Currently replaying Kotor 1, I am at the second visit planet now. (was Kashyyk for Jolee, now going Tantooine). I had it worse in experience, its quite fun though the first planet Taris can be a drag if you dont know what you are doing. Having Carth as the only party member is really draining.

Playing the first one provides a lot of information about the universe such as the mandalorian wars and such. I'd say it's very important to play the first if you want to enjoy the 2nd to its fullest. Also considering the 2nd is extremely strong on subtlety and giving you small references which can have a strong effect or implication, you really should play the first.
Without playing the first you won't truly understand how empty and desperate the dying universe of 2 is. Without having played 1 you feel nothing when seeing how dantooine has changed, or significance of the Telos restoration after seeing what happened to Taris. You question whether Revan was right in his actions based on what you learn from Kreia, and what he did that may have been influenced by her. When I convinced the sick man in Nar Shadaa to kill himself to stop the spread of disease, it made me really think about the fact that Revan must have learned the very same kind of lessons from Kreia, hence why he probably pursued his knowledge of droid building and made HK-47 into what he is.

Take it from someone who's played probably every MMO.
TOR is a very special case. When it first released it was plagued with bugs and the servers were woefully inadequate for the gigantic rush of people wanting to play the biggest newest MMO. The first month was a nightmare. Combine those with how similar to WoW it was(a LOT of skills were ripped straight from WoW; Power Word: Shield, Penance, lots of Warrior abilities, etc.) and everybody left for WoW again instead of playing the knock off.
Nowadays WoW is not even close to the same game it was before. TOR hasn't changed. TOR essentially snapshot a time in WoW that we no longer have, and is actually bizarrely unique if you play it now. It's its own game, if that makes sense. They fixed glitches, servers are stable, and they add content almost weekly at this point. I logged in one random day to an entirely new hub area with new things to buy and try-on merch wise. The free-to-play aspect is a little overbearing but you can buy most anything from the auction house. I was able to buy more bank space, more auction house spots, unlocking epic items, a new race, and Darth Malak's armor before I hit level 20 just by selling things from professions because the economy was fucked up.
There are some plotholes but they try their best to cover the up. One is a sith pureblood character's origin being a slave. Nnnnah, would never happen.
Also I love Sith Juggernaut AKA Darth Vader spec, force choke and force push are a fucking blast.

Star Wars Republic Commando is also GOAT. It's like Rainbow Six Vegas or Brothers in Arms if you ever played those. More like Vegas than Brothers.
Battlefront 2 is obviously fun. If you play the campaign (which is just a series of games vs AI) you get some insight into the mind of a clone trooper before and after order 66. It goes especially well if you saw the Clone Wars animated series (Cartoon Network one) which is really good.
KOTOR series is the best of the best though and you're already playing it. You should also know better than to stick around in a thread like this because spoilers.

Not in 2. Technically OK to do in 1 but there are no benefits at all. If you go super light or dark you get bonuses. In Kotor 2 you get specialized classes based on light or dark and I think they require a certain amount of ls/ds points as well as character level. Though KOTOR 2's theme is largely about that: moral ambiguity and seeing actions not as light or dark. Who knows if they had planned a gray route. If they did, it was probably one of the many things that Lucasjews forced them to cut so they could release the game before motherfucking christmas.

Sorry. For some reason I got KOTOR1 and 2 mixed up. It's Consular and then Weapon Master/Sith Marauder. The early boost in force points and the consular armor really stack well with the melee aspect of the melee prestige class.

Dark side afterwards for replay.
Then do Dark Side but pick mostly decisions you would do if you were a Jedi. You'll get the best ending and story.

Playing this game on modern computers is a fucking nightmare, even if you are tech savvy.
I started a play-through recently and dropped almost instantly because I couldn't cope with all the shit, I'll just wait until an "enhanced edition" is released or for some nerd to port the whole game to 2's enhanced engine, if that's even possible. Loved it. The new characters had fantastic chemistry from the get-go, it doesn't overly rely on you having seen the originals, and had some good goofy moments mixed in with the balling action scenes. Fanwanking was well handled without being overbearing in the sense that you'd probably still enjoy without having seen episodes 1-6 but still have the moments for the hardcore nerds to freak about (Finn tossing away Lukes training orb from IV in passing)
Most legit complaint I can think of is that the overall story and structure is basically cribbed moments from the original trilogy, but I can't bring myself to dislike it for looking to the best movies in the franchise for inspiration.Kylo trying to force grab the lightsaber, it soars by him to Ray and THAT FUCKING music kicks in. I don't even give a shit that we all knew it would happen, it still gave me goosebumps.
