ITT: Bad bosses/levels in otherwise good games
>>321838857
git gud
>>321838946
I can beat the whole game with 1 or 2 continues. It's not a problem of dying, it's a problem of it being tedious. It moves faster than the player, it only has one tiny point where you can damage it, and its attack patterns force you to waste even more time dodging overly long attacks.
They give you the Chaser for so many other bosses/sections, I can't believe they didn't have POWs drop them on this one.
>>321838857
I just beat that thing today. Good god was it annoying.
Behold it's amazing single attack that takes 20 seconds to actually do.
>>321838857
I'll never understand what that boss is supposed to even be.
it is indeed the dumbest boss in that entire game.
even the Final boss is more fair.
too bad it was the last really good Metal Slug, damn shame... I guess Mission Is Over.
>>321839780
MISSION ALL OVER
>>321839780
We haven't gotten a Metal Slug since 2009.
I'd argue that Kirby Triple Deluxe has the worst-designed bosses in the entire series (except for its final bosses), because all of them involve just a lot of standing around, lazily dodging attacks, and waiting for that one tiny moment where you can get in one little hit and the whole process starts over again.
I don't have time or patience to post all of them, so here's a particularly heinous example: Pyribbit (both regular and EX forms apply).
>>321839703
some sort of mayan/aztec thing? we're in the same boat anon
>>321840327
The mini-bosses were more enjoyable to fight honestly.
>>321840327
...except you don't have to wait to hit them, they're always vulnerable unless they're transitioning phases. triple deluxe had terrible bosses but if anything their flaw was they were too easy. just did arena and stomped him flat in 20 seconds
Unlocking The Kid in Super Meat Boy.
The stage gives a glaring, unquestionable disadvantage to keyboard users.
Fuck you, dev.
>>321840957
>using a keyboard
>for a platformer
i mean if you want the handicap sure but its way comfier with a pad
>>321841239
The bullshit they pulled has nothing to do with comfort, though.
They programmed it so you'd be objectively disadvantaged.
>>321839523
>responding to bait
>>321839684
This guy is a blemish in a good game. Though how big of a blemish depends on you.
>>321841879
Yes, using an inferior control scheme is an objective disadvantage. Keenly observed
>>321841879
youre saying that it was not unintentional that a difficult platformer would be more difficult with a gimped input device? or that they proactively made it more difficult for keyboard users by doing something?
Obligatory
>>321840957
What did they do to fuck over keyboard users?
>>321842667
I hate this guy. The final boss in a sonic game should not be boring. Especially as boring as this.
"Extreme" missions where you fight the male Skulls in MGSV.
Artificial difficulty that can only be negated with D-Walker.
this boss
>>321838857
Not bad, just a snorefest
Inb4 Bed of Chaos. I actually really appreciate that fight for how strange and different it is. Made me think.
>>321843084
They didn't do anything, it's just that keyboards are inherently bad for platformers because of the lack of input sensitivity. That anon is just being retarded.
>>321838857
>Getting lucky enough to have him not use his shitty golden attack
feels so good.
>>321843338
What is that supposed to be?
>>321843974
Doesn't look that bad from this webm. I'm guessing the golden attack is where the bullshit comes in?
>>321844443
Yep, it's like the red projectiles he does except they're all over the place.
>>321844443
It's basically the red attack but continuously and with no fucking pattern whatsoever. It's pretty bad.
>>321843338
>>321844328
Leviathan's guts from dmc 3. The boss is easy af but boring.
>>321844443
The webm killed him just as he summoned the homing wolves too.
>>321844443
I managed to keep a shotgun with me when I reached the boss fight by avoiding every other weapon pick-up.
If you don't have a flame-shot or a shotgun the battle drags out for a lot longer and becomes way worst
>>321838857
>bad bosses in an otherwise good game: the game
DXHR
>>321845215
I had no idea this boss gets so easy as a zombie. I got to remember that next time I play through Metal Slug 3.
>>321844618
That attack is easy as fuck to dodge.
>>321845752
Not him but today was the first time I played this game and that attack drove me crazy. Went in completely blind.
>>321844609
I liked the leviathan level and thought that the boss was an interesting concept though everyone else seems to think it's one of the worst parts of DMC3
>>321845523
I absolutely love how shit the zombie mode is, but that blood vomit stream is so OP it's almost worth it
>>321838857
Not sure if it's necessarily bad level/enemy design, but in Bloodborne I just encountered unseen village I think after killing amygdalla and the Rom.
Constant enemy response from the freaking bell ringing bitches, was easily the most frustrating thing I came across in the game so far.
The most boring, drawn out fight fucking ever
AND THEY USE IT 3 TIMES
>>321845523
it's kind of tricky at first. Most people who do that trick vomit once, go for the antidote, and then spam grenades. That's how I did it.
