PC users have done serious damage to the gaming industry and let me explain why.
Basically what happened before and during the PS360 gen is the rise of PC gaming and the mass migration. Those who had been raised by consoles were now turning their backs on them yet in such a way that instead of seeing them as platforms that supported game development for over a decade, they were now seen as mere obsolete pieces of hardware designed by greedy companies to hold back their gaming experience. This propelled the already growing subculture of PC superiority as we know it today.
What PC migraters failed to realize was the consequences of damaging consoles market share for it was to directly impact the capacity for the industry to fund and develop games in the wake of rising game budgets. Good hardware doesn't buy good games and many thought by moving forward in terms of consumer hardware would move the infrastructure that supports software development forward too, however, they simply didn't care to understand how that industry works and why it doesn't cater to the consumer with the best hardware and also how it ultimately puts them at a disadvantage provided their goal is to receive new software in the first place. The the relationship consoles and software developers share has since became demonized and attacked for simply operating under a sustainable model of financial and structural support that works for both the developer to provide software, the console manufacturer and ultimately the consumer.
As games continue to evolve they will simply continue to work hand in hand with console manufacturers who will adapt to the changes with hardware iterations toward the end of their life cycles. It is this infrastructure of complimentary support that actually holds the gaming industry together and drives it forward while also ensuring developers stay afloat and remain profitable and continue to make the games.

I've always considered myself someone who liked Sony and Nintendo, having owned a PS1, N64, PS2, GCN, PSP, DS, Wii, PS3, 3DS, and PS4, though in the past four years I've grown more PC-oriented in my gaming focus. Never owned any iteration of the Xbox line, though I wish Xbros no ill will. I just always found Sony and Nintendo exclusives more appealing to my own preferences than Gears of Halo ever had to offer. Only thing really holding me off from getting a WiiU at this point is the ever looming NX dropping in 1 to 2 years (though there's no guarantee it'll even be backwards compatible).

According to Steamspy, MGR sold ~500k WORLDWIDE at a maximum price of $30 (most through sales though).
According to Famitsu, MGR sold ~400k physical copies on the PS3 in JAPAN alone, at $60. Based on the sales of other MGS games, it's safe to say that it sold at least twice this number in the west.
In other words, for each discounted PC copy of the game, Konami sold 3 full priced copies on the consoles, and if you look at their quarterly fiscal reports consoles do in fact make the most of their gaming profits. PC barely even gets mentioned.
There is a reason PC ports are shitty and delayed.
