No it's not, it's pretty great for the game itself. Are there deeper combat systems like DMC/Beyonetta? sure but their level design doesn't play as much of a role as DaS, intricate, claustrophobic levels go well with simple combat. It's not perfect, you can turtle too much sometimes but overall it's a million miles from awful.
