What kind of monitor do you use?
I'm building my first PC and wondering if it's worth going all out for a ROG Swift 1440p 144hz
Anyone here have experience with one?
>>322027994
Just get a 120hz
The difference between 144hz and 120hz is negligible
rule of the thumb is that if there's "gaming" in its name it's a bad choice
>>322027994
Don't have a ROG, but I can say 1440 @ 144Hz is pretty amazing. I was going to get the monitor you mentioned, but alot of people said the build quality was hit or miss.

Also check out TFTCentral if you haven't heard of it.

Since most games are 60fps, I would reccomend getting a 120 OVER a 144.
Since 120 is an exact duplicate of 60.
>>322029747
But 60 goes into 144 2.4 times
>>322029917
Not an exact duplicate, so worse.
>>322030056
It's a rational number so....
Is it worth it buying a bigger monitor if I can just downsample any resolution I want?
>>322030161
Sitting farther away is better for your eyes.
>>322030113
Oh you're trolling
>>322030056
there's literally no difference
wouldn't say if it was 2.39999... times where it'd get weird

I use a meme ultrawide setup at 3440x1440. I don't have freesync, so I overclock it to 80Hz.
I have an XB270HU which is all that and IPS
Honestly 1440p is not worth it. The rest is perfect, but going up in resolution sucks because my 980TI doesn't feel as powerful as it should
>>322030679
1080p is shit
Only invest in one if you're going to spend alot of time with a game or two (specifically FPS games), otherwise you can make due with a 60hz monitor with a good response time.
>>322030805
he'll spend about 100% looking at the monitor. How is that not an effecient purchase?

How is that Steam©™ controller?

looking at upgrading at the moment and stuck between running this at 2k

or getting a 4k monitor, i won't be able to run it at 4k yet but perhaps in the future with some upgrades i will and until then run it in 2k?
The problem is the highest refresh rate you can get on a 4k is 60. How important do you think 60+ framerates are going to be going forward? Oh and obviously the 4k wouldn't be widescreen

>>322031278
4k and 1440p and literally impossible to tell apart on a monitor, maybe on a 70 inch tv, but on a 2 something inch monitor, 1440p is the sweet spot of resolution
FreeSync or G-Sync?
>>322027994
If you're going to shell out for a 1440p 144hz monitor, you'd be better off paying extra and getting the Acer XB270HU. It has the same features as the Swift but with an IPS panel so it doesn't look like shit.
G-Sync and Freesync aren't memes. This shit runs so motherfucking smooth it's unbelievable, you have to see it to understand.
>>322031631
i'd like to believe you
sadly i cant find a shop or anything that has a 2k monitor i can mess around on on display.
my brother has a 4k monitor but dosen't play games, but it looks glorious when he's browsing and stuff.
i guess i'll go 2k and wait for the big 8k meme for upgrades. I'll save up for one of these stupid powerful pascal cards in the meantime
>>322027994
using benq xl2720
its great, slightly faster response than my old monitor (evo monitor, asus 236h) and much higher refresh rate, which is noticeable.
Does it improve the gameplay experience? Meh.
Does everything look better? Definitely.
>tfw considering spending £700 on a PG279Q
How future proof is this monitor
It's 1440p
165hz
IPS
G sync
etc
>>322033302
One day there will be 4k or 8k 240Hz monitors or some shit like that. But those days are far off. So that one is pretty future proof.
>>322033608

Not better than 360 controller at being a 360 controller. I hate the shoulder bumpers. Triggers are all right. I hate how cheap it feels in my hands.
