This game looks shit. Are there any space combat/sim games out there that are actually good and immersive? I'm talking about being able to explore your ship in first person, see the ship like you actually would if you were there. Pilot it in first person from the cockpit and shit.

Not really. If you just want cool views while aimlessly wandering around in space, space Engine is the best choice.
Elite: Dangerous would be my second pick and it's worth 15 bucks, but not the regular price.

All the Wing Commander games before IV have visible cockpits. The X-Wing games and TIE Fighter have them, too. I think Freespace 2 has some cockpit mods, but I've never really looked into them. I know the Diaspora mod has them.

I don't see the hate for the game. If you want a proper space sim obviously go play something like Elite Dangerous. If you want a more casual game then this or Starpoint Gemini 2 are solid games.
