Why are Japanese and Americans the only people in the world who make video game consoles?

Because there's no point in even trying.

OP you are forgetting about Brazil's one-and-only Zeebo, a 3G gaming experience! Try out the gaming sensation sweeping across Rio de Janeiro (discontinued 2011)!

Because the only other country I can think of with a tech industry to match either Japan or the US is Korea, and there really isn't a market for a new console there.

Though if we ever see a new entry to the major console wars there's a very good chance it will come out of Korea.
>>
>>321548730
Because both countries have huge information technology industries that shit on yuropoors, China will probably enter the market in a few years also

Because Microsoft's resources can't even win them a generation.

The window for doing well in the industry closed with the NES for anyone that didn't have license to use CD and DVD playback.

As for before the NES, there were several British companies making precursors to consoles, but went the way of Atari for the same reason they did.

The problem with China is quality. They have a history of cutting corners when it comes to their consumer tech. Also copyright laws are beyond flimsy over there so globally they are unreliable investments. Japan, SK and The USA are known for quality and dependability (there is going to be a contrarian arguing against this point.)

China is getting rich by producing mass quantities of 2nd rate products. I could go on a longer rant of how they measurement of GDP is skewed but I won't go into it.
>>
>>321549959
This looks exactly like it was made in brazil.

What, really? Europe doesn't have an equivalent of silicon valley/hills? Is that why Germany is constantly looking for IT people outside of their borders?

I looked into it once, and I still get a call on occasion from someone over there telling me about job openings, and that was several years ago. They must really have a dearth of technical people.
>>
>>321548730
Because Peral Harbor didn't work out so they have to win them over with consoles.

Anyone else notice how every worthwhile game ever has come out of either Europe or Texas?

You do know that both Japan and SK produced shit tier products that were considered low quality before China became the biggest manufactory region, right?

America's strength is having the resources to pay other people to do a better job than they can.

They have smaller more focuses tech companies, and in fact basically had a monopoly on the early days of the internet, but they don't have any massive giants like Japan (Sony, Hitachi, Toshiba), the US (Microsoft, Apple, Google), and Taiwan (HTC, ASUS, Acer).

(For some reason I was mistaking Taiwan with Korea, ignore that. Korea is shit, Taiwan is the other big player for technology)
>>
>>321550791
If china could abandoned shoddy consumer rights policy and improve quality in there products they could really could be a technology titan due to their huge industry base and massive working population.

>>321551000
Europeans due have some information technology sectors but near as much as a budget and reputation that the silicon giants of America and Japan do
>>
>>321551448
China built the 360s.

Not really helping your own point.
>>
>>321551381

>You do know that both Japan and SK produced shit tier products that were considered low quality before China became the biggest manufactory region, right?

That's literally the direct opposite for Japan, they were on top and ahead of the technology world before China became the manufacturing center of the world.
>>
>>321551772
Because the manufactory region shifted to Taiwan before going to China. You really don't know shit
>>
>>321551730

They manufactured them to Microsoft's specifications.
>>
>>321548730
Other countries do make consoles. They are just the rubbish you would find in a flea market.

Up until recently China was not able to import consoles so theirs were all android based crap boxes.

Presumably it's a mix of brand and having the electronics industry behind it.

Back in the day big electronics companies could just do it, now it's an incredibly costly affair and you need a brand like microsoft behind you to have a chance at not fucking it up.

I'm sure plenty of people could make a console, but why would they, it'd be expensive and have no brand power.
>>
>>321551921
>They manufactured them to Microsoft's specifications.
That were changed at the very last minute because Europe banned lead solder. Europe is the sole reason for why they died all the time.
>>
>>321548730
Because monopoly.
>>
In Europe consoles are rightfully seen as children's toys, and serious gaming is done on pc.
>>
>>321551730
Everything is built in China, fucktard.
>>
>>321553016

RROD was mainly down to bad ventilation, which is why the Xbone is fuckhuge and has ventilation grates on half the top of the system and three sides.
>>
>>321548730
Because the entry barriers are too high.
>>
>>321553386
>RROD was mainly down to bad ventilation
Only because the solder couldn't hold the temps because they couldn't use lead solder. Lead solder melts at a much higher temperature than the shit they used. It's also why Europe's PS3 got delayed for months and didn't ship with proper PS2 support. They couldn't resign the entire specs to deal with no lead solder. Europe is a massive shithole that the gaming industry should leave behind already.
>>
You forgot Western Europe. Consoles are luxury goods in Slavic countries and Korea already has an enormous PC gaming culture as well as China where consoles were banned for a long time. The rest is third-world.

