To me if it's an RPG, the option to be female should be available, because it's a fucking ROLEPLAYING game. Doesn't matter if I'm female or male, it's always nice to be able to play as anything I want.
But when it comes to fucking linear adventure games that focus on a protagonist, when that protagonist is female, the devs feel the need to put sparkles everywhere.
