>what's happening?
something fuckery is happening with steam. You get logged into random people's account

>why is that bad?
you can see private email, transaction history, payment history, Paypal and credit cards numbers (not all of them)...

>am i fugged?
maybe, Valve is working on it and store is closed

You can even buy thing on other peoples' accounts, if they have wallet money.
>>

>>
Both totalbiscuit and angry joe are extremely upset about this.

Sources say a class action lawsuit against valve software has been set in motion. This is the largest security breach in the 20th century

>>321463701
just fucking lurk around

the tl;dr is:

1. team started shitting itself, revealing user data to random users
2. valve took a lot of time to react
3. a lot of accounts are now compromised
4. GabeN came forward with a statement that he is resigning as CEO/Owner of Valve

that's all we know so far
>>

>>321463581
you're perfectly safe if you didn't log in at all for the fuckup

and they simply pulled the plug on the servers, so just check your transaction log, change your password when shit comes back up, and move on

So is there any hard proof of people losing money or what

I'm a bit nervous but if someone saw my email (2-step verificatio non it anyways), phone number, address, or last four digits of my card info I... don't really care, there's not much they can do with that
>>
>>321463889
Heh, earlier today some guy said that for some reason Steam was showing him admin controls on the steam store and he flushed something.

I wonder if that was when it started.
>>
>>321465743

Nothing actually happened.

The "proof" was just fags posting HTML edits to stir up flamewars. At most, it was a simple pile of cache errors that happens when servers come under heavy load, which is wont to happen on a day when shitloads of people are attempting to redeem gift cards.
>>
How about an actual steam sale as an apology you fucking assholes.
>>
>>321467008
>doesn't even have changing backgrounds
Worst Steam sale ever

>>
>>321463787
Wow can i be your friend?
>>
all of my tf2 hats and weapons are gone. stopped playing a year ago but account is fucked at the moment.
>>
>>321465743

As far as I understand it, this is pretty much the case. I don't even know if they can buy stuff on your account or not.
>>
uh oh someone might have the last 2 digits of my card, I'm fucked now
>>
>>321467204
If you're not paranoid about this then you're not doing your job well enough. These problems happen very frequently.

The US really needs cybersecurity laws to punish organizations that don't take sufficient steps to secure their user's information. Too many organizations store user information in plaintext or with weak encryption(passwords should not be encrypted), or if they use hashes for passwords(good) they use weak algorithms(bad), no salt(really bad), or they use too few passes(really really bad).

UPDATE 3 (8:25pm): Valve has finally commented on today’s events, sending a statement to Kotaku this evening:
Steam is back up and running without any known issues. As a result of a configuration change earlier today, a caching issue allowed some users to randomly see pages generated for other users for a period of less than an hour. This issue has since been resolved. We believe no unauthorized actions were allowed on accounts beyond the viewing of cached page information and no additional action is required by users.

Y/N?
>>
>>321468639
No never again CONSOLE MASTER RACE
>>
Apparently nobody was ever able to buy things with others accounts directly, the purchase would go through their own accounts
>>
>>321468832
yeah cause sony and microsoft havent had their shit hacked and peoples personal info leaked right?
>>
>>321468639
Never again, they'll find where you live and rape you
>>
At least this marks the end of "le master race" giving sony and ms shit about details...
>>
>>321469686
Except not because details weren't leaked en masse. Only a few full names if someone who happened to get a fucked up cache decide to look at their contact info.

No full bank info leaked
>>
>>321470854
We'll have to wait until the extent is fully known
