Since Konami isn't going to make more Silent Hill (Those cunts, they had one job, ONE FUCKING JOB), is there any game that sort of resembles Silent Hill or 2, that would get my SH fix? Be it narrative or other asthetics?
Other than Resident Evil, of course.
>>
And I meant games, not Pachinko machines.
>>
>>321973212
The craftsmanship that made possible Silent Hill 2 is already a lost art, I just finished Silent Hill 2 5 minutes ago once again just like I do every 2 or 3 years and there is no other game that bring such emotions as this one.

absolutely disgusting

>>321974937
I cant stand the grain filter either.
>>
Silent Hill 3 is a lot like silent Hill 1 and 2. Outside of that, there's Silent Hill 4, but it does some weird stuff. Outside of that, maybe the penumbra games?
>>
Maybe Rule of Rose? Though still not as skin-tingly scary or with as deep a story, but it's the closest you'll get as far as I know.
>>
Gonna play this game.
Should i play SH1 first?
Should I do PS2 emulation or torrent the PC version?
>>
>>321973212
Lone Survivor. Only played an hour of it years ago, but it had an indie Silent Hill-esque wannabe feel to it.
>>
>>321975101
How? OPs pic looks way too "clean" IMO. Whenever I try to play the PC version it feels too clean so I end up emulating the PS2 version. PC version + No grain filter is gross.
>>
>>321973212
i heard something about the siren games, seem cool, but i havent played them.
>>
>>321975260
God, I couldn't play that game. I thought "ah fuck it, it's just a lolindie pixel game, how scary could it be?" Holy shit, was I wrong.
>>
>>321975227
SH1 and 2 aren't plot related, so it doesn't really matter which one you play first.

The PC version of SH2 is fine as long as you switch your CPU to single core mode. Some autists on /v/ complain that the fog doesn't look as good as in the PS2 version but it looks fine to me. Certainly looks better than the fucking HD version on PS3.
>>
>>321975227
I would play sh2 first then sh3 then go back to 1 if you want more sh. play the pc version of all.
>>
>>321975227
If you can stand the extremely dated graphics and gameplay dynamics of SH1, then start with it.
If you cant then go ahead and play SH2, PC version is easy to get and runs great, just remember to play the game with only one core enabled also the story is pretty much apart from the first one and it is one of the best in the entire gaming history.
>>
>>321975227
Both games are great.
I dont remember any problems with PC version of SH2 too so you can go with that.

Cry of fear has a silent hill feel to it. Although don't expect it to be exactly like silent hill. It's free on steam.

devon pls go

>>321975415
Siren 1 and 2 on PS2 are really great, but they're hard as fuck. Blood Curse on PS3 is pretty good as far as the atmosphere goes, but unfortunately it's way too fucking easy. Once you get a hold of a weapon you can just YOLO your way through the level.
>>
>>321975316
My next play through will be with the ps2 version to test it!
>>
>>321975502
this is wrong, SH3 revisits a lot of SH1 areas and you need to have played SH1 to understand the plot as its a direct continuation some years down the line

You were in my thread yesterday you Australian faggot. The fog in the PS2 version is objectively better.
>>
>>321975807
While that's true its just the more pixely visuals that make it spook. Either way, I prefer PS2, but I wouldn't say that PC is worse. Also PC looks HD as FUCK compared to ps2 (not necessarily a good thing), though the combat on pc is different I never managed to get those casual sideways swings like on ps2

That Karamari Hospital DLC for Spooky's House of Jumpscares.

Pathologic maybe?

Was going to say this, since it's a spooky game in a low-visibility town with a great story and occasionally similar music. It has a lot of differences as well though
>even less jump scares than SH (there are absolutely none)
>longer than SH (70+ hours)
>less combat, more survival
>lots of talking to NPCs
>first-person
>a lot more walking through town

Yeah, somebody else already mentioned, but Icepick Lodge (Pathologic, The Void) are about as close to Silent Hills on a narrative and thematic levels, though definitely not mechanically.

>>321977843
it's meh
expect framerate drops in the more foggy areas like the amusement park

LIMBO
>>
ALRIGHT CRY OF FEAR IT IS!
>>
>>321975217
Rule of Rose? That's an atlus game right?

Can anybody tell me how good the emulation is?
>>
>>321979096
not that poster but I just finished it last week on pcsx2, just have to enable hardware mode for fmvs and it's fine. not too much like silent hill though. great story and cutscenes with shit tier gameplay.
>>
>>321979234
Ok, thanks!

These

iirc, didn't some of the same people work on both games?
>>

Play Fatal Frame and Haunting Grounds.
>>
>>321978681
Limbo is more like Another World, Flashback or Heart of Darkness, you're better off playing those games.

There really is nothing else like it except perhaps one series. The Siren games. Supposedly they were made by some of the same people. I have heard some anons say that these games are similar to SH games. Problem is I never played the Siren games myself.
>>
>>321975227
Play them in release order! Just better that way.

Get the PC ports, much easier:

SH2 DDL:

SH2 torrent:

SH3 DDL:

SH3 torrent:

SH4 torrent: Kickass torrents

And in case someone's once again new to this PC gaming stuff: Use a program like DaemonTools Lite to mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

>>321977843
Very well, since it's a 2003 DX8 game.

>>321978208
this is bullshit. Unless you use 4k x 4k rendering resolution or something.
>>
>>321981321
I have personally played them sll, only beaten the 3rd one. They do share similarities, but are also quite different.

Unfortunately the biggest issue of the Siren games are their clunky and very restricted gameplay. I am personally not a fan of the TV series style episodic design either. The ending of the 3rd game was also just laughably bad, as in pure "America, fuck yeah!"
>>
>juice in the garbage chute
>you can miss some important items
>coin puzzle
>wax doll/horseshoe/lighter combo
>trapped in a round room not knowing what the hell to do
>hair/hook combo over the drain

This game would never ever be released in the modern market.
>>
there are no games like Silent Hill 2, everything else is pretty much babby shit in comparison
>>
>>321979497
>>321981321
Keiichiro Toyama, the creator of the Silent Hill series, left Konami after directing Silent Hill 1. He was hired by Japan Studio and created the Siren series, and has directed each one since.

So yes. That's the closest you'll get.
>>
Siren 1 is pretty good, but Siren 2 is fucking great. Great characters, great storylines, fucking insane level design.
>>
>>321984627
Did he do Gravity Rush too or it's another guy?
>>
>>321985962
Same guy.

Gravity Rush is cool and everything but I wish they'd get back to Siren already.
>>
>>321984093
>juice in the garbage chute
That was the only part where I had to use a guide. I was stuck on it for ages and I was sure I was missing some item.
But no, it was the goddamn juice. I was mad as fuck when I found out. 10/10 game otherwise.
>>
>>321984802
the problem with siren is its skirmish-like construction.

>horror game divided into missions, literally named missions
