What video game mechanic makes the game repulsive for you? It doesn't need to be something universally hated.
I can't stand most of the Metroidvanias when they employ bounce back on hit mechanic, especially if you get pushed to the previous screen and watch it slide into view. Best example would be La-Mulana and Shovel Knight. It's just an extremely unpleasant feeling and since I cannot go through the game unscathed, frequent bounces suck the will to continue from me.
