Legend of Mana is a fucking big one for me. Too bad player 2 gets shafted a little by having to play as an ever changing sidekick and the game is a bit too easy (except for maybe one or two boss fights) but it's the hottest shit regardless. Highly, highly recommended.
Secret of Mana is excellent too.
not really obscure but the goemon series is usually neglected in the west cause konami sucks dick. Goemon's Great Adventure for N64 is an awesome game for 2 players.
