The game actively works against multi classing though with lockouts and the fact it forces you to grind the same old content every time.
I've totally lost faith in the dev team. If the new Alexander is like the current, not fun and an awful difficulty curve, I can't see myself keep playing.

Looks that way. 3.2 might be OK, because it is new Alex, new ilvl bump, so should get people playing. But the odd number patches are going to be horrible it looks like. 2 dungeons, a badly implemented new system, and a primal.
It's painfully obvious a lot of the the team was moved to XV KH3 and VIIr. They are being arrogant and running the game on maintenance mode only.

It's definitely worth experiencing the HW story. The endgame is shit, but really the game caters to people like you who drop in casually more than it does to consistent players.

I wish Heavensward was FF15. It had a great story for a single player jrpg. You, Estinien, Ysale and Alphinaud were a good party. Add Haurchefant and Yshtola.

This is what I do for that reason. It saves money and playing the new content is fun-ish, but it's pretty disheartening to log in to a graveyard FC that was once thriving and do all the content alone.I don't think I have it in me to join any other FCs, I was really attached to my current one
