To be honest in my many years of playing mmos in guilds and such women do enjoy mmos as much as guys. They do tend to prefer structured guilds with activity and social interaction going on. Also they are great for keeping morale up since most of the people are guys so every now and then there's joking around and everyone has laughs. If skilled at the game women have a good attention to detail guys sometimes overlook or they bring up a problem they notice.
Then of course there's those attention seekers who are looking for trouble or the ones who just join to get free stuff and praise just for being a girl and leave when things get boring but they are more rare.
In the end women are invaluable to a guild I've had plenty of good moments just laughing with them about something silly in game, a few can be troublesome but they enjoy the game just as well, I think most however don't seek status and ego boosts from metagame competition it seems to be more a guy thing.

I'm a girl and I can attest that women are terrible for guilds. Normal women want attention consciously or subconsciously. At a subconscious level they will do things like complain to a raid leader, knowing they are likely to get their way. They don't think "I'm a woman so he'll do what I say" but they're just used to the idea of expecting things like that from their general role in society. Tomboy woman are just as bad. They try so hard to convince themselves they're one of the guys by way of slurs, improper behavior not fitting for a woman (such as tbagging), or just being loud and rowdy for its own sake. In fact I'd say they're worse actually because it's a deeper level of delusion of "I'm not like those other women" but ultimately their goal is for men to like them. I was hanging out with some nerdy friends from high school at a renaissance fair a few weeks ago, and there was this guy there who was just insufferable about sucking up to the one girl in the group. She didn't do anything remotely wrong, she was just there, but it was like this guy was determined to make things weird. She didn't make him into some whipped faggot, he naturally gravitated to be like that because he was pathetic.
At the end of the day, the fact of the matter is that people are shit, no matter what their gender. Men and women are different, but they can all be shitbags in their own way. As hilarious as it sounds, people don't treat the guild they are currently on as god's gift to the world, they treat like every other guild. And as such, when every day it's people whining about each other or being negative all around, people hop into another, if they have friends in the guild, they convince to move with them.
Maybe if it was something like a RO Guild that you partied forever or whatnot, people would have a motivation to stay, but as it is nowadays the only reason people join guilds is some passive bonus and maybe a chatbox if the game doesn't have a global channel

The dislike some feel here for women is justified. All women are like that. They are products of evolution and slaves to their biology same as men. Women entered gaming when it became social acceptable. Women are risk averse as a gender. It's who they are. Where were they in the 80's and early 90's when gaming was still nerd space? Where were the majority then? They weren't there because it wasn't socially vetted. Once it went mainstream, then they came in. Even still there are pockets of nerd culture that still aren't seeing appeal to women. One space is tabletop RPG's. Why is that? It's because that pocket of gaming is still considered to be the realm of basement dwelling virgins, and thus socially damaging.
This is how it is. Women like gaming for different reasons than men. All it means is they're here for different reasons, and appreciate different things. If people deem these reasons to be "Fake" or "wrong" that's on them. But the data is there regardless.