But if you manage to stay a zombie you don't have to deal with the boss's second phase which isn't AS annoying but it still feels so satisfying puking on it four times instead of dealing with it's monoliths.
>>321845985
What a major fucking trade off if you ask me.
>>321840802
Did you even play the game, faggot?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjNBq1Dqjp8
>>321846805
He spends most of the fucking fight in the background, so annoying.
>mfw
>>321846261
>kind of
>>321846261
Isn't that webm from that one "/v/ plays Metal Slug" thread?
What happened to those, anyways? Guy said he'd do mission 3(?) tomorrow, then just dropped off the face of the earth.
>>321838857
the first three halo games were pretty good
and then you get to the flood levels
>>321842667
"what the fuck am I supposed to be doing" the bossfight
>>321843409
>Fighting any boss in SMT that 100% nulls/reflects all physical attacks
Pretty much an instant restart and respec my demons to get through it.
>>321843974
Not to take away from this player, just wonder what difficult setting is this on.
When I was a kid me and my friends gathered ar the local drugstore (I'm from mexico) to compete in long ass sessions to see how far we could get by just one coin, that includes getting everything and using melee attacks as much as possible.
>>321845215
This guys were not that bad if you get there as a zombie and save up the medicine from the scientists that spawn there, it takes a couple zombie granades, then you take the medicine and spam granades on the 1 or 2 left.
We used to give up whenever we were killed, miss a POW or when the hidden gems wouldn't give you 30k or 50k.
Still love this game.
>>321847328
I did mission 3. and 4 too.
>oh fuck turns out I'm an incredibly easy boss
>to prevent you from removing all of my health with one demon dodge shit, I'm going to jump away and initiate a cutscene after every 1/10th of my health is depleted
>also you can only beat me by using the devil trigger
oh wait you said good games
>>321847878
Forgot to mention, we used to ask the clerk to set it to lvl 8 (the highest difficulty), this fucking boss was incredibly fucking hard to kill without loosing all your shit.
>>321847885
Oh.
I must've missed them.
Got any archive links to them or anything?
>>321847878
Level 4
>>321847885
>Metal slug games will never be good again
they stopped being fun after 3
>>321848079

and
https://boards.fireden.net/v/thread/320563984/
>>321848214
And some say it's the hardest one.
>>321848214
Even with all the recycled assets and, pointless new mechanics I still had fun with 4. I think it was a few solid levels. After that I agree, they're just not as fun.
>>321848387
Awesome, thanks.
Hope you do something like it again in the future.
>>321838857
That boss wouldn't bother me except for one thing. Playing co-op against it renders that boss fight completely retarded because all of the patterns go straight out the window and you never know which player the projectile is traveling towards. Playing solo against it is so much easier it isn't funny.
I FUCKING HATE HUNGRY GLUTTONS SO MUCH GODDAMN
>>321848409
metal slug 4 despite being the most recycled one graphically is really fun in level design and bosses and also has an amazing soundtrack.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lajf-gKzRuE
metal slug 5 starts okay (first 3 stages) then it gets bad and uncreative after that
metal slug 6 despite trying new things is just not fun to play and overall frustrating.
metal slug 7 is just blergh.
>>321848214
I thought 5 was pretty solid honestly. Had some kickass vehicles too.
Except the last boss. Fuck that.
The Yoshi's Island castle stage that snuck its way into Tropical Freeze, and also happens to be underwater.
>>321848387
The Yeti part of level 2 freaked me out when you backtrack and suddenly there's incredibly gorey yeti corpses strewn around
Especially considering when you kill them yourself, they just kind of disappear
FUCK
>>321848831
The worst part about MS5 is probably how rushed it was, leaving behind all those unused assets, and fucking demon out of nowhere as the final boss
4 and 5's soundtracks were bitchin though
>>321848906
>completely new terrorist group for some reason
>Bosses are pretty boring
>suddenly giant space demon out of nowhere
honestly if you're going to go crazy and wacky in any way you have to commit to it like Metal slug 3
>>321848981
It's pretty short once you know what you're doing, but the first time around is just boring. Constant loading screens doesn't help. At least it has Aquatic Ambience.
>>321849079
>purple blood
What is this, the German version?
>>321848831
Mah Nigga
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5g8SqUTOC0
I enjoyed most of 4, the last boss also has a similar attack to OP, lazers everywhere and it isn't even clear where to stand. Despite all the laziness surrounding it I think it wasn't therrible.
5 has a couple of interesting fights, but overall it's just uninspired.
