Let's have a Underrail thread.
Just found this, is there even a way to pump STR that high to use this lump of metal?
Also fucked this guy up with a single cut throat crit of my 9-19 kukri, feels like david beating goliath.
Dump every str point you get every 4 levels into str and start with 10 str
What the fuck? the stats of the hammer arent even that impressive
who the hell would go and pump all those points in STR just for this piece of crap
>>321395570
>10% more damage for each point of str over 8
>requires 20 str
how does that NOT sound good?
/vg/ thread when?
Also what are all the ways you can buff your stealth up without spending feats/points? I've created ninja tabi boots, black cloth leather armor, black cloth balaclava and cloaking device which all together buff my stealth up to 95 from zero. Is there anything I'm missing? Gloves? Some belt? Some melee weapon that buffs stealth?
>>321393694
Can you even get 20 strength? 10 is the max when you start, and you can only get 6 extra points from levels.
>>321395737
Oh yeah, I missed that
Anyway I guess you can still use it without meeting the requirements? Or are the penalties so high its gonna be completely unusable?
>>321395570
It's 165-330 dmg at str 20.
>>321395827
You can also use drugs + st boosting equipment + food
I wish completeing quests for merchants granted some better trading with them. Or if you gave them a good deal they would return the favor somehow.
I wish buying all that junk off that overencumbered dude in Core actually did anything.
Man, this game.
You can join the Tchortists?
>melee / psi build
>sell all ammo and guns
literally swimming in money, i've got six 999 stacks of stygian coins
>>321393694
How do I not get my shit wrecked by those bandits after leaving the SGS?
>>321396138
what bandits
>>321396203
The ones who try to take the package from you (if you're doing the main quest, they're on the way towards the GSM).
The guy with the sledgehammer just hands my ass to me on a plate after 2 turns.
>>321396276
if you cant fight them yet then dont go there yet
anyway whats your build? even if you have zero throwing you should always carry a few grenades to save your ass
>>321396276
What package? Who gives you the quest? I already did GSM and never had a quest about a package or encountered any bandits.
>>321396365
jack quicksilver, the shady guy at the cantina
>>321396351
Just going with a standard gunslinger build. I don't really have any idea what I'm doing, but sticking with the 5mm pistol and popping at everything I see has been working pretty well up until now. Guess I'll go buy some grenades and see how that turns out though.
How good are crossbows?
was thinking of a crossbow/daggers sneaky assassin
Why does everyone call you jack?
>>321393694
Question. How to kill faceless with knives? I'm at railroad crossing and the sentry guy at the shop has his back to the wall so I can't cut-throat him. I'll probably sneak around the back but still.
Man, I don't get this game. It has a "sound" system and yet the only way to make a sound out of combat is by throwing a grenade.
Just started. dumped my points into dex agi and per and planning to go submachine guns or something but it doesnt look like theres much variety in guns. Should I remake and try melee psi build? The doctor mentioned something about unarmed psi powers and that sounds pretty rad
>>321396998
Is it just a single guy?
If so try to aggro him from a distance so he moves towards you, throw a flashbang and rehide.
Then nothin personnel him.
>>321397248
There's a robot patrolling nearby.
Why can't I just toss a coin or something :c
I need fabric to create a balaclava and I assumed that fabric scraps were the same thing, but are these two different items or something? I haven't come across "fabric" anywhere.
>>321396276
Throw a net over the fucker.
>>321397184
psychokinesis / melee can be powerful as fuck and psi generally has all the fun things like force fields and mind control
absolutely go for it you're missing out
>>321397389
trader at engineering/psionics in SGS usually stocks black cloth, good for stealth
you can also make a balaclava from kevlar for bullet stopping, at this point of the game you'll find it at junkyard (im assuming you havent done the drill part quest yet)
The only problem i have with this game is hard level cap.
Like what the fuck, it's a singleplayer game.
Do you need to put points into throwing before you can throw grenades? I can't seem to lob any, and I'm not entirely sure why.
>>321398240
yes
>>321398240
Have you put them in your toolbelt?
>>321398316
I thought that might be the case, but it doesn't explicitly say that anywhere as far as I can see.
How many factions there even is?
Will joining tchortists forbid me from helping protectorate?
How should I build a melee psi?
>>321398516
>How should I build a melee psi?
by making an unarmed/unarmed weapon build instead
FUCK CRAWLERS.
This is how NPCs feel when they get stealthed.
Flairs don't work because they are on the ceiling apparently.
UnderTale ripoff?
Already?
>>321398516
The basic outline is DEX-based melee and psychokinesis, how you flavor it is up to you.
It might be worth trying with a STR build too though.

