is series exhaustion, a new game every year and people get tired of it.
>>
>>322362453
They're basically the best third person action platformers out there, and taking place in various awesome historical time periods helps too.
>>
>>322359948
also to add to this, you could basically say the same fucking shit about COD because it doesnt sell well on steam, when its literally the best selling game of all years everyyear
>>
>>322363051
>plataformer
>you hold down the button and your character does everything

I don't know if you can call that a plataformer senpai, I agree that the historical time periods are cool though
>>
>>322362453

Great production values. Cities look great
>>
>>322359276
Wow is that really all that happened? I haven't played any after 3, which I hadn't played since release and finally finished a few months ago, mostly out of disinterest. Same as you I guess.
Not that I particularly cared a lot about Desmond, but he was the connecting factor. I thought for sure they'd do something more than just kill him. Harvesting his organs is pretty hard core but not really what I had in mind. What a shame.
>>
can someone tell me if Unity is still broken on PC?

It's in a bundle with Rogue and I feel like playing another ship game as well as another good old Assassin's Creed, but only if Unity is worth playing now.
>>
>>322363486

Personally I could give less than a shit about desmond and the modern day stuff. I'd be happier if it was never there and never will be again.

But yeah, what is there now is just embarassing. Black Flag was one of the best entries in the series, and they pull you out of it every now and then to make you play fucking frogger for a few minutes.
>>
>>322363313
How is AC not an action platformer? It's about traversing rooftops, aiming for platforms/ledges to land on, avoiding falling from heights, etc. Doesn't matter that it's somewhat automated.
>>
>>322363486
Yeah, that's all that happened. He did maybe 3-4 missions himself and not in the animus, and then got killed off.
The kicker is they never even replaced him. They had a couple games after 3 where you play an abstergo employee going into the animus, but it's all first person from their point of view. And only puzzle gameplay as them. The latest games have no modern day gameplay at all
