Discovered over 250 locations before I finished the main story line. Went with BoS. Absolutely loathed Maxson. Half acceptable end, fighting alongside giant robot. Haven't played the game in over a month. Shit gets boring very fucking quick. No real value in anything and Fallout: The Sims, turns very annoying very quick.

No matter what you do in 3 and 4 you will be combat oriented and most things will be resolved through fighting with only one or two conclusions to any conflict.

For what it's worth, the original leaked document for FO4 specified that you play as the man, Nate. A soldier and a father, to keep it thematic with Fallout 3 in two miserable ways, and to tighten the screws on a more defined character than the previous games.
It's not like Nora was only made playable as a reaction to the leak, but it feels like not a lot of thought went into any of the player voicework. Playing through it as the male PC now the player voice feels like an even bigger waste of time than the last time around.

OP, the good news is that high INT was a good decision, you'll level very fast (and good perks), the bad news is that CHA is entirely useless and before long you'll get +1, +2 and +3 CHA clothing so you can make any dialogue go your way anyway
the game does get (much) better, but you'll have to work (roleplay) for it, i recommend going stealth build, get some agility (enough to unlock Sneak perks and optionally Sandman and Ninja) and ignore the settlement building once it bores you (simply don't report back to Preston for minutemen quests to, they're literally endless) since it's entirely pointless (beyond producing purified water, adhesive for crafting, and fertilizer for making Jet and stuff) and do the quests you like

Am I the only one who hated the scrap/upgrading system? It made the whole fucking game trivial. It was constantly searching around in fucking gutters looking for springs or copper just so you can be able to kill the shit that kept wrecking you because you decided you didnt want to use power armor, even though the game actually gives it to you and practically shoves it down your throat to the point where if you dont use it and youre not a stealth build youre going to fucking die a ton.
