Permanently Alterable Game Change in OoT

A couple of days ago there was a Zelda thread and an anon mentioned an NPC or object in OoT whose dialogue changed forever if you interacted a certain optional context. You didn't get anything out of doing this, except that small change forever (unlike other NPC's in OoT who just lose lines if you talk to them repeatedly). Similar to the way that in the non-3D version if you hook the Fisherman's Hat, he will add a fourth rule to the signpost "No casting at anyone!"

I'm trying to remember what this was. If it was a character I can tell you it wasn't:
>Bonooru or Pierre
>Baito
>the gate guard of Hyrule Castle
>the dieing soldier
>Grog or Fado
>Guru-Guru
>Bazaar owner

It was something you could do at anytime and required at least some effort to go out of your way to do. It's also not an unquantifiable factor . It's something you can play OoT for years, and realize you didn't do.

WHAT IS IT?

Who is that semen demon and why is she replacing Saria?
>>
>>322100985
You don't recognize her? Think hard about the beginning of the game.
>>
>>322100745
Bump because I am interested about this. The only thing I could think of was a character you listed, Grog, who does talk differently if you're on the same height level as he is. I can't think of anyone else.

maybe it's the old dude (lady?) at the lake hylia lab, when you swim all the way to the bottom of the tank?

it's been a while since i've played, but that's the first thing that came to mind.

That sign already has that 4th rule added to it the first time you come there as adult Link. It's a hint that you can grab the fisherman's hat with the rod. Bonus points if you lose it afterwards; his hat will be gone forever, and even the credits will be changed to accomodate this.

OP here. I'm just going to clear my mind and list off all the things it could be, in order from most to least likely.

>showing Mask of Truth to Zelda, which is only possuble by getting the Bomb Bag, leaving and getting Zora's Sapphire before Goron's Ruby.
>The invisible magic jar above that weird eye statue in the Gerudo Training Grounds. I was under the impression that it never respawned if you got it.
>Saria's message about Mr. Darunia having the Spiritual Stone. I believe you can only get this in the N64/GCN game and only if you get Saria's Song directly after talking to Zelda.
>Nabooru being mentioned by the gossip stone in the desert as haunting the wasteland. This is likely a remnant of a time when you could wear the Mask as an adult, because it makes no sense for you to be able to read it as a child, unless you do so before stepping into the Spirit Temple and meeting her.
>Giant's Knife. There's unused text that is supposed to display if you own it when you complete the Biggoron's Sword quest, that says you "You traded the Giant's Knife..."
>Nayru's Love being usable on Dark Link, or using the Hover Boots to walk across the River of Sand before the Longshot by sequence-breaking.

>showing Mask of Truth to Zelda, which is only possuble by getting the Bomb Bag, leaving and getting Zora's Sapphire before Goron's Ruby.
Actually you can't get that mask before getting the Master Sword. The running man won't appear until you beat the Water Temple.
>>
>>322108632
Let's just say Fado has a really big underground following.

I would show you, but I'm afraid that someone will tip him off into knowing that his stuff isn't password-locked.

Son. I happen to know for a fact that the Running Man spawns the moment you have the Zora's Sapphire in your possession.

He may not spawn the day/night that Zelda and Impa escape, but every time you're in the field after that, you can bet your jimmies he's there.
>>
>>322110078
Other way around. You can only get it as child link

Don't got more. That's it. Maybe if I scrape the barrel...