>>321849371
I just think the sasquatches have purple blood. The zombie blood beams are still red
>>321849079
>Not playing original red-blooded version
No dungeon comes close to Air's Rock in difficulty, especially surprising since it shows up in the first third of the game. It's definitely the "that part" of the game, the reason you don't replay it more often.
>>321849464
Fuck that boss man, its long boring and the fucking turret flashes can give some poor kid seizures.
>>321847501
343 Guilty Spark, Sacred Icon, and The Covenant are the best levels in their respective games though
As for answering the OP its this asshole with his Eternal Zero OTK bullshit
>>321848831
>is really fun in level design
That's because the level design is lazily recycled like everything else in the game.
>>321849593
nevermind, it turns out it was censored? Still looks creepier with the purple lbood.
>>321849682
Digital Devil Saga 2 final boss, bitch
Metal Gear Rising fighting two G.R.A.D.s at the same time in a room of explosives.
>>321849682
>sacred icon
please elaborate on your opinion
Nightmare was a pain in the ass.
>>321849660
Air's Rock takes longer to finish than a significant portion of video games that get released today.
>>321848831
Interesting.
Almost put down the game due to how underwhelming this memer was. what a tedious, challenge-free fight.
>>321850079
The bat guy is worse. At least Fukt only lasts 20 seconds until one of you dies.
>>321848214
Yeah for the most part they're pretty lame.
There's some cool parts like being able to ride Rootmars in 6, fighting Allen mech-to-mech in 7 and XX, the final boss in 5 being a metal-as-hell winged demon, turning into a monkey in 4... And even getting to play as the ikari warriors. But the new games miss out on the style and intent of the original games.
>"Gameplay will be sometimes comical, but also challenging at important points and always cool to look at and play!"
4-XX just don't seem to try as much with the settings, situations, and bosses not being as cool looking or memorable and shit the bed with the level design too.
3's first boss was a crab with a giant tank attached to it crawling towards you.
X's second boss was a giant fucking cobra-like THING that's eating it's way up through this tall as fuck toward to get you
1... Well I suppose none of them were that memorable but the game got an A+ in presentation and was the first of it's kind. I remember the two tanks boss I suppose.
Anyway point is no one's sure how to do things right at this point.
>>321848594
thanks. I dunno if I actually will. It seems like a cool format that'll get anons itching to play the game themselves.
>>321848831
the only thing I think 6 and 7 is good for is that they added gameplay differences between the different characters.
But then again those gameplay differences were kind of garbage and so were the games
Marco: Stronger handgun
Eri: Starts with 20 grenades and gets 20 grenades on pickups
Flo: Gets more ammo from pickups, starts with a Heavy machinegun
Tarma: Higher slug durability and damage
Ralf: stronger melee, less ammo from pickups, can take 2 hits
Clark: Can use the argentine backbreaker for bonus point and is invincible while using it
Leona: has a special attack, can take an extra hit in the slug, gets more ammo, gets more grenades, and she keeps her weapon when she dies
>>321849118
>>321849201
I heard the demon was supposed to have more build up initially. Don't know what happened to that. Was kind of cool though.
>>321850414
Bat boss is atleast 70% skill and 30% RNG.
Fact is like 85% RNG and 15% skill.
It took a few times with the bat to get the patterns down so that you would atleast get 70% of the health.
Fact did pretty much as he pleased and i more or less just got lucky on my 50thish try.
>>321849593
Just took this screenshot. US Steam version.
>>321843409
>Noah
>not Gabriel in the one SMT game where magic is fucking useless
>>321850485
1 is cool because it had a lot of detail put into the stages. Like every single stray bullet ends up destroying some kind of scenery.
>>321850072
I thought it was shit as a kid because I couldn't figure out where I was going
Replaying it on the MCC, it's a fun as hell level where you and your Elite bros blast your way through Flood with stolen jeeps and tanks
>>321850597
The only RNG in the bat boss is how long it takes for him to form again. If you can't avoid his shit, git gud
Fact isn't at all RNG because he moves in the exact same pattern every time you fight him
The only real RNG boss in Ys 1 is the rock faggot.
>>321849682
But Brahman was so piss easy.
It''s literally one single magic element per phase, plus some almighty attack in the last phase (Light and Brahma Sutra, I think). Just bring an elemental null barrier for each phase.
>>321849096
>>>>>>>One of the challenges is fighting in high difficulty with a club
>>321850881
that's Quarantine Zone, one of my favorites actually
Sacred Icon is the one directly before that which is basically The Library 2: Arbiter Boogaloo
>>321838857
LoD.
Andariell was pretty easy.
Duriell was hard or easy depending on class.
Mephisto was a joke.
Diablo was aslo class baised.
Mephisto was easy as a boss, minions classbased.
