Do you what it takes to make graphics for video games? The quality of pixel art they've displayed is impressive even by today's standards. They're doing the best they can short of 3D graphics, or HD drawn sprites.(Which even professional studios don't attempt)

Making traditional RPGs takes a long time. Making one in small groups on your own takes even longer, and being able to correctly estimate how long it'll take is difficult.
There's a lot that goes into it before things are even visibly functioning, and that's not taking presentation, testing, and polish into consideration.
