Think about how many of the jokes from 4chan in general have leaked to the rest of the internet. Look at what happened to pepe. Look at mfw, tfw, and so on. There's people on 4chan now who mainly go on reddit and tumblr and then 4chan "on the side". It's because of this massive leakage and how people just seemed to accept them and turn them into something else disconnected from the anonymous and weird environment of 4chan boards. Back when troll face went out there wasn't a big interest in visiting 4chan, but now you have places like reddit and imgur having all kinds of 4chan screencaps. There's a blur and there really isn't that much left that's only on 4chan. That's why it's gone downhill.
