Its basically what you do until later in the game when you finally have some good arts, skills, and equipment to have a comprehensible battle strategy. Early game is terrible in XCX.
And Skell combat is just using your strongest weapon and hoping for cockpit mode because everything that isn't a right-shoulder weapon, superweapon, or something like Phoenix hits like a pea shooter by comparison.

I understand the general idea behind Light, Medium, and Heavy gear; same as Xenoblade. Heavier has more defense but higher weight and gravity. So what's the purpose of BLADE and Skell gear?

The thing I'm having a problem with is not knowing more information about enemies. How am I supposed to prepare for a battle if I don't know what type of damage the enemies deal, or waht their weaknesses are, or if I should use higher accuracy augments or if they have low agility, or their debuff resistance, etc.
Otherwise I have no idea how the deeper mechanics work regardless. I don't know if it's supposed to take 10 minutes for a random battle to finish, but I always do incredibly shitty damage, and without exploiting overdrive, I have no idea what I can do to increase it. Or if some classes are just incapable of dealing good damage with overdrive

Skell gear augments increases stats while you're in a Skell.
Lighter gear also allows for you to apply more upgrades to the augments. Don't know about BLADE though.
I always see segments notated by their FN site in every guide, but the only ones I can find at this point in the game are the data probe ones. How do I know which segment is which for all the others?

I don't have good enough augments to normally maintain Overdrive, but I've just started controlling Irina and realized I could easily pull off infinite overdrive due to Smooth Recovery and Last Stand. Being able to max out the Overdrive count and keep going is the best feeling ever in this game.

With proper placement, you're getting over 250k every 15 minutes, that's 1 million every hour of playtime.
Also just do quests until then. Money is never really a problem.

You probably don't have all that many of the same research probe to build a chain, but if you do there is southern Noctilum and the southern portion of Oblivia where both have adjacent locations with sightseeing spots.
Otherwise just focus on placing wherever there are 2 sightseeing spots.

Only needed set-up is to give her some TP Max augments (thankfully the materials needed are easy to get). It shouldn't be too necessary, but if you have Arts TP Gain equipment use it.
Give her Last Stand, Energy Source, Smooth Recovery, Assault Hammer, Furious Blast and Burst Grenade.
The other 2 arts can be whatever, I use Brainjack and Servant Sacrifice for the mass TP regain and shenanigans when it does works.
Open battles by going into overdrive, using any knife art or assault hammer, then use Furious Blast. Your Overdrive count will shoot up super fast.
From their use the green arts (mainly Smooth Recovery) to keep the Overdrive timer running.
Also keep in mind that on secondary and tertiary cooldowns, Furious Blast gives a lot of TP back per hit.
Burst Grenade is your damage dealer.
If your build has some TP maintenance issues, use Quick Cannon instead.