ATI, the graphics company that would power all of those magical 3D consoles, is a company that was based in Canada.

so get fucked bud

Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft don't make anything inside those consoles, they just take computer parts and build their own restricted PCs.
>>
>>321548730
Consoles are a kind of winner take all industry if you haven't noticed. New companies have almost no chance against the top 2-3, unless they have some kind of big advance in technology or deep pockets for advertising. The only recent entrant that was successful was the Xbox line, and Microsoft was "only" one of the richest companies from the richest country in the world.

they're part of AMD now, but that doesn't change the history of ATI

and my point that the console manufacturers don't design any real technology.

so basically Japan hasn't made anything since Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA are all American.
>>
>>321548730
Because you need MONEY. There is a reason why Japan and America is one of the richest in the world. If anyone else attempted to make one they would probably go through a recession and than a depression and than another recession.
>>
>>321548730
China is the only country that actually makes video game consoles.
>>
>>321548730

Britain actually had a pretty decent grip on the gaming market during the time America was crashing theirs and Japan hadn't properly kicked off. They never really followed it up though.

>>
>>321555602
The gaming division is doing fine, its other electronics that they are worried about.
>>
>>321553386
Wrong, it had faulty hardware enginering where solder got a too high temperature and ended breaking, it didn't melt it just cracks, i don't know if you can blame AMD for that because the same happened with early Geforce 8600.
>>
>>321556153
the gaming division doing well doesn't mean much if all their other shit is holding them down so much. They still need to downsize more if they want to keep those ps4 profits
>>
>>321550208
>>321555670
Not as long as Korea continues to have more interest in PC games (MMOs and other online games more specifically).
>>
>>321555485
Outside of slav countries, this is wrong. PS4 alone is more popular than Steam.
>>
>>321548730
XBONE is just an overpriced subpar PC not a real console.
>>
>>321556853
why are Europoors so obsessed with playing a fucking soccer video game
>>
>>321556991
so is PS4, Nintendo even more so since it's the weakest but oh wait muh gimmicks
>>
>>321549959

It is a good thing the BRs tax imports so heavily so domestic achievements such as this can take place.
>>
Someone should make a console exclusively for indietard tranny games and stop annoying the rest of us with their shit
>>
>>321557490
They did. It's called PC. Publishing on consoles is way more expensive so they have way less shit games.
>>
>>321557135
XBONE barely got any exclusive titles. Also doesn't have handheld variant. It's aimed at normies who want to play casual games but don't want to bother with a PC. It's also mainly an american phenomenon.
>>
>>321548730
Because Yuros are too busy dodging artillery shells and surviving famine to engineer entertainment systems.
Some of them found enough pre-immigration tech to start making games, though.
>>
>>321557982
what does exclusives have to do with the fact that all 3 consoles are underpowered piles of shit?
>>
>>321549959
Hues are americans, though. South-americans, but americans nonetheless.
>>
>>321548730
Because those were The 2 big console markets and by now you have brand deciding on everything.
>>
>>321558162
Some shit are better than others. Not that I own any, but Xbax's existence is a mystery to me. Western devs never make games with consoles in mind, except if they get some ridiculous funding from the company to make it exclusive.
>>
>>321551000
>Europe doesn't have an equivalent of silicon valley/hills?
Smaller scale things.

I think there were few relatively modern semiconductor plants in ex-socialist countries(relatively modern = produced stuff that was shrink or two behind the leading tech) but all of them got closed down because ????
>>
>>321548730
Because Japan is little USA (only more racist) and does whatever daddy (USA) says.
>>
>>321558018
We just got a massive influx of cheap labour so maybe we will put something together
>>
>>321553016
Partially. RROD was caused by several issues all of which boiled down to shit thermal design.

Even then you can sell lead soldered devices in Europe just fine, you can't manufacture them there

The rest of the world just owns a PS4 for Fifa, so they don't really need to make their own consoles