>>321845523
It's a lot trickier than it looks. If you accidentally leave one or two aliens alive and they start attacking then it's basically a guaranteed death in zombie form.
>>321842667
Anon be careful! It looks like a homing shot!
>>321850979
Your joking right?
Rock boss is easy as fuck. Just dash into him and run in circles and you win even on nightmare.
>>321845215
That was such a weird boss.
>>321850878
Yeah, destructible environments are always neat. They could have probably gone farther with that somehow in terms of level design. There's some hints of it in 3 such as
>blowing up the red barrels while the plant fiends are around them
>destroying a helicopter and having it crash down upon some soldiers or a tank, killing them
>destroying the cars that are carrying the tanks rather than the tanks themselves
Some good shit.
>>321851319
>tfw realize that they were talking about the Time Eater's attacks and not Sonic's homing attack ability that he can't use
>>321839523
>I can't believe they didn't have POWs drop them on this one.
but it has
>Skyward Sword
>Desert second visit
>Fucking Sand Ocean
>Fucking Pirate Ship dungeon
>That still functioning Robot Captain
>The build up to the boss
>>>>>>That fucking design
What the fuck
The battle itself was great but holy shit couldn't you design something better? Especially after the 10/10 battle with Koloktos
>>321851478
I do that shit and die most of the time
He took me about 6 tries to beat on Normal, and I've lost too many time attacks to him
>>321851538
No, they drop Heavy Machine Gun and Laser.
>>321850998
It can very easily wipe your whole team in one turn if it casts decides to cast Eternal Zero, then Mind Charge Brahma Sutra twice
Other than that, yeah it's not bad at all, but that one series of attacks completely ruins it
>>321851135
Ok sorry, I can never remember which level is which when Halo 2 pulls that double level bullshit
>>321843084
>>321843681
You simply can't go from standing to full sprint fast enough on keyboard. No, it's not an issue with input delay, the acceleration simply takes longer. It's entirely bullshit programming with no simple workaround. As a result, the way you're "supposed" to get through the lift sections doesn't work.
It's bullshit to say keyboards are "inherently" bad when the devs are intentionally throwing gameplay for it under a bus.
>>321851619
by deploying the POW
come on man. I literally played this game 3 days ago
>Half of his attacks make him completely invincible
>Tons of invincibility frames everywhere else
>Most dangerous move is just him trying to jump into you
>>321851559
>mfw
>>321851904
He's saying that the POWs don't drop enemy chasers.
>>321851939
But he's my favorite robot master
>>321851559
In an interview a long time ago, Miyamoto kept stating how dissatisfied he was with how serious Zelda games were getting after Majora's Mask. So, designs like Tentalus and The Imprisoned were all him, more likely than not. Even if he didn't put pen to paper, it was almost assuredly his decision.
>>321852076
oh, he need to git gud then
>>321851559
Doesn;t help that guy has no reason to exist even by Zelda boss standards.
>Enter engine room
>Tentalus conveniently trashes the ship
>Is never mentioned again
Really the pirate should have been the boss.
>>321850390
Played this at a friend's house.
I never got to experience the frustration of this asshole because apparently he summoned too many enemies, which caused him to get stuck in a doorway and he couldn't initiate the 2nd phase of this "fight".
>>321846174
Yeah they are also annoying in chalice dungeons. Their essentially just a harder more aggravating version of Demon's/Dark Souls' Reaper/Necromancer respectively.
I agree though. It's really fucking annoying when all they do is respawn 12 enemies until you can find their ass. Also, unlike previous games which had work arounds (Dark Souls being the best with Divine weapons and proper utilization of knocking skeletons into holes) Bloodbornes attempt just encourages sprinting around in circles looking for the witch because it is impossible to keep the enemies dead long enough to actually find her.
This boss would have been really good if it wasn't for the bad level design, the poor camera, and the reliance of the hourglass
The rest of the game was fucking great. Its what every dead island shit game should have been. But the final fight with this fucker, just ugh
>>321849096
To this day I still have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing during this fight. My all 9s run will forever be stalled at that stage.
>>321851559
Skyward Sword designs get too silly at times, even for SS itself.
Basically if you don't know destruction field you're fucked
What the fuck, id?
>>321851939
>latch the pirate bomb on him
>he tries to go underground
>bomb auto explodes and he takes damage
its the little things
>>321851559
>That still functioning Robot Captain
That made my day
That was amazing how he was still working and capable of fighting all those years passed
It made you think what would've happened if he was fully restored
....until they shoved in a shinier version in the final temple and ruined the whimsical wonder of it
>the current best thread in /v/ is about metal slug
not surprised honestly, i'd even bet taht most of you played it at the arcade at one point.
>>321857960
