Was there some deep plot thread I perhaps missed in the first game's story? I mean admittedly, I haven't finished SK2 yet (if I remember right, the last part I played was the fight against Ikaruga's brother). But the story didn't seem to hit any really interesting beats and from what I gather, the first chapter of SK2 is actually the end chapter of SK1. And it didn't seem too special.
