I used to be all about Nintendo until the original PlayStation came along and kicked its ass. Currently own every PlayStation console minus the Vita.
Recently picked up a Wii real cheap and soft modded for access to every Nintendo title available apart from the Wii U (don't get me started on that piece of shit). I am hoping Nintendo pulls a miracle with the NX as I will be potentially picking one up.

Wii U flopped because Nintendo ran out of ideas and completely misread the Wii's success.
The Wii was successful because of good price point and motion controls that made it possible for any one, even 100 year old granny to play video games.
Wii U was essentially an Xbox360 with a dual shock controller with a touch screen in the middle that was barely utilized in games, even Nintendo's own.
Nothing appealed to casual gamers, nothing appealed to hardcore gamers.
Nintendo is my favourite game company, but the WiiU was clearly dead on arrival the second it was announced and I called it back then.
Nintendo should have focused on improving motion controls and making games more pick up and play while opening their console completely up to indie developers.

I'm actually excited for videogames in 2016 in general. Ps4 has some really good stuff coming out, so much so that I might actually buy one. Kindgom Hearts 3, Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn all have my eye in particular.

It demanded 3rd party to learn another architecture while not giving any significant performance gains over x360 and PS3. When PS4 and Xbone were out they weren't "just" more powerful than WiiU, they've also made multiplat development enormously easy.
It would still work if it wasn't for the fact that people simply didn't care. CoD:Ghosts didn't sell 500k on it. Fifa 2013 was the last Fifa on it while on Wii there's also 2014 and on PS2 there's 2015. It basically means that no x360/ps3 user migrated to the system. What caused it? Failed marketing? The fact that it didn't offer ANYTHING worthwhile over 7th gen console? I don't know either way the console failed, plain and simple.
Xbone also failed but it wasn't left without multiplats because it was easy to develop on, hence it still gets support - the costs don't outweigh the benefits.
Even in its darkest age PC also got majority of relevant games because it had staying power - PC games tend to sell well over time, which is nice addition to usual income.
Meanwhile WiiU doesn't have any quality to speak of from 3rd party perspective. It requires serious restrictions on multiplats because it's one gen behind, it doesn't have huge audience, ports aren't piss easy and sales will never be good.'
If you're an underdog you can't pull off crap. Sony or Microsoft can risk dictating the rules, nintendo can't, surprisingly enough they don't realise it.

I was playing Halo at my friends for xmas, the pop in as absolutely insane I had no idea it was that bad. He was exploring one of the earlier levels and every bit of detail 10 metres ahead was fading in and out depending on what he was doing. Even the shadows, it was ludicrous that game was released with such a laughable fault.
