Can anyone who's been around on /v/ for a long time recall any game that got so big, and attracted so much autism, that it looked like not even /vg/ was enough for it? Did a video game equivalent of /mlp/ ever look likely?

Or does /v/ usually just turn on games before that happens

This during the Platinum, HG/SS, and right before B/W where released. There were always at least 4+ threads about Pokemon.

Katawa Shoujo is almost the whole reason /vg/ was created and even after it was made and /ksg/ was a thing, threads still popped up and capped in /v/.

In the past year, probably Smash Bros, MGSV and Undertale were the worsts.

cool, I don't use /v/ often, but like to see your reactions to "OMG BEST GAEM EVR" whenever they arise.

I'm currently studying Undertale
>>
/vg/ makes it impossible for that to happen.

Just look at the level of autism in some of the generals on there, Katawa Shoujo for example is nearing 2900 threads.
Some others like Mass Effect don't have a threadcount but it's been going continuously 24/7 since the last game released three and a half years ago.

It's damn good at containment.
>>
Oh my god. The Undertale fanbase on /v/ have literally done nothing. The ones who are autistic are the faggots constantly making threads about how much they hate this "meme game"

I haven't even played Undertale, but I know that this still won't stop you from greentexting that sentence followed by a smug anime pic and then fool yourself into thinking you won the argument.

you can just hide the threads you don't want to see

OP here, I have no opinion on Undertale. If its being talked about, I just watch what's being said, good or bad
>>
>>321645262
My personal opinion on Undertale is that it's a decent game for what it is, provided enough entertainment to justify the price, but any comments that 'it's like earthbound' are completely false to anyone who's actually played both.

It is too popular, but that's to be expected of something that is easy to get into and provides just enough challenge that anyone can play it.

If only it was used more often. I can understand an occasional thread in /v/ popping up about a game that might have a general, but full-blown constant threads about a single game months after it's released should be pruned, imo.

A lot of these are fun and not bad at all. Always assumed using Leech Seed and Toxic together was intentional, as well as the Hyper Beam thing. Made schoolyard pokemon fights pretty fun.
>>
Neptunia should get a containment thread.
>>
People forgetting this is actually the metal gear containment board.
>>
>>321645912
There is a /nepg/ the problem is that the games coming to PC as well drawn added attention. There are a lot non-vidya related Nep threads (like the Compa one that's up now) that could be pruned.
>>
>>321646121

Sorry, I meant board, Neptunia are not games so they shouldn't be on /v/
>>
>>321646290
>Neptunia are not games
I have reason to argue that with you, but Neptunia isn't big enough for it's own board.

What about VNs? Pretty certain I've seen some replies that they're 'games' and allowed on /v/.
>>
>>321644790
I never realized there were so many problems with Gen 1.......
>>
>>321645353
so, it's just like MLP, and probably just as deserved.

I always find it funny that people freak the fuck out about having too many threads about the same game and start autistically spamming the /vg/ redirect when the only thing that too many threads about one game prevent is the opportunity for shitposters to shitpost more.

Because let's be honest here, if we don't have 500 threads about MGSV, we have console war threads and MÉMÉZZZ.

There's a "hide" button for a reason.

You can all just keep scrolling down if you want to see another topic.

I don't see how those threads upset you so much. Would you like a trigger warning on them? Maybe a sub-section dedicated to every game? With its own rules?
>>
/vg/ was a mistake. If oyu don't liek a thread you can just fucking hide it and not post in it, simple as.

/vg/ is a hellhole of namefags and drama where everybody stays in their own little community. Generals fucking kill discussion, you bring up something that may have been discussed in the past and you're told "this has already been discussed".

I remember when /v/ actually played video games together and actually had some orthodoxy. Now you can go to /vg/ and see fucking runescape threads, wow threads, lol threads, mass effect threads, idol master threads and worst of all fucking SWTO threads. /vg/ is literally fucking reddit and or gaia
>>
>>321648487
There is one thread that i always go there. Namely, /aceg/. One of the most stable threads in /vg/
>>
>>321644372

>Can anyone who's been around on /v/ for a long time recall any game that got so big, and attracted so much autism, that it looked like not even /vg/ was enough for it?

Hyperdimension Neptunia

And it's been on /v/ longer than Undertale has and has a thread on /vg/
>>
/v/ turns on games immediately after that happens, usually when multiple threads are up for the game and it starts spilling into other threads regardless.
Then the fans call /v/ hipsters because people without a strong opinion of a game get annoyed with its obnoxious fanbase and develop a kneejerk reaction to the game itself.
Then they metastasize to /vg/ where all generals become porn dumps and circlejerks, and the fanbase ultimately drowns in its own shit.
