>tfw I have £1500/$2400 to build a PC

I'm scared I might accidentally short circuit everything and lose all my money

Is building a PC that hard?

Is it even worth building a PC now, or should you wait until the new graphics cards are released?

With that much money, I'd go:

$35 for a Hyper 212 Evo if OC
$80 max on RAM
The most goddamn expensive GPU you can find, ignoring Nvidia Titan
Whatever else.
Fuck liquid cooling, it's bullshit.

>>
It's as simple as building Legos, the most difficult part is the bios. There is a video where Linus build a PC with his 3 yo son.
>>
Just watch some Youtube videos of assembly, reference your motherboard booklet, and make absolutely sure everything is compatible. It's just a matter of using Google and not being an absolute retard.
>>

The bios?

in all seriousness you should consider a pre-built. it will be worse value but you're effectively paying for the certainty that you won't pay and end up with fried shit, and for the removal of the headache you'll have even if it goes okay

The only hard part when it comes to building a PC is putting in the CPU, which is simple since you merely only hold it by the edges then putting on enough thermal paste for it to hold your fan correctly.

The rest, you literally read the motherboard manual and it tells you what goes into what and its so easy a kid can do it because slot A typically only fits slot A.1

Only thing I can see you actually fucking up besides putting in the cpu is screwing in the motherboard into the case without using those spacers youre given, I hear this is common, but again just read the manual.
>>
>>321788893
It's not hard, I've build my very first high end PC by myself this November. You just have to do your research before completing parts and not do stupid shit when assembling all this shit.

Waiting with buying your stuff for new GPUs/CPUs is a never ending cycle, you decide when to break it. But with budget like this you can get 980ti/Titan/AMD equivalent of these and it will surely last you for a long time, unless you're going for 4k.

You won't break anything unless you physically, actually break the part
As in, snap it in half or twist transistors off of it, which wont happen by mistake
The only "hard" part is putting the CPU in, as some cheaper motherboards don't have clear labels on what direction to place it in, but it just takes a minute to look and see
The rest is actual lego, just plugs and slots

If you like throwing money away.

Just watch three or four different youtube tutorials and cross reference the ideas they present with the parts you end up getting.

The worst thing that has any probability of happening is your parts not fitting in right. You'll have to research the dimensions of your case properly.

The r9 390x will be better for dx12 and is already over the 970. It also has 8gb vram vs 3.5 gb on the 970.

If you want my opinion on what you should do, I would say wait for true dx12 cards like amd's arctic island. Frankly I don't trust nvidia but that's for another topic.

If you're too impatient get that and see how it goes. You can always sell the 390x and upgrade to a dx12 card if you want as well to recoup some losses. AMD tends to support their cards longer if you're interested in that.

To be honest though it's not over until we get the dx12 benchmarks of nvidia vs amd but all we have are some early tests that amd is winning

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/08/directx-12-tested-an-early-win-for-amd-and-disappointment-for-nvidia/

Still not the deciding factor obviously.

Not at all. Connecting the power supply is tedious but not hard.

>Is it even worth building a PC now, or should you wait until the new graphics cards are released?
It's personal choice. There's always a batch of new cards "coming soon." So you'll be waiting forever. Eventually you're going to have to bite the bullet.

But with your budget, it doesn't even matter. You can get whatever you want.

If you buy quality there are actual manuals bundled with the parts you buy, anon.

If you have a Haswell or Haswell refresh, don't upgrade. Wait for Cannonlake or whatever comes after Skylake.

If you have a 780ti or r9 200 series, don't upgrade, wait a year after Pascal and Arctic Islands. Gaming's pace is dictated by underpowered consoles since there is no dedicated PC game company with PC exclusives coming out.

If you don't have an SSD get one just to cut down on load times, that's really the only benefit for gaming.

If you want to get into VR the GPU will be the most important part, so wait on that.

You should be set for this entire gen with somewhere around 1k.
If you get poor performance, well, it's most likely a shit optimization issue.

Ignore other regards that don't know how to get good prices. £700-£900 assuming i5 and 970 min. Total changes depending on other components.

What does it mean when some of the components say ***Extreme OC*** next to them?

Does that mean they'll last like a year at most

Gaymer marketing buzzwords. Just means it's clocked at a higher frequency e.g. standard is 1600MHz, OC is 1700MHz. You could usually buy the cheaper, normal version and "overclock" it yourself.
