Is this right?
>>
>>321717510
I mean most games require some kind of graphics. Even if it's just text. Else it's just.. choose your own adventure on tape.
>>
>>321717510
99% of games are bad then
>>
What
No
What kind of retard came up with this?
>>
>>321717618
>you cannot interact in a 3D world without sight
>>
>>321717510
Remove 'on the first try' and it's still pretty stupid.
>>
>>321717790
I mean you'd need touch too, which games lack. Or smell, also true. Taste also true.

Basically I'm saying you're fucked on a virtual platform unless the game is specifically designed to be audio only, even then it'd be a shit game.
>>
>>321717790
You cant
>>
>>321717510
This is stupid
>>
>>321717790
You know those things blind People use? You can't use them in a game. You certainly can't fight and use one. Even if you could use one sound in games isn't as good as real life
>>
>>321717939
>close eyes
>an entire dimension suddenly vanishes
>>
>>321717769
instant gratification fags
>>
>>321717510
this faggot implies the Rhythm Heaven games are shit
>>
How is it bad?
I need the reasoning behind this bait.
>>
>>321717510
No. I didn't even know there were salty blind people that hated video games.
>>321718173
>Close eyes, lose only effective means of observing a changing 2d plane of existance
Stick to audio books dipshit
>>
>>321718135
>sound in games isn't as good as real life
Neither are graphics, but sighted gamers get along fine.
>>
>>321718135
a blind person can't play a video game. it lost an avenue of media for it to enjoy.
>>
>>321718394
Graphics don't need to be realistic for navigation using solely based off them. Sound Is different and does
>>
>>321718586
you can play a mute game but not a black screen.
>>
>>321718408
Yes. This thread is basically about games being shit because blind people can't play them
>>
>>321718586
>not wanting to play a game where you play as a bat
>>
>>321718704
Same with Movies and Television and Theater and Sports and Porn
>>
>>321718707
>>321718681
How can two people have such bad reading comprehension?
>>
>>321718586
I agree with what you just said but jesus your phrasing is terrible.
It was basically
>No matter how terrible graphics are you can still use them to get around, even when they are completely unrealistic
>Sound MUST be realistic or else it's useless to navigate using audio
>>
>>321718851
How does one person say vague things expecting people to fully comprehend
>>
>>321718864
Yeah. I'm on my phone and tired. Excuse me
>>
>>321718586
Sound may be easier to render with less CPU tax
>>
>>321719084
It's not about performance or hardware. It's about making realistic sound in the first place. How sound reacts to environments. So on and so on.
>>
>>321718327
>only effective means of observing a changing 2d plane of existance

>what is echolocation
>>
>>321719251
There's this thing called physics the knowledge of which is widely available and helps our understanding of how sound works
Regardless, they still don't have to be realistic, just clear. A giant glowing ? over someone's head isn't realistic, but a cue that this person has something to say
>>
>>321717790
Blind people use touch just as much as sound. You can't do that in a video game.
>>
>>321717510
What is this even implying? A thread had to die in order for you to make this OP.
>>
>>321719585
i dunno how well humans can echolocate. I heard stories of some blind people but i don't quite believe that.
>>
>>321719759
Doesn't Steam's controller have some kind of haptic feedback mechanism?
>>
>>321719670
Once again comparing visuals to sound for navigation when they're different. Knowing how something works doesn't mean you can easily re-create it in a digital world.
>>
>>321718221
But these people can't into rhythm.
>>
>>321719837
>>321718707
>>
>>321719846
A bit of vibration isn't fucking touch simulation
>>
>>321719957
>playing as a flying mammal out to eat fruit in pitchblackness

I heard of niche games anyway.
>>
>>321719913
Positional audio is a thing. All you need is sounds for everything important, and controller rumble when walls are hit, and it shouldn't be too hard to figure out, especially for professional game designers
>>
>>321720241
>running into a wall gives you a rumble

and I'm sure gonna seem incredibly stupid if you were able to see it.

