Lol, I've been playing on Nost and this rarely occurs.

Finding groups takes about 10 minutes, people don't leave after one wipe, and I haven't had to whisper or /who for a single role yet.

Hello 18 year old.
>>
>>321659671
>>321659675
It is though, it is the closest you could possibly get to vanilla WoW. And before you bring that argument that " we've done it all before ", there are various amounts of players who have not done the content before and are still new to it.

And I played vanilla so fuck off
>>
>>321659675
I can't speak for vanilla. I missed that boat. But Nost is pretty fucking accurate to my BC experience. Right down to /who spamming for groups as I run down through the Barrens to RFK.
>>
>>321659436
tell me what server in vanilla had consistently more than 10k players at all times?

Vanilla was good content wise, it was new and awesome experience back in 2004 because there wasn't really anything like it. The only competition was EQ1 which was like 5 years older. However the gameplay is fucking ass, and some classes outright doesn't fucking work in the end game. You want to play balance druid? Say goodbye to your mana after 3 spells. You don't want to be holy priest? Reroll. Wanna tank? Get a warrior and spam sunder armor ONLY because it generates the most threat. Paladins were buff bitches who had shit heals.

Most raids sucked ass as well, molten snore is tank and spank everything coupled with "DISPEL THIS" on every other boss. 40 people raids was cancer out the door and organizing it was a trip through hell. Then the bitching about loot, dear fucking god. Whoever thought that a boss designed for 40 fucking people should drop only 1-2 items is beyond me.

One of the most aggravating things is having to eat and drink for every mob you kill when soloing. Arbitrary wait time is what it is.
>>
>>321660152
Yeah no fucking shit, there's no proper LFG functionality. Of course people are spamming /who you fucktard.

Is this an indictment of some kind? I am saying people are behaving similarly. Not that it isn't obvious. Also, while it was not overtly stated in my first post, realm population affects the success rates of /whoing, and Ner'zhul in BC felt like Nost.
>>
>>321660523
>One of the most aggravating things is having to eat and drink for every mob you kill when soloing. Arbitrary wait time is what it is.
In old MMOs people used that time to talk about either the game/dungeon/other things.
These days people just enter the group without a word, rush through the dungeon with the GIBBE LOOT mentality and then leave the group without a word.
>>
>>321660523
Nost is close, it's at 9k, though if you're American you might get laggy at those peak times since the servers are based in Europe.

And that is very true about the classes, most people are shunned for playing a dps warrior for example when tanks are needed, and feral and balance are basically useless. Though this is the same in nost which is bad, though does bring to the point that it is similar to old vanilla. Shadow Priests are most OP in pvp currently, though not needed as much in pve, and I haven't reached raiding content yet so I can't really comment on that, though that does bring back memories of how awful raiding was. I did feel more accomplished when downing a boss or getting a gear piece with simply how hard it was. And the eating/drinking thing was and is annoying though it adds to imersion and the differences between classes, such as life tap or mages having the advantage to create food/drink or even giving you a reason to level first aid.

Last time I played WoW was 7 years ago. People did this type of shit back then. I remember the time where we exchanged 2 tanks, 1 healer and 3 dps after killing 2 fucking mob groups in a raid. Has it really gotten any worse?

>In old MMOs people used that time to talk about either the game/dungeon/other things.

>1000+ mana and 300 manaregen in your teen levels, so it's literally impossible to run out of mana
>you can do most dungeon with two people or even solo in some cases (overpowered heirloom items) so people just rush towards the next boss with little regard for strategy, coordination or communication
Felt like a casual singleplayer game with other people.

>>321661520
There's nothing wrong with some downtimes. Not having any downtimes carries some broader implications, be it PvP, pace and earnestness in PvE, the whole social aspect etc.

Hell I'm not arguing for Lineage 2 levels of downtimes, but vanilla WoW was okay.
>>
>>321661993
Jesus. Leveling on the one server like that must have been hard. Meanwhile on every other PVP server in the game the Horde dindus always had toe pop advantage. Sucks to be you I guess.

i think he refers to the LFG matchmaker which just puts you in a group of randoms from different servers and most of the time people don't say shit because you won't see each other again.

>>321662335

Yeah, I get that having a LFG makes the experience more mechanical. The speed is definitely an advantage.
However, I feel like an aspect was lost when they started implementing it. "Singleplayer game with other people" is a nice way of phasing it. Most of the heroic challenges that I did were with other random people, you know? You ask your fellows if they are up to doing X, 1 or 2 are, you find whatever role is missing to complete the party and there you go. Not only have you completed some of the achievements, you've found people who are willing to do more of those runs with you.
I do agree that nothing beats the experience of playing with real life friends, but this certainly was a nice addition.

I disagree. If you're comparing it to retail it is completely different and if you're comparing it to vanilla wow it's slightly different.

On nost, people are still willing to help, group up, help people learn new things and work with each other. Obviously it's nothing like retail but bears similarities to vanilla.

We went from a single tight-knit community where Ninja looting items and griefing would cause the entire realm to add you to the ignore list to having everyone on your ignore list by default as you don't really talk to anyone from your server anymore.

Heck, you don't even add good players to your friends list in the hopes you might play some more dungeons or do some grindan together later.

How fast is leveling in Nost ?

Do people really not socialize in Nost? It was a huge thing in Vanilla.

I mean, you wouldn't befriend many people as pretty much everyone wanted to do their own thing. But no one was an asshole, pretty much. And you'd get to level up with complete strangers for a couple of levels if you became bros during dungeons/questing elites and group questing.
>>
>>321670447
Levelling is exactly how it was in vanilla, zones are always full with people questing, and it's easy to get groups for elites quests. People so socialise, the only issue is the chinese players who don't speak english, but I've made a decent amount of friends on the game from just grouping up and I'm in a active guild with good members. And yea, I got two friends that I met levelling and now we level together for the most part.
>>
>>321670447
>How fast is leveling in Nost ?
1x

>Do people really not socialize in Nost?
I no longer play, but it wasn't uncommon to get dungeon groups that were lively. As long as you're willing to initiate conversations, people will be very willing to socialize.
>>
>>321670447
I think the huge population is a problem, you have to be much more combative with people you would otherwise be cooperating with. Tons of people wanting the same mining/herb nodes and its pretty common to have 10-15 people waiting on a named npc spawn that takes 15 minutes to respawn.

>One wipe and everyone quits out
This is a thing with current wow but it wasnt for vanilla. It was actually rare for a group to disband if you wiped because you wouldnt just click a button then get teleported to the instance. You had to talk to people in the game, get a group set up, then walk to the instance, sometimes fight the opposite faction while you were getting there. Just getting to the instance could be an adventure and feel like an accomplishment. If you wiped people would ask what went wrong and would either try to do it without screwing up or brainstorm different ideas to try.
Its current wow where if you wipe people leave without saying anything.
>>
>>321671124
exactly.

I remember wiping in Maraudon like 6 times before clearing it (more than once) and we didn't disband.

leveling inside dungeons was so rewarding that we'd put up with the wipes in the hopes for actual non-green gear (which was rare as fuck) and completing quests / gaining shitloads of XP.
>>
>>321658913

January forward always gives me the nostalgia, maybe i should level another character on nostalrius. Though i got tired of endgame a month after hitting 60 last year.
>>
>>321659675

Only difference is that people min max more at 60 instances and raids, and even then i managed to run all dungeons several times as enhancement shaman.
