Have people guide you to both New Camp and Swamp Camp (both near Old Camp Marketplace) and clear your way for free exp, also try pulling as much nearby monsters as possible and run in circles
Do all the non-fighting quests in all 3 camps
Learn 1 handed weapon fighting asap and then some strength
Kill monsters alongside roads to all 3 camps because that's where the most weaker ones are. Try aggroing one at a time
If you can manage to get to the New Camp's Mine (few monsters on the way) then AFAIR there's free armor somewhere (miners pants or something)

Gothic 3 is an immensely underrated, rough diamond of a game.
With the community patches and some config tweaks, it looks and plays great.
Yeah the combat is simple but Gothic was never about exciting combat. It's more about adventuring and exploring, really.
I recently replayed it, dumped about 20 hours into it and got bored once in Varant. But that's my 3rd time playing it, each time playing around 20 hours but going to a different country. First I did Myrtana, then I did Nordmar, and finally Varant.Varant was pretty boring unfortunately. Too empty.

Weapon variety is okay I guess, but don't expect to be changing you go-to sword very often. Magic is kinda shit at low levels but gets fun in the higher circles. The downside is you need to stay away from people you want to talk to, because they will get pissed and forever attack you if they ever saw you as a monster.

There's more to it. In New Camp there's dealer who will ask you to distribute "samples" around camp. Hand them over to generic thungs and mercs. After that they will buy joints you find for 10 nuggets per piece. Not very profitable, but you can exchange various junk for weed at dealers, and then turn it to nuggets by selling weed around

But that's pretty much literally what you have to do. In particular, put points into strength until you reach ~40 or so, then pump the fuck out of your 1h or 2h skill so that you can actually kill people, and get a faction armor asap so you don't get one-hit yourself.
The game is shit, the combat is attrocious, and the balance is nonsensical. How come a farmer with a 1~7 weapon and farmer clothes kills you in one hit when your 20~40 weapon takes 20 hits to kill them and you're wearing super dragon XXL adamantite mythril superarmor++ magic edition? It's retarded that's what it is, and only abusing the game can fix that.