the sound idea is a good idea though, imagine if the character had a cane and the game programmed a ton of different cane tap sounds and the blind player had to use that to navigate and puzzlesolve.
>>
>>321719837
Well for humans, yeah.
Its probably only a matter of time before technology allows us to navigate woth all 5 senses as well as we do with sight. Hell, probably even more than just 5 senses
>>
>>321720241
There's more to realistic sound than just positional audio
>>
>>321717510
I think this implies that story driven games are bad, which is true, but this is a retarded way of conveying it.
>>
>>321720562
Positional audio would be most of what would be needed to navigate the world. That it doesn't sound exactly like the real world is probably less of an issue, especially when you remember that most games from over a decade ago weren't even close to realistic
>>
>>321720639
I don't see how that's even close to what was said
>>
>>321720241
>professional game designers
>professional

Anon... I... Didnt want to be the one to tell you but... Thats just a fairytale. That we tell to good little anons so they have something to hope for.
I-I'm so sorry...
>>
>start Super Mario Bros
>nothing to imply I should move
>goomba walks up and kills me
Must be a bad game.
>>
>>321717510
I can't wrap my head around this.
Is this a stealth Rhythm Heaven thread?
>>
OP, are you blind? Is that why your dumb image is 663x376?
>>
>>321718707
bats are not blind...
>>
There are media designed for blind people, and media not designed for blind people. You wouldn't call a book "bad" because it was written in text and not braille. Similar to braille I think a video game designed for blind people might be cool, and there probably already is one desu, but that doesn't take away from normal vidya.
>>
>>321721020
>>321719585
>>
>>321721023
Books, especially ebooks, can be read by synthetic voices. Video games with great sound systems played on top of the line audio hardware would allow someone gud enough to snipe someone's head off from 50 feet away just because they were walking too loud
>>
>>321719585
Not something you can utilize in a video game, which is usually a 3D space projected onto a 2D flat monitor.
>>
>>321717510
Gone are the times of strategy guides and sharing discovered secrets with your friends as you play vidya together.

Instead, a world of piecemeal, shittake DLC games with corridor shooters and 1+2 = ? puzzle games have come to replace games of bygone years.
>>
>>321717510
No
>>
Sound design is often overlooked, sure. You can't even post sound WebMs to /v/ is a sign of how insignificant it's deemed.

The problem is most games have bigger problems than audio, my friend. Bigger fish to fry.
>>
>>321721528
Sounds like a casual who doesn't want to learn new mechanics to me
>>
>>321720448
Absolutely not.
If you're speaking to any human bean, this would disqualify most every game where:
>There are no other, non-blinded human players working alongside you that you can communicate with.
>The controls require any more than than rote reading to completely master.
>The level layout in each playthrough is randomized in any meaningful sense.
>The human is not given any forward knowledge about what they have to do to beat what they have to before being thrust into their blind playthrough.
There are a select few games that could qualify, with some provisions, such as DDR on an low level song when given the step map to review beforehand, but there are a massive library of good games that would fail this test.
>>
Most minigames in Rhythm Heaven are better playing blind with sound cues than visually
>>
>>321717712
>99% of games are bad then
Sounds about right, don't even need OP to tell you that
>>
>>321717510
Wait how do you "hear" the bottomless pits in Super Mario Bros?
>>
>>321722964
I'm certainly hearing an audio cue right now
It's the sound of a nintenyearold finally realising his favourite game is bad
>>

so that is the reason why video games are the favorite passtime of blind people.
>>
>>321717510
seems like it was written by a blind faggot.
>>
>>321717510
Now I want to know if there is a game out there that is good by this standard.

>>
>>321717917
(Cough) Guitar Hero.
>>
>>321723939
good luck doing this on first try

Even games that ARE designed to be played using audio cues only, like Rhythm Heaven are impossible to beat on first try
>>
>>321724096
>>321724230
Games designed to be beat at your first time are usually bad to be honest family.
>>
They're called VIDEO games not AUDIO games.
>>
>>321724149
>remove "games" from video games
>this is OK and encouraged by modern gamers

>remove "video" from video games
>this is a sin and shouted down by modern gamers

>>321724339
I'm not into the whole movie game/railroaded walking simulator craze, but the latter point is fair. Video games are an interactive medium. Removing the ability to see what you're interacting with is for the entire experience is detrimental. Do you think blind people want to be blind?
>>
>>321717510

There's a blind guy beat Abe's Odyssey using only sound cues. It's pretty neat.
>>

Lies! Most muds work fine with screen readers, hell a lot of them ask if you are using one so that it works with them better.
>>
>>321726441
Unless someone told him everything, that would just take a lot of trial and error. Especially if you're talking 100%.
