Took me a few dozen tries, especially since I've never played 2hu or any bullethell.
Tip: Literally keep trying and memorize every attack pattern and if you think you're taking the wrong approach to an attack or don't know how to dodge one, watch a video of someone dodging that attack and apply yourself. Once you beat this fight, it actually becomes ridiculously easy and almost tempting to try it again.

Looking at this thread, I realized something. This game's fanbase is eerily similar to MLP.
Now, most people say that anything is "the next mlp" just because it's popular, but this game is going through the exact same steps as MLP did.
It started off as a fairly small group of people who liked something and shared it online, then, more people joined in.
After a while of this, a bunch of faggots joined in and started accusing anybody who didn't like "it" of not trying it themselves ("You have to watch/play MLP/Undertale to understand!")
There's also the furries that latched onto it, which caused people to say "We aren't like them!" Even though they most likely have a secret porn folder of it.
I'm not calling Undertale the next MLP, but just bringing up how similar both of these are in their evolution.

To be fair, the evolution of undertale's fanbase is fundamentally different from MLP.
Ponyshit started off as a little girl's cartoon, hit 4chan (where terms like 'brony' and shit spawned from), then exploded from there.
Undertale started as a kickstarter indie game with a demo, then tumblr found it (due to toby's involvement with the production of homestuck), then /v/ found it during the demo days, where it remained relatively obscure until the game came out, and it exploded from there.
But yeah, it is a little similar, though I'd say its more comparable to a less-popular FNAF than a new MLP.

Seems like there's been a lot of shitposting and not much help so here's my guide. I just beat him for the first time yesterday so it's still pretty fresh in my mind.
I hope you saved your pie and instant noodles for this fight because healing items make a big difference. If you don't have instant noodles yet, you can find them in Alphys's fridge. It's probably not worth resetting the game if you spent your pie on undyne, you can just muscle through without it. Rest of your inventory should be other smaller heal items (Snow pieces are best, then glamburgers but I mostly had crab cakes or whatever you get for free from the abandoned shop next to the hotel). The burnt pan is the best weapon because it boosts your healing but it's not necessary, no other equipment makes any difference in this fight.
Your goal is to make it through all his dialogue and he only speaks a line if you attack. You have to try to deal damage to trigger Sans's dodge and by extension his next line of dialogue, you can't let the bar run off the screen. Try to remember the dialogue order before hespares youbecause at that point you can spend as much time as you want using your shitty heal items to get to full health without having to deal with any attacks and maybe even using a dog residue to try and get a salad or two. Go through the menu fast and just double tap 'fight' since you get no benefit from trying to maximize damage, you save health by not letting your poison run all the way out, andpost-sparing sans can damage you even during the menu.Also it's probably worth trying tospare him once because it's funny as hell.
Every single attack of Sans's is 100% dodge-able, you can go through the entire fight and take zero damage, so the ultimate advice is just git gud and learn the attacks you fucking pussy. Finally,please just reset after you beat the fight, don't go through with the ending. Please.

As far as I'm concerned, pussying out and giving up on the Sans fight is a legitimate canon ending to the game. Think about it, it's so much harder than anything else in the game. Sans is aware of your power of determination, and his own abilities seem to be based on cheesing the fight to cause maximum frustration (his stats are bullshit but by working around the rules of the game he's still a major contender.) His entire endgame is to make you so frustrated that you just STOP TRYING. Give up. And at that stage in the game you are undoubtedly playing the villain, while Sans is the desperate hero struggling to save what little of the world is left from destruction.
It'd be great if the game acknowledged it with extra Sans dialogue, but as far as I'm concerned "Sans Wins" is a viable ending to the game.
