English tends to not put the long vowel stress on lone vowels. This leads to the pronunciation issues that seem to trigger you. All languages with strict phonetics get away with transliterating from English to their preferred pronunciations without retards like you getting their titties in a twist. Yet English speakers try to say things that are comfortable to their inclinations and you lose your fucking mind.

Languages, especially in English's case, do not have a "wrong" in the sense you mean when concerning transliteration and word appropriation.

It's funny seeing Anglos discuss this so much.
>>
>>321514498

Japanese will always be spoken the same. キ will always be said as ki, no matter what follows or predates. Although it may sound different based on speaker how fast/slow they're speaking.

Once you know "a i u e o" "ah ee uu eh oh" you just put the consonant before. Ka, ga, sa, za, etc all have the same "a" sound. Combonations like "ai" may sound different, but if you say "a" then "i", then hold "a" and change it to "i" you'll see how the sound comes, its just starting with "a" and moving up in your throat to the "i" sound
>>

>Like I said, a fast "kuh"

I'm not convinced you realize the short U in English sounds very different from the long U. A long U being spoken in haste or being cut would still sound very different from a short U. The long U makes an OOOOh sound and hearing that Japanese robot say kisaku sounds closer to k'sah-koo| than it does k'sah-kuh|

>If these two words where Japanese, Americans would say "bye-g sai-tey

God no. Reading that as moonspeak has me trying it as beeg see-tee before anything resembling your abomination.

>Fi with the i sounding the same as in "city" so an "ih" sound.

Oh. Those are the short vowels. The guy posting was mocking English speakers but our inclination is to the short. Latin would be against that inclination with the long I.

I love Phantasy Star 4 and often lament the absolute lack of that very particular blend of Sci-Fi and primitive setting in modern games. Its what's kept me buying Star Ocean titles despite not really enjoying them since SO2.

I think thats a screen grab from my Genesis Collection version on Steam and I was happy with how it handled. Seeing that it has a filter on is what makes me inclined to think so (I'm lazy and CBF to actually check) since I never use filters when emulating.

I strongly feel the PS series had FF beat for presentation in the 16 bit era. The little manga-esque cutscenes in 4 are really great. Game play is moderately challenging and engaging with a decent amount of visual appeal. Music is fucking great. I have the theme from the area in the image I posted stuck in my head right now.

It's more that compared to other languages, all our vowels have multiple ways of being pronounced instead of the single sound for each letter. I can't say I entirely agree with it, but that's how it is. I'm more mad that we no longer have the letter thorn (Þ) in use.

I read somewhere, that GBA collection doesn't handle the fourth game because of memory issues.

just exactly like it's spelled
fire - just like the word fire
fira - a more pronounced "r" and an "a" at the end, kinda like the word "high" + "ra", but with an "f" at the beginning (like "fighra")
firaga - like "fighra" + "ga" - "fighraga"
firaga

They still show up here and there. Firaja and Blizzaja appear in FFXIV 3.0. (Unfortunately due to shit localization, english players get them as Fire IV and Blizzard IV, but they're Firaja and Blizzaja to the japs.)
>>
>>321517479
Same as you. Now I don't know much about how you pronounce things in Hebrew, but I'm guessing you'd pronounce it se-fee-rot.
>>
>>321517479
Seph-eh-roth, said the same way but maybe easier to understand: Seph-ir-oth (ir would be ear for me)

R does strange shit to vowels preceding it in English. Like, in your instance you are making the long I in Seph-ee-roth, but the long I in English gets smoothed over heavily next to R. To the point that Eh-r and Ee-r sound very close and "ear" can be said both ways in a lot of our dialects without much difference in sound.

Some more great PS4 music.

You have no grasp of japanese if you don't know how to account for particles like that.
Ra and La are synonymous, and the remnant -o of "do" is superfluous, so "Cloud" is a perfectly acceptable (and indeed, accurate) transliteration.

You can only name Squall, Rinoa, and Rinoa's dog in FF8. Everyone else is stuck as default.

Usual for people is naming Rinoa "a slut"(all lowercase) and her dog "Dildo".

Gives you wonderful juevanile giggles all through out the game

>"We're looking for a slut."
>"I just want to hear a slut's voice!"
>"Dildo can learn all sorts of tricks!"

Neither of those words are Japanese. They transliterated Cloud to their language. You activated my trap card and you're not even aware of it.

When you transliterate from one language to another, the surrogate language is not entirely beholden to the rules of the parent language. This is why your glorious Nipoonese get away with butchering the pronunciation of Cloud and why English speakers have every right to butcher Sephiroth by destressing the long I when its next to an R.

Yeah, no. "Sephiroth" is not even a hebrew word. You're thinking of Sephirot, which is not actually Sephiroth. He is not "Sephirotto", he is "Sephirosu".
Much like Jenova not actually being a latin word, it's a new word to be pronounced by their conventions.

That is not how transliteration works. Sorry. long or short I next to an R behave similarly in English. It is a language/dialect specific property that does not have to bend to a parent language. Just like the Japs are not required to say Cloud in spite of their conventions.

Not mispronunciation. How English works. You're getting really hung up on the prescriptivist angle of language and English is subscriptivist by nature.
>>
>>321519759
It's a transliteration, both are acceptable. "th" doesn't exist in Japanese or Hebrew regardless.

>>321519830
English is a goddamn mess with the worst morphology on the planet and prescriptivism just makes more sense than mangling things with your already mangled method of interpretation
>>
>>321520128
But English literally can not follow prescriptivism 100%. There are far too many words under its umbrella from different languages and too many rules amalgamated from them to even begin the task. Let alone the subtle and not-so-subtle differences in English subgroups and dialects.

You CAN NOT make a universal ruleset for English.
>>
>>321520271
Because the morphemes are fucked, tear it down, it's a hodgepodge of gibberish who's only saving grace is just how bad you can mangle it but still 'make sense'

It's two types of Germanic (Anglo-Saxon & Danish) plus two types of French (Norman & Parisian) which then underwent a massive unexplained vowel shift and was codified by French-speaking printers who transcribed English using French pronunciation rules.

It's amazing that there aren't even more problems with this frankenstein of a language.
