You're lucky! You can play SH1-4, on PC, right now, for free:

SH1 NTSC DDL:

SH2 DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!rFcj1SIJ!47JH9M4OrzmQKuaiJ6IqUgmgz_SVNtk4LIYNSa-D-_8

SH2 torrent:
https://mega.nz/#!bYcEnbhC!rYnhvcJiRC46T6yExS0Y61JHZ-5N3WxFvfZMI8xbyhE

SH3 DDL:

SH3 torrent:
https://mega.nz/#!GVVGRLpD!SyklVbuLIkc38ZYji5QL3sWHKtHt9-Bto700My8pH7c

SH4 torrent: Kickass torrents

And in case someone's once again new to this PC gaming stuff: Use a program like DaemonTools Lite to mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

SH2 was always the easiest and least spooky of the original SH-games. It's a much more story and character-driven game.

One of the reasons I still prefer SH1 over it.
But don't get me wrong, I love SH2 to bits too.

SH3 is almost a direct sequel to SH1, so you better play in release order.

Plus SH1 is the best game in series, and the most important chapter in the whole lore.

>>321553015
Wrong. PS2 emulation requires A LOT more CPU power than the 12+ yo PC ports. And with the fixes (mostly needed with 2), they work fucking fine on modern systems, even at 4k.
>>
>>321547239

emulation, especially PS2 emulation, requires very specific tweaks for the games to work and look right, and even then you need that 4Ghz CPU for the best results.

So, are you seriously implying that dragging & dropping ONE file to game's root is too demanding and difficult for you? Especially when you only need to do it with SH2.

>>321553557
>2 is an alright starting spot since it isn't connected to 1.
That's not exactly true though. The SH2 is a direct result of SH1's events. It just has an all new cast.
>>
>>321553884
Finally, a good choice!
Here's the good ol' recommended settings for it, if you plan to emulate it. You can also buy it from PSN Store for few bucks.
>>
>>321553945
>emulation, especially PS2 emulation, requires very specific tweaks for the games to work and look right

The only "very specific" tweak I had to do while emulating any Silent Hill game was to use DX9 in SH3, and even after that it ran well enough on my 3+ year old CPU, so I have no idea what you're on about.

Sounds more to me like you actually have no real experience attempting to emulate these games and are just reciting what you were told, either that or your machine is a literal toaster.
>>
Reminder.

>Homecoming was suppose to a trilogy
>Old characters like Heather, Henry, and Laura(who was Elle) were suppose to return
>Pyramid Head was suppose to have a much larger role
>The finale would have Josh and Alessa having a "Super Saiyan" battle over Toluca lake with Josh controlling water and Alessa controlling Fire

>Origins was suppose to be a dark comedy inspired by the TV show "Scrubs"

> Downpour in early development was suppose to have Murphy be an definite criminal and it had an American Psycho quality to it, described as "What if Patrick Bateman was loose in Silent Hill?"
>>
>>321554298
SH2-4's PC ports would run on ANY Windows PC or laptop made in the past 10 years, at HD resolutions at that. No tweaking or mods needed, SH2 being the only minor exception since it doesn't cope well with multicore CPUs without a manual tweak or the sh2proxy fix.

I've played these games for a good 16 years on numerous platforms, emulation included. My PC ain't exactly a toaster, but not a hi-end rig either anymore (i5 2500 + 8GB + 560ti).

>Gameplay isn't important in SH2

That depends on what you mean by "gameplay". There's not much fun to be found through engaging in the combat. The puzzles can be decent, though most of them basically boil down to exploring an area to find all the key items necessary for progress. It's similar to an adventure game, in that respect.

Exploration feels great though, given how much the game hits it out of the park with its presentation.

I agree that you usually have more than enough supplies if you're being thorough with your exploration, but I never felt so over-stocked to the point of trivializing the decision to fire a gun or engage an enemy without necessity.

>>
>>321555321
I've been emulating PS1 games for ages and never experienced any "butchered graphics" or glitches resulting from playing at a widescreen resolution, nigger.

This problem is more widely affected by PS2 games.
>>
>>321555542
SH1 has numerous issues in widescreen. The most apparent glitch being the Harry's flashlight floating off his chest as you move.

Also, unless you use the GTE Hack version of OpenGL2, the PS1's trademark polygonal jiggling gets worse and worse as you increase the resolution.

I'm pretty sure Murphy had a son, not a daughter.

Also, his deal with a bit more complicated than just mourning the death of his son. That was definitely part of it, but it was also learning to deal with the rage he felt towards his son's killer, and the guilt he had for allowing that rage to ruin his life.

SH3 is better on the PC if you can ignore how much better it is with a controller, but SH2 is much better emulated. Widescreen patches work automatically with it once you enable them and it has the best fog. Opening up the menu in the PC version always took an abnormally long amount of time, it runs perfectly emulated.
>>
>>321559552
>SH3 is better on the PC if you can ignore how much better it is with a controller
So, use a controller! I play these with KB only just fine myself.

>but SH2 is much better emulated. Widescreen patches work automatically with it once you enable them and it has the best fog.
The fog difference is quite minor, and PC port has better lighting. Also once you apply the widescreen tweak via sh2proxy, it sticks to it until you change it.

>Opening up the menu in the PC version always took an abnormally long amount of time
that was with the old, now obsolete widescreen hacks. The sh2proxy fixes that thing as well.
>>
>>321560238
>So, use a controller!

That's the problem. The PC versions don't support gamepads natively.
>>
>>321561312
Oh, they do. Hell, they even got gamepad control bindings in the options BY DEFAULT!

But I guess you meant that they do not support the modern Xinput gamepads (x360 controllers) natively. They do work, but you either gotta re-bind all keys again to match the button layout, or use some xpadder-kind tools.

If you got an older type, Directinput controller, they work just fine. Logitech even makes pads with a switch to swap between Direct- and Xinput modes.

Or you can simply emulate it and have everything you need to start playing properly out of the box and not have to download a single thing other than the game itself.

You're trying way too hard here, buddy. The minimal performance upgrades are not the extra time and effort in making the PC ports work properly.
