Learn to cook, and do all your own cooking. Go to farmers markets and buy things on sale then freeze them for later. Walk when you can walk, bus or bike when you can't and if you have to bus then do multiple things a trip. There, that's a few hundred a month saved. Don't get into the habit of smoking or drinking. Alcohol is only for special occasions as it's very expensive. Food is the biggest factor in savings and the one you can control the most.

Treating yourself is fine, but you can treat yourself cheap. A carton of icecream is 2 bucks and will give you a bunch of "treats", as well as lower your food expenses in other places by lowering how much more you need to eat that day.
