Final Fantasy is my favorite overall series of all-time. Persona 4 is my single favorite game of all-time. I don't want to see them fight for survival. It hurts.

This is not a valid point. Scope isn't the definitive factor of a game's quality. I hate the notion that it is. Persona games are great because the small, enclosed location grants a closer connection with the game's cast. You become immersed in the town far more than you could become immersed in a big world in which you're constantly moving and forgetting places. I'll never forget a single street in Inaba, or a single NPC in it. I know that town better than my own neighborhood.
That's not to say open worlds are bad, or inferior if done right. But the implication that Final Fantasy is better simply because it has larger scale is silly.
