I've broken three controllers in the past month trying to git gud in the competitive fighting game scene.
What do?

There's spacing, footsies, conditioning your opponent, and high level play requires advanced technique and expert inputs. What is it missing that would make it a "fighting" game?

Git gud without breaking controllers.Hey I love Smash too, but call it a competitive fighting game or part of the scene and you'll be labeled an autist. Drop the fighting game pretentiousness and have fun instead.

Get on HRT and stop being so ragey and dramatic with your button presses.
Smash requures finess.
If you damage your controllers, you're putting so much force in that you're going to miss important frames.

It winds up being a combination of a bunch of smaller things.
>Only certain moves can kill, while in fighting games you cab mill with a jab.
>Throws work like a fast unblockable in smash, while most fighters allow for a throw tech.
>Complete lack of a health bar, you can die at 50%, or manage to live into the 200s.
And etc.
Its a valid competitive game, but it really isn't close enought to other fightan to be included in the same genre.

Another anon here. I don't think smash is a true fighting game, but it seems a bit strange to label it something else entirely just because it isn't a standard fighting game. You can spot dodge to dodge throws, isn't that technically a tech? You can also ground tech and wall tech, but I'm guessing that's something fairly unique to smash. What genre would you classify it as anon?
