If I haven't played this and don't have the nostalgia factor is this worth picking up, or has it aged poorly?
In the mood for an RPG having just finished Rogue Galaxy
good weapons are kinda grindy, but town building is comfy as fuck
I enjoyed the sequel more, but this one should still hold up just fine.

comfy game.
dungeons and combat are simple though
Its an OK game filled with some really horrible design choices that will probably be hard to overlook if you're playing it for the first time today. The big one being that if your weapon hits 0 durability, its broken forever, and its not the sort of game where you can just make another one, you likely have used that sword you broke from the beginning of the game and poured 30 hours into upgrading it.
I honestly don't know if someone who plays it for the first time nowadays will like it. There's some really annoying stuff.
However, since you're asking about DC and said you just finished playing Rogue Galaxy, I'm assuming youre playing these on PS4 because those two just got released on it recently.
If that is the case, on the off chance you havent already played it, play FF7.
It just released on PS4 with those, and it aged a lot better.
Dark Cloud deserves to be remembered fondly, but at the same time it's aged like milk.
Play this instead mang.

How does it play compared to Dank Clouds?

Too bad there was no challenge. Literally spam X to win while NPCs dropped heals.
The sequel is widely considered to be better in every way, and is probably my favorite RPG ever.

This shit is why you save before going into any dungeon. Weapon you care about breaks? Just reload and use what you learned from the experience to do better.
