And despite the ridiculously-sounding premise (protagonist crossdressing to join women-only Shinsengumi), it's very serious and depicts the struggle during bakumatsu period well. All sides are given scenes and you everyone reflects on their actions. Protagonist is also swept fast by the situation and has to become ruthless.
I really liked the trial, so I preordered and now got it.

Well Shinsengumi is somewhat of a staple in Japanese fiction (Yakuza Ishin uses it too for example), but I don't think I saw a women-only one yet.
And in the end execution matters more and this is executed very well. The writer even uses period-accurate Japanese, which makes it relatively hard to read.
