Could Kingdom Come replace the elder scrolls as the top open world action/rpg/sandbox hybrid?
I like what they aim to do with the NPC AI to create a proper dynamic, living world. skyrims NPCs were utterly robotic, never doing anything unpredictable. I at least hope its good enough to give TES some serious competition going forward, it's never really had any over the years (witcher really isn't the same kind of game).

At the very least this game looks like it'll have worthwhile melee combat and that's something I never see happening in a TES game.

As much as I want these games to succeed they rarely do because they rely on a dedicated community to keep it alive. I don't see people sticking with one game constantly when there's a constant flood of new titles that are riffing on the same idea.
Last dedicated "player run content" group I played with were the Shadowclan Orcs during Ultima Online. Even then keeping a community alive was difficult cuz shit like EQ, DAoC, Shadowbane, and others came out.
I admire the effort, but these kinds of games and ideas often end with everyone moving on to a different game in a couple months.

Movement feels pretty good. Not fantastic, but pretty good.
Lockpicking is a minigame. Feels similar to the fallout 3 lockpicking minigame.
The thing that really stands out to me so far is the alchemy system. You pick all the herbs and flowers yourself, Witcher style. Then you have to find an alchemy station and recipe book. You have to follow the steps listed in the book to produce the desired outcome.
For instance, you have to fill the cauldron with water, place 2 handfuls of marigold and 1 handful of nettle, then allow it to simmer for 2 turns of the hourglass at the station. Be sure not to boil it (which I assume means don't use the bellows to stoke the fire). Then collect the result of your efforts.
I'm sure some people wont like the effort and time it takes to make potions and salves, but I really enjoy it.

I can really only compare it to Mount & Blade, but locked to a single opponent. Move your mouse around your opponent to change the king of swing you do. You can also parry by pressing block just as the opponent strikes, allowing for a counter attack. Dodging also works the same way. You can counter attack after a successful dodge.
There's also combos where you can break an opponents defense by doing a combination of strikes. I found these fairly difficult to pull off with the mouse swing system, but there was 1 I could do consistantly.
I'm uncertain if you can switch opponents, as I was only practicing against a single enemy. But I'm sure you can.

Crossbows were one of the weapons that didn't require any training, they were literally the easiest and deadliest weapons at the time. Peasants could use them, acquisition is a different thing.

The book next to the alchemy station lists the properties of herbs. I haven't tried just doing my own thing with it yet, but the book says certain things may happen if you just go wild.
For instance, it says not to mix anything with nettle unless you're told to do so. Otherwise it may cause "the chills". So I suppose it's very easy to accidentally poison yourself through experimentation.
