I genuinely did not anticipate this. On the other hand I've pretty much gotten all I can out of it and I think a lot of the players feel the same way. They fixed it, but they fixed it too late.

2015 was a weird year for gaming in general.
Game streaming and letsplays reached a fever pitch, and with it, "meme" games came to the forefront.
By that, I mean games that are easy to understand at a glance, fun to watch and play, generally less expensive than AAA games, and more preoccupied with having fun in the moment than producing a long term "experience".

BO3 is genuinely fantastic. There's a fuckton of stuff to do. The multiplayer is really reminiscent of Titanfall but there's more cool shit to play around with. Zombies has always been awesome. The campaign is fucking hard on Realistic.

The main reason most people like the Witcher is because of the immersive world building, storyline, and the role-playing elements, and that's what they consider the gameplay to be. The combat is nothing special but everything else is exceptional.

Gameplay is what a player can actually do in the game. All I described (making choices, talking to people, exploring the world) is gameplay, along with combat. If the main goal of a game was to kill everything, you may consider combat to be the main part of the gameplay. That isn't the case for Witcher.

I really can't see Syndicate as that good. There were some nice features like the district conquering system and the various upgrades available, but the story was shallow, the freerunning didn't function very well, and the combat was far less challenging than what we had in Unity. The only major improvement I can think of is that the game didn't require a patch in order to be playable.

I've started playing both Dark Souls and Bloodborne for the first time recently. Have to say, I'm enjoying Bloodborne more. I haven't had to re-fight the same enemies nearly as many times since healing items can be obtained without resetting the entire area. Dark Souls' combat is good, but I get bored of killing 20 moderately difficult opponents over and over just so I can die to the same boss again because I ran out of estus flasks.

It's just that some niche series always stay niche and rarely disappoint anyone. Say, the latest Atelier. It did what everyone expected from it.
They don't set any standards, they aren't large scaled, they don't try to stand out technically. They're just there.
The AAA "shit" on the other hand, is massive and represents the current state of vidya. The possibility of them being a disappointment or/and trying to appeal to a larger audience here is much higher. But if a game ends up being actually good, it really pays off.

Then there were some good games like MKX, Undertale, ori, xrd hit on pc, Battlefront, Arkham Knight, rainbow six and black ops 3, and even ffxiv had a decent expansion.
I think it was a very good year for gaming, though it hasn't been without its dissapointment or controversy. Then again, I've yet to see a perfectly reviewed sequel from /v/ in over a decade.
