Then don't create characters for self inserting. You don't think people playing P&P, the father of both W and J RPGs had players creating self inserts all the time, right? The fun was giving your character their own story, and oftentimes playing someone unlike yourself.
I blame modern devs for making character creation just seem like this thing for self inserting when really it's a tool for more control to craft a character and their story. Possibly something beyond what the devs would have thought of.
