Blacklist was a decent game but turned out to be yet another ubisoft action/stealth hybrid , just like far cry, watch dogs, assassin's creed and most likely ghost recon wildlands
>>

nah. the engine is ancient now.

It really wasn't, it was pure fucking dogshit.

Nah, it was competent enough. It's just that it was like a 5/10 whereas CT was like a 9/10.

What about removal of good level design, good dialogue, ability to interrogare, little hidden details and secrets while replacing all that with digusting hollywood tropes and the usual AAA lifeless assassins creed treatment?
>>
The controls drive me crazy though. Pressing space, I want to jump. Instead, the view zooms in.

Those games won't come back man
>>
>>322039016
it really doesn't, cryengine 1 still has graphical features that a lot of modern games don't
>>
>>322039324
I've *seriously* been considering that one for months now but I can never convince myself to jump ship and make the purchase. Beautiful visuals aside, what do you think about it? Love me some atmosphere in my games.

>it really doesn't,
Yea it does. It has no fucking tessellation for a start, just look at that fucking rock there. Also, textures are dog shit nowadays.

>cryengine 1 still has graphical features that a lot of modern games don't
Such as? The lack of DX11 features? Nice feature.

Installing this game for the first time thanks to you. Always wanted to play it but never got around to it for some reason.

What should I expect?

I played the second one back when they had a free weekend, but I didn't like it as much. Hopefully it'll improve before it comes out of early access.
>>
>>322039692
It's a shitty walking simulator with the occasional "puzzle" where you have to piece together the order of a cutscene.
The story is pretty bad too.
Visuals are all it has, but even then you realise it's all baked and non-dynamic, so it loses even there.
>>
>>322039947
Decent FPS with horror elements tacked on.

>>
>>322040017
Tripwire are shit now, it won't improve, just look at RO2.
>>
>>322039947
Impressive enemy AI. Only thing that continues to WOW me about this game. Still holds up pretty well.
>>
>>322040020
Shame. I've been looking at other reviews but this hurts a bit. Puzzles for sake of having puzzles are something I sure as fuck don't miss in my adventure games. Never understood that being a staple of the genre.
>>
>>322039947
OP here
Depends on what you enjoy, I might be the only one who really finds it fun, but I've replayed it like a dozen times and it's still enjoyable as hell to me.
>>
>>322040156
OP here, would also like to highlight that the AI is remarkable

>Beautiful visuals aside, what do you think about it?
It's a walking simulator, good atmosphere indeed, the story/mystery is explained through enigmas that consist mostly in finding shit > putting it in its place > chronological reconstruction of what happened > go elsewhere, but there are quite a few exceptions. You spend some time figuring out how some puzzles have to work in the first place before solving them.
I really can't tell you if you'll like it, I know I did. It also lasts about 5 hours and I find it really hard to think it can last more than 7.

>tessellation
almost no games use tessellation though, it's still underutilized. wouldn't have made that rock look better since it's not a high poly model in the first place
crysis was the first game to have per-object motion blur in 2007 and most games today STILL don't have it
>>
>>322039947
Keep in mind it's psychological horror, and though its techniques at spooking you are mostly cliche, it has a LOT of details that are paid an impressive amount of attention to.
>>
>>322039947
Ridiculously genuine AI. Nice gunplay. Boring as fuck environments. Boring as fuck story. The ability to do MOTHER. FUCKING. BICYCLE KICKS. AND ROUNDHOUSE KICKS.

great weapons, great AI, great gunfights
boring enviroment, endless repetetive places. entire game is nothing but copy pasted rooms.
>>

B-B-B-BUT EXPLOSIONS A-AND

The engine is pretty sick too.
>>
>>322041210
>a LOT of details that are paid an impressive amount of attention to.
Other than great AI and some optional keep-your-eye-out spooks, what?

I personally enjoyed the Perseus Mandate expansion the most because the influx of those freaky fucking naked remnants.
>>
>>322039947
Expect satanic black magic programmed AI to fuck your shit up, no other game today comes close
>>
>>322041532
I can hardly insult it. Running through factory and office mazes never got boring thanks to the lighting and neat detail on environment damage.
>>
>>322041541
Maybe not a LOT, but there's all kind of effects like the shaking spoopy lights when grenades are thrown and the disturbing noises

The game is most enjoyable on high volume but, once again, I've played the game about a dozen times, and I've noticed things I hadn't noticed before that scared the hell out of me years later.
>>
Why did they add horror to it, really made the game worse than it should have been

>le spooky dream ghost xDDD
>>
>>322039947
God-tier AI, fun physics, meh story, jump scares, Blood clouds
>>

Awww man stop it I'll have to install again. The game has super boring enviroments, simple story and it's still super memorable by gameplay alone. The spooks are legit good as well, and it's pretty creepy overall.

You unbind the slo-mo key?
You done that with the expansions?
>>
>>322043497
Came here to post this. I don't know if it's the nostalgia glasses, but this will literally never look bad or not be fun to play. Meanwhile HoMM5 has aged like shit.
>>
>>322048059
Hell no, I use the slow-mo a ton, but I mean the atmosphere even seems more intense, and playing the whole game through on high volume is a sick experience regardless of difficulty.

You can literally port Crysis on DX11 just as they did with Gothic 2.
>>
>>322039692
Only slightly more involved than games like Dear Esther. There's a few puzzles, but the visuals are really all the game has going for it.
>>
>>322048059
I played Extreme without Slo-mo on the main game without much trouble, but never played the expansions. Are they worth playing?
>>
>>322037007

this
thief 1 and 2 are still the greatest stealth games ever
>>
>>322049259
I liked them, but they're not canon anymore ever since Fear 2, and Perseus Mandate might as well be it's own game considering how far-removed from the storyline it is