>Anju's roommate that looks like Brock says that Impa left to the temple in the graveyard after the "humongous monster," but interestingly I'm not sure if he does this before the attack on the village too. The most important thing about this is he confirms Impa is around during the 7 years protecting the village, and doesn't mention the well, implying the monster is from the Shadow Temple and was sealed in the well by Impa. I know for certain he's one of the more talkative characters you only hear once, since his dialogue shortens after the first times you talk to him as a kid/adult.
>The gate guard mentioned in the OP that you can pay 10 rupees off to open the gate is glitched during the first cycle of the game. If you bolt into town on day 1 or night 1 (as the bridge goes up), he will have the same dialogue as the very first guard in Castle Town. He will also not let you pass unless you get caught first, and leave, and come back. Normally, if you talk to him he's chatty and if you talk to him again after getting Malon's Egg (or just twice after you get the egg), he will accept your bribe.
>Malon was supposed to give you free milk when you met her and supposed to be able to sell you more for 30 rupees if you talked to her while Ingo ran the ranch. This was removed.
>In all but the 3DS version, a flag will trigger when you speak to Fado during the Biggoron's Quest that will prevent you from earning the prize from the Forest Stage for wearing the Mask of Truth (a Deku Nut upgrade).
>the people who reviewed the game for Nintendo Power played a prerelease version of OoT. You can tell this, because there is no heart piece on top of the shop in the final game.
>>
>>322109060
I thought N64 games ran at 640x480i (640x240p)
>>
>>322111642
Oh yeah.
>In the N64/GCN if you talk to Mido, and then talk to Saria she will look shocked, but tell you that Mido is right and you should be equipped. She'll then give you the hint telling you the sword is hidden somewhere in the forest. However, you have to do this in that order to get this hint. If you get the shield or sword first you will miss it forever. This was fixed in the 3DS version where she will always say this if you talk to her.
>the spirally things that fly around Kokiri Forest and Lost Woods were meant to help you see wind back when that was a feature in OoT.
>Fado was not the girl who stood on that block at first, but one of the twins.
>When Navi flies through the forest at the beginning of the game, it loads a completely different state. Observable differences: One of the twins (the nearest to Fado) has her hands raised as if cupping her heart, a signpost is in front of the playground that isn't there again, there is a Kokiri boy nodding inside the playground as if speaking to his fairy.
>There is a jar inside Link's house that doesn't spawn when you start the game. However if you go back inside it will suddenly be there.
>Based on the dialogue of the Gossip Stone behind the Deku Tree about a Kokiri boy who left the forest being alive, the introduction is not a monologue for the player, but for the silent stone listener, because his time is short, to chronicle what he knows. This stone can only be reached as adult Link unless you bomb-hop/bomb-boost over his roots as child Link to read it. This again, is evidence of when Adult Link could wear the Mask of Truth.

>>322112824
The Lens of Truth was originally known as the Eyeglasses of Truth. This is why the Gossip Stone for the Treasure Chest Shop says no glasses are allowed. While they didn't survive the overhaul of the data in the final game, there have been hints about it since that give you an idea of what it looked like.
>In TWW, a Sheikah relic known as the Hero's Charm appears.
>However, the glasses were once the item of the Light Temple. This is why the Light Barrier tricks you at the end.
>The item used to be white. This is known because the Hero's Charm in TWW is gold to reflect the color of the final Light Medallion.
>The Mask of Truth is what the glasses ultimately were repurposed into, when the Lens of Truth was created instead and masks were decided to be a kid only feature.
>Amusingly, though the two items have been separated for the better part of 17 years, the Mask of Truth ultimately went on to relive its original purpose in MM3D. Because there is no Stone of Agony in MM, and the game has no rumble like the N64 did, the Mask of Truth can be used to find hidden grottoes in the game.

Here's another well known thing: the Forest Temple and Water Temple were originally the Wind Temple and Ice Temple. The medallions have wind and ice themed icons on them, the Ganon's Castle sections for them are wind and ice themed, and the filenames for those temples in the 3DS version are all named wind and ice.
Another thing is that the temple medallions were originally items. See this video at the 5 second mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0bOGi-tKGQ
Instead of three magic arrows and three spells, there were six magic arrows that all came from the medallions. The final game still has three unused entries in the damage tables for those removed arrow types.

And lastly, here's a post from 1998 from someone who played OoT at a consumer demo show. Interesting things to note are that Link could once jump on command and the ocarina was a context sensitive action used at the unused ocarina pedestals (pictured).
