Anakin's lore was made AFTER warcraft 3. I love both Starwars and Warcraft equaly, but Anakin is a shit ripoff of Arthas.

Arthas' downfall is being a sick cocky fuck. He wanted to torment Tirion like he had Sylvanas before. He just didn't expect the Light to grant Tirion that last ditch effort and succeed.
If there's anything I hate about his death is that only the players and Tirion were involved when almost every lore figure in the game has a fight to settle with him. Multiple phases with the hero units being present would have been great, and not even that difficult, just have them act like the keeper buffs in Yoggy.
Oh well, Blizzard is the king of wasted opportunities.

That would completely invalidate Mal'Ganis's death in FT which served to underline how the Legion treats it's servants who have fulfilled their purpose. At the moment I can't remember if a single Dread Lord isn't dead as the lore stands currently. The Nathrezim seem to have a lot of folks though, I just think people might be upset if a hitherto unheard of DL showed up and did that.

Warcraft III had gone gold when Episode II came out, also Arthas made a concentrated effort to fix his problem (his kingdom crumbling before him) while Anakin just got mad and whined that things were unfair.

Mal'ganis didn't die because he'd fulfilled his purpose, he died because it was a way for Ner'zhul to dispose of one of his overseers without it being traced back to him. Mal'ganis would want to kill Arthas not only for personal revenge, but also to redeem himself in front of the Legion as a whole by destroying their greatest enemy on Azeroth.
It's a better ending then Tirion fixing everything magically because he's literally holier-than-thou

10+ years of story buildup from first glimpse in WC3 until death in WotLK. It doesn't matter if the story was mediocre, it was the story with the most development in the entirety of Warcraft. It might have been in many ways generic and shitty but it had potential, especially once WoW hit and players were interacting with him in a world where they were literal nobodies.

yeah, as evil as the Legion are, they aren't Bond villains. Dreadlords were extremely valuable field agents and the loss of even one, let alone three (Balnazzar and Detheroc also dying due to Ner'zhul's failure to control the Scourge in Lordaeron), would not be taken lightly. There's a very good reason that Mal'ganis and Balnazzar were both acting as members of the Scarlet Crusade and Varimathras was so heavily involved in the development of the New Plague
