Properly reacting to the with the unpredictable is an aspect of skill, you autists

When your enemy gets a critical hit or some equivalent, and one shots you, is there skill involved there?
How can you react if you're given no time or opportunity to react?

You just summed up why the Smash competitive community is bullshit.

I agree though you'll get a lot of hate. There's a reason the ftl Winsteak on hard is at 39 ships.

NOW TO REACT TO THIS UNPREDICTABLE SITUATION BY STARTING OVER FROM THE BEGINNING. HAHAHA, YOU CAN'T TOUCH MY SKILL. CHECK AND MATE

The only time i whine about RNG is when its in a turn based game where if the chain of events before it decided to be a ass basically put me in a no win situation. Like if Hitoshura's Pixie somehow misses putting Cielo to sleep and i lose to Gaea Rage because there is no other way to avoid it if no one falls asleep.

In real time games nah i agree. As long as something has tells and the player has reactions its fine.

yeah whatever op

I'm not disagreeing with you, I just think there is SOME RNG that is completely unskilled. Pic related.

The entire basis for that hero is RNG, it's fine, even moreso now that it's regulated between high stun/low damage and vice versa
>>
>>322150469
>have trap detection
>"I don't detect any traps"
>there were traps anyway, you just didn't detect them :^)
>>
>>322150467
Completely wrong. Reacting to the randomness and adjusting is not factored by your example at all. Taking safe bets and reinforcing against random critical failures is a skill.
>>
>>322149703
thanks doc
>>
What people who justify rng don't realize is that it's an intentional game feature to help pad out skill gaps between players and add variety to a game so people don't get bored, this is why CoD is a smash hit because of the ridiculous spawns that at times let the shittiest players have a good opportunity for a kill streak. Truly balanced games do not sell well, or a majority of people playing these games play less balanced modes, see tf2 and damage spread/nocrit servers. The people implementing these features know ful well it comes at the cost of fucking players over at times, when a good player gets fucked over by rng the bad player who can exploit it feels good and keeps playing.
>>
>>322150624
it's skillbased with heavy RNG elements (judging for randomness is a skill)
>>
>>322150196
>sm4sh is a good competitive game!!
>so good in fact, we have to limit your stage options
>and your character options
>and your move options
>oh and, no items
>on top of that, our rules are subject to change at any given point
>thanks and happy brawling you salty fucktards :^)

Agreed, what a joke community.
>>
RNG has no place in real-time multiplayer games, especially if they're parading themselves as "competitive". Its only benefit and the reason RNG is used is to make scrubs feel they're actually good every now and then instead of getting wrecked and leaving the game.
>>
>>322150983
damage from chaos bolt is negligible as the game goes on, and obviously you can avoid it before it hits you with BKB or other spell immunity, but if you get hit by a 4 second stun, I wouldn't say it's very skillful.

>I got killed because I'm retarded but I'll blame it on rng.webm

you shouldn't have to play against your opponent(s) and the game at the same time even if everyone's in the same situation

you never hear anyone getting mad at some random bullshit that happens without a player's input in games like Rocket League or most fighting games
>>
You're 100% correct OP. Everyone who disagrees is a salty faggot baby who got cucked by the rng one too many times.

If you don't want to miss don't run Stone Edge in the first place.

It's like they see RNG in games like Yathzee instead of stuff like Monopoly to see where RNG will take you, how to adapt to it quickly and generally be a quick thinker

>Properly reacting to the with the unpredictable
>>
>>322151019
So basically you're expected to play as if it doesn't exist because it's inherently unreliable
Why exactly do people bother with rng mechanics?
>>
>>322152575
>I can't defend my retard level skill so I'll shitpost instead

Ebin
>>
>>322152195
Not always. Take Pokemon for example, a game full of RNG. The move Swagger was banned from Smogon's ruleset partly because of the chance to hit yourself in confusion. It's 50/50, and most battles where Swagger was used devolved into coin flipping.
>>
>>322152904
not retarded babby games, sure
>>
>>322152575
if the results of an RNG mechanic are totally unpredictable you're either stupid or playing a bad game
>>
>>322152679
RNG keeps the game from becoming an already played out slog. It's no fun if everything you do already has a set outcome. It just turns the game into going through the motions. Maybe people like this, I don't know, but I don't and I'm sure others don't too. If you don't like RNG mechanics then don't play games with them.

It's especially stupid complaining about them in TBS games (like XCOM) where if everything happened 100% when you do it it would turn into just clicking to win and wouldn't be fun at all. I mostly see it demonized by people who want every game to be competitive like Counterstrike or SSBM. There's an audience for both types of games and if you don't like one of them then just don't play the games that are like that.
>>
>>322152904
RNG is only good if it's effect can always be mitigated or negated by player skill.

So no things like 500 random effects happening in the same turn that end up killing you without you having any agency in the matter
>>
People don't need help being random in competition.
>>
>>322153234
>I mostly see it demonized by people who want every game to be competitive like Counterstrike
The irony in this is that CS has been disgusting rng bullshit from the start.

It's only going through the motions if the mechanics are so fucking simple that a level of mastery can be reached within days

RNG is a way to make the most boring of games exciting to the braindead casual crowd
>>
>>322154307
This, true skill based games remove RNG in favour of giving the player more control over what happens.
Casual retards go nuts over stupid, wacky shit, patrician players enjoy the nuances and fine details of the events ocurring
