The fact that you actually can stagger enemies in DMC makes it better though.

Enemies in bayonetta hit back and hit back hard. Its more about dodging and using dodge offset to fuck niggas up. Getting pure plat is harder, and more fun imo than getting SSS

You guys must suck at Hack'n'slashes. Bayonetta's skill ceiling is tiny. Get a high end Bayonetta 2 combo movie and compare it to a Devil May Cry one, than go kill yourself afterwards from sheer grief of how utterly wrong you are.
Bayonetta is literally "press buttons in any order and look cool" whilst DMC is "Here are all these buttons, go make sometime cool out of them", the floaty as fuck jumping, witch time, "Aerial moves" which are just ground moves in the air with SOME unique aerial moves are what works against Bayonetta being anywhere near as mechanical deep and interesting as DMC. I say this as someone who loves Bayonetta.

I've yet to play DMC4:SE or DmC beyond the demo though, and the last time I played DMC2 was on a rental a long, long time ago when I was young and I hardly remember it, although I have the HD collection now, so I may as well.

Pretty much. Bayonetta is similar to MGR as in you really only need to master one mechanic to be good (dodging/parrying), actually knowing the combos barely gives an edge in combat thanks to how the enemies are designed.
DMC4 isn't the hardest game in the world but people who pretend that Bayo in any way is more skill demanding just sound like turbo casuals who tries to pretend they are extremely talented when platting Bayo. I love both series but come on.
MGR is the least complex of them all though. It's really boring once you've S ranked the game.

Oh yeah, that that intricate mechanical skill of dodging easily choreographed moves that sometimes have a shine inbetween the button mashing. It makes next to no sense to knock enemies into the air in this game, you do the same moves in the air the majority of the time and the enemies are usually so big that it doesn't warrant the safety of being in the air either. Compare that to DMC where the incentive of being in the air opens up a different skillset which is made 10x more intricate with jump cancelling AND is rewarded by being safe in the from the enemies below for a certain amount of time.
DMC has enemies that don't stay in the air for ages when knocked up, good gravity, inertia that you can use to add even more mechanical depth to your combos, great ways of getting to an enemy, great ways of dodging. If ignorance had a weight to it you would have your own field of gravity my friend.

Oh I agree, I would much rather play Bayonetta 2 to pass the time than I would DMC4, and I spent 2 years getting good at DMC4 and being a part of the infernal works community in order to learn how to properly JC and do some sick nasty combos, but it isn't fun to play with the lack of enemy variety.
DMC4 is the result of creating a great fighting system and doing an even greater disservice to it. I will happily accept people calling Bayo 2 a better game because in all of it's aspect it is, but don't pretend that the mechanics are comparable in skill to that of DMC4 or even 3.

DMC3's strong point is that great feeling of scaling a tower to fight your equal who bests you. It's quite legendary how they made Vergil a rival in DMC3
Scaling to tower for the first fight = Curiosity to see how it will unfold and which is better. Kicks your ass.
Getting to the blood ritual for the second fight = Vengeance for both him stealing your fucking weapon and kicking your ass the first time. You tie.
In hell for the final fight = Sorrow because previously you realised the two make a great duo and enjoyed fighting as Vergil with his moveset, you want to see if diplomacy works instead of fighting him. You beat him
I really love the structure, I am certain it is the reason people love this game over the other instalments.

That's why DMC3 is almost always rated above DMC4 for example. The combat in DMC4 is objectively better, but 3 is just a much much better game. For that same reason many people rate the Bayo series above DMC, and Bayo 2 above Bayo 1, for being much more polished despite missing a couple of small elements of complexity in its combat.

DMC 3&4 was far easier with plenty healing drops after each fight. Plus monsters get stunned easily and safe air combos were easier to execute. Feels like the only way to win Bayo is to bait out Witch Time.
