Right after father gasgoine you go into the cathedral ward, if you leave it to the left then take a right up those stairs you get a giant bird fucker with an axe. What's the best way to kill that asshole? I tried to stick behind him, but the stairs are pretty narrow and he can 360 sweep me dead.
All the Souls games and Bloodborne are filled with bugs and bad designed mechanics.
Enemies stuck in the stairs, enemies walking into the wall and other things.

Same here honestly. I got Ludwig to ~5% health my first time fighting him and then killed him on try 2 after hearing so many people having issues. Maria and Laurence both took me two tries as well.
I think I died upwards of 20 times on Orphan. I don't know what the fuck it was about him, but I think he gave me more issues than any other boss in BB or Souls games. That second phase intimidated the hell out of me.

This is my first ever souls title, the only trouble I have with the game is finding out what to do next because the game isn't babying me. Combat is simple.

I just started Old Hunters, and god damn was it hard. I thought that first guy I ran into was a miniboss or something. Took like 3 lives and most of my vials to kill him. Then I ran into another one like 20 seconds later.
I eventualyl just started running past everything to grab what I could. Got the full old hunter set and the chain club weapon.
I found flaming cleric beast but for some reason he didn't wake up to attack me. I just grabbed the locket off his hand and then left when he didn't wake up.
But yeah, I guess Im gonna have to come back later. I had just beaten amelia so Im pretty sure Im underleveled, though I ran into one guy who helped me beat BSB who Im pretty sure had the armor of the person on the dlc cover. Though he was just using the cane and sawblade.

you can easily backstab him after he jumps over you. The main key is to learn how to doge his attacks and stay close to him though. Try to delay his 2nd phase transformation as long as possible, use old hunter's bone once he grew out his wings.
Just can't get into the game. Bought it 10 months ago, played for 6 hours, now just collecting dust. I find the game pretty boring and just couldn't get into it. Should I give it another shot? I'd rather play any souls game than this. It's just lacking what made those games great.
