>Please accept my apologies for the delay in beginning this afternoon, well just one year ago we stood before you and unveiled our plans for oculus rift for the first time, and the impact was immediate. CV1 is meant to be the companion device in your basement, flexible enough to sustain many years of GPU advancements, its an arsenal of media compatability with seamless access to SFW and NSFW content through a social media environment, It seemlessly interacts with facebook, and finally Oculus rift is the best agreed VR platform, and make no mistake, Oculus rift is the most ambitious project we at Oculus have ever undertaken in our very short history. It requires huge financial investment and commitment, but we must take risks to reap the rewards. And we are not about cutting corners to rush a product to market, and we are certainly not interested in gimmicks, clever rhetoric or conventional thinking. As we gear up for the November's launch we are excited to share with you the phenomenal progress we've made in just a year's time, but before we go any further I'd like to take a step back for a moment, we're all well aware that we would not be able to achieve greatness on oculus rift without a strong foundation and one of the foundations for us is DK2. We introduced a new controller that seamlessly integrates innovation of free movement with the defacto industry standard game controller from oculus. A-a-and before we close our presentation for today, I did want to share with you some information that may be of interest to at least some of you, today we are pleased to announce the global Oculus rift launch details, we will make oculus rift available via a two configuration plan one with an xbox controller, and the other with oculus touch. in north america, the oculus rift will be avaible at retail on November seventeenth 2016, the oculus rift will retail for 599 US Dollars.

Fake and gay but it is actually going to be around that price, Palmer tweeted a bunch of preemptive damage control saying that this shit is going to cost a lot more than people expect.

The few short demos currently on the Rift show more innovation than literally every game on Xbone, PS4 and Wii U put together. Gamers won't stop bitching about yearly rehashes, yet they keep buying these expensive systems just so they can continue to buy yearly rehashes. Then something new comes along, something which actually shows promise, and everyone laughs it off because of the price. A price which they were willing to pay for an underpowered console and a library of rubbish games.

As someone who has both a DK2 and a Vive and has actually seen the potential these things have, I will be completely done with gaming if VR fails. I can't stomach another Assassin's Creed, Batman, Call of Duty, Halo, JRPG, Pokemon or Hollywoodized open-world game. I need something new, but the rest of you dumb-shit gamers are drooling over last year's leftovers. Fuck you all.

innovation?

I owned a dk2, and personally all I've seen are baby-step uses of new tech.

Its not going to "fail", only /v/ and retards thinks it needs to go super-mainstream straight away, and only neo/v/ thinks that would be a good thing.

Vidya was good before it went mainstream, not after.

Also this is the biggest poorfag thread I've seen in my life, I barely earn $800 in a month in my glorious third world, and yet you people are outraged at such a price?
>>
If there's anything I've learned about techs, especially in regards to PC components and gaming tech, it's that you always wait for the first initial wave to pass, and watch the first wave buyer's reactions.

I never buy shit right away. I wait. Either for the cheaper second version, or for the price to go down.

wait a year and watch that price get slashed in half, this isn't anything to be worried about. people who have that much disposable cash will buy it at 600 for the status of having one that early, but most sensible people will wait a couple months until some of those people resell the item at a more reasonable price.

This is what happens when a corporation takes hold of something.

Practical cost-effectiveness goes out the door for the sake of their own idea of quality. I would imagine a lot of the cost is thanks to their stupid software bloat they wanna push it with.

/r/cuckulus are such drones, they're trying to rationalize the fact that OR is going to be a lot more than the $350-$400 they originally promised

>TL;DR: If the Rift really does come in a couple of hundred bucks over what we'd like, are we really going to walk away? I'm not. And I'll challenge you to pound on the F5 key faster than me, waiting for that pre-order page to open.

>Hell, I paid 800 bucks for a tv last month and that shit won't take me to space, provide me the experience of racing, or sex.
jerking off with a monitor strapped to your face is totally like sex! literally sends you to space!

>I would pay 3k or more for a Rift if it would cost that. It's a personal teleporter. It's the first real consumer iteration of the final medium, made of equal measures of technology and magic. It will literally allow us to become godlike in a virtual world.

So when Oculus finally do announce that the rift costs $600-$650 remember their lies and don't be a facebook cuck.

The deal is they aren't actually expecting mass market, only /v/ expects that. They're actually expecting only 1 million over the total life of the headset which is easily obtainable given their devkit sales. It's an expensive bleeding edge peripheral for people already willing to shell out a lot of money. I wouldn't be surprised if their major purchasers are actually businesses not gamers.

I have 2 R9 290s in crossfire with a 8350 overclocked to 5ghz.

I can run GTA 5 with tweaking with almost everything turned to ultra at 4k and still manage a stable 60fps.

Less than 4k and maybe turning down a few CPU intensive settings would make what you deem impossible without Titans possible.

Titans are honestly not that great and really not worth the extra cash for a meager return in performance.

Also to make the price of this damn thing worse it costs more than both my R9-290s combined.

LOLNO, single display Vs. duals. No interpupilary adjustment on PSVR AFAWK, and the cost cutting one size fits all design will by necessity have a lot of the already very limited 960x1080 resolution disused and out of view. It's physically impossible to create optics that will accommodate a +/- 7 or 8mm spread that's inside/outside "average" 64mm eye width. It's not an accident or happenstance Oculus and Valve both wound up using 2 screens. Sony are designing a cheap mass market headset, not necessarily the highest quality.

>>
Oculus will be around $450-550 for the most expensive configuration (with full motion controllers and external camera), $300 for the barebones. They're not total idiots to have fucked up their projections that poorly.

VIVE will possibly be as high as $1000, but mo0uch more likely in the $600 range. They will only offer one configuration which will have everything. There is also the possibility of significant (as in, meaningful, not simple tech demo type stuff) software freebies/pack-ins.

VIVE will win on build quality and performance but may have slightly less volume of software available for the first year, especially if Facebook decides to pursue exclusivity (which is the latent 'nuclear option' underneath the two camps seemingly friendly competition).

A PC is expensive enough as is , don't let the Reddit/prebuilt meme faggots tell you other wise , you want to game you will drop a dime or two .

If these VRs expect to sell millions they need to focus more on optimization and cost . So far it takes a 970 iirc to run some things on okay frame rate using oculus and other , 60fps requires a even greater deal of power which makes it worse for the average consumer
No shit right ?

How are they expecting this to succeed outside of enterprise ?
