Yeah, an apology from gabe in a news article, have fun.
There is currently a MAJOR security breach on steam, Steam's databases have run into some problems caused by unknown factors, when logging on there is a high chance of not getting into your own account, as well as issues with steam thinking you are somebody else.
The easiest way to see this is if the language suddenly changes on your steam client.
****It is important that you stay LOGGED IN as long as this problem is ongoing to ensure nobody else accidentally hijacks your account. As they can use your account to make purchases etc with your info.*****
>you need to set up steam guard to protect your account!
>you need to give us your phone number to protect your account!
>make sure to change your password every 2 months to protect your account!
>never give away any sensitive information to people in chat to protect your account!
>don't click on suspicious links to protect your account!
>whoops we accidentally fucked up on our end and compromised your account
Every fucking time. All these fucking protections aren't worth jack shit if the service itself has weak-ass security and incompetent programmers.
This is kinda cool. Steam has collectively shit the bed.
>>321433758

The cause of the behavior probably isn't a security breach, it's caching gone rogue. However, once you've (through no fault of your own) convinced steam that you're someone else because you got their cached page, it is effectively a security breach because now you're in someone else's account

Depends how old this cache is. But realistically if you haven't bought anything in the last 24 hours you should be good.
More worrisome though is now people may know your name/email/address even if they don't have your credit card which is enough to start social engineering other things.
This is a HUGE fuckup by Valve.

Security breach typically implies someone got through Valve's security and is deliberately causing this to occur. That (so far) doesn't appear to be the case. On the other hand, what the (likely) cache glitch is creating is hundreds of thousands of individual security breaches on Steam and anywhere else people want to be malicious now that they have a bunch of personal information that leaked through this.

I HAVE A STEAM ACCOUNT AND I DON'T
I got access to admin, I clicked the performance but it showed like data codes or like the accessibility of the site or whatever. I'm not tech guy so I just ignored it and clicked off. I mistook it for a new feature because I enabled steam guard right before the site started acting up
Steam doesn't actually save your card info if you check that box, right? Just your address?
Pretty sure I'm paranoid enough to not click a box that saves my info, but I just wish I could check

if you attempt to change the CC info on someone elses account you can get access to full names, addresses, and telephone numbers. but thankfully no CC info.
If you attempt to reset your password it instead sends the link to whoever's account you happened to stumble upon at that moment. I've gotten at least 5 different emails since this started requesting a password reset. I presume it's mostly people scared and trying to secure their accounts instead of actually attempting to compromise mine.
That's literally all you need to get an account back from steam after it's been lost or stolen. Name, Address/Phone Number, Email, and last 4 digits of the CC tied to the account (which is easily available in the cached pages)
People are telling you not to give a shit, when really you need to give a shit.

This. This, you fucking fear mongers. By default you get an email whenever you make a transaction on Steam, whether directly through wallet, CC, paypal or whatever. If someone's been diddling with your account you would be getting emails about it.

You ever buy a game on steam? If so they can see your purchase history's last 4 digits of the card. Plenty to get the rest of the info with your full name and address. This is probably the biggest security breach of ALL time.

>>321439475
No nigger. Being logged in puts you at risk.
Having an active session = at risk.
Gotta stay calm. Keep your account open, if you haven't logged in do so now. If you cannot log in, keep trying. If you get random account, log out and try again until you leap home. Try not to panic. Try not to panic. Try not to panic. You used a gift card for steam last time. You'll be fine, right? You didn't save your information. You'll be fine. Valve will make everything right when they fix it, or they'll tell you to lol get fucked and nothing will happen to them except a large portion of their userbase gets miffed. If they fuck you, swear you'll never use them again. I won't. I'm not sure I should now. I don't even use steam for much. Fuck.
