Well if it's any consolation, Mighty and Ray are on a Missing Persons poster in Sonic Generations in I think the City Escape level. The only piece of Sonic related material that uses old characters and has been doing pretty well so far are the comics. In the current arc alone you've had Mighty, Ray, Fang, Bean, Bark, Honey, Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts show up.

I'm mostly thinking of all the posts that were made months before the ballot finished, though they did gain more traction as the last day grew closer, like how people figured Shovel Knight was a guarantee because of the amiibo or how Wolf and Krystal were guaranteed because of Star Fox Zero.