>>321398316
Wait, you need to put points into throwing to even be able to throw grenades? How many points do you need?
>>321399210
Not really. Just put them in your toolbelt. The two top top left spots in inventory.
>>321399210
no you dont
just equip nades in your utility slots
>>321399210
yes, you need points to *throw* the grenade, with 0 skill it has 100% to land in the square right beside you though.
>>321393694
Shall I get this? I mean obviously you'll say yes but are there skill checks and the like in the style of FO2 or NV. That's always a big selling point for me
>>321399398
Only skill checks as far as talking skills and its pretty straight forward.
>>321399378
completely false
distance theblast radius few squares away from yourself and you wont suffer any dmg when with zero skill. I do that shit all the time.
>>321398985
try harder
>>321399490
Eh, I guess that's not too bad. I'll look some more into it
Some parts of the map have "rocks" on them, can you blow these up to reveal other areas or something?
>>321399762
yes, after you've done the junkyard mission for tanner you can buy tnt charges from the armory
>>321395960
Yes.
Is Unarmed based on Dex or Strength? I want to make a heavy armoured psi-boxer.
>>321399906
Or to save money you can visit foundry and buy a jackhammer.
should i switch my SGS credit to coins in the station before i head out or i should keep them?
Merchants are really fussy in this game about what they'll buy from you. I have hobble around to half a dozen people just to sell my stuff.
>>321400547
just start dropping shit/not looting everything you see. you always end up with way more money than you need.
>underrail is 6% off
Thanks, Santa.
>>321400043
I think that dex psi fist build is better than a str one.
Dex is an incredibly useful stat. It gives you lockpick boost, it rises your initiative which is really good. Str allows you to get more damage from force abilities but unless you go over 10 str the damage boost will be pretty small, almost laughable.
As for armors, you want a tactical vest or riot gear because they can use psi beetle carapaces.
Any tips for these fucking crawlers?
How come flares aren't working?
>play few hours
>make new char
>repeat
I'm so bad at this.
I just want a good build.
I'm up to the part where you've gotta get the drill parts. I'm at the northern depot and mutants are fucking ruining me
I'm full metathermics + crafting
If I finish off the Eels story will they all fuck off or is there something I'm missing?
>>321400909
minmax and feat synergy friend.
>>321401085
I do min max but i can't find a fun build
>>321400931
If you're heavy into crafting, make a leather suit from acid dogs. It protects against acid pools and shit.
>>321401339
>didn't put any points into chem because no throwing
fuuuuck
>>321401478
As a substitute, go into the caves near the entrance to junkyard and look for frog creatures.
Their hide has acid resist too, only not as strong.
Is there any way to disable the bots in the GSM, or is basically either fight or sneak?
Best music in game? I say DropZone
>>321401969
fight or sneak, unfortunately
if you really have a hard time killing them go craft / buy a vest or riot gear with 200% resistance to bullets
>>321402254
I'm not having too hard a time sneaking around in the vents, it's just there's lots of loot and shit that's hard to get without the bots jumping you.
wich one is the best Junkyard Gang?

>>321400310
Coins are accepted everywhere, credits only in SGS controlled areas, what do you think?
>>321402317
protip: bots cant open doors
try to time your movement so the bots will be far away and rush to the room you wanna loot and close the door behind you

Do they really do this?
Psi build stats and skills please
>>321402458
/EEL4LYFE/
>>321402317
Balaclava and Rathound Leather Overcoat is enough to make 0 stealth investment char near invisible to bots. I still decided to blow them up for loot and oddities though. You should be able to find some emp and buy/make he grenades.
>>321402643
i've been having fun so far:
ST 5
DEX 8
AGI 3
CON 3
PE 3
IN 8
WILL 10
for starting feats i took nimble (-15% armor penalty) and snooping (+3 to pe for secret detection purposes, sometimes find nice loot and find more oddities so bit faster to level with the oddity system, you could pick something useful for combat though like expertise)
then i dump all points to melee, psychokinetics, thought control, hacking, lockpicking, electronics, tailoring, some biology and mechanics, and personally I also boost my intimidation and persuasion since I actually care about the lore (used rarely though)
then i pick psi / unarmed melee boosting feats and boost my st and dex every four levels
>mfw got high as a kite after smoking some shit in lower levels of core city
I use a sniperbuild and my pistol does literally no dmg against psi beetles.
>>321403208
Fuckers have a thick shell. They're deaf and blind though, easy enough to avoid.
>>321403406
But i have to help newton.
Only 7% off on sale? The fuck is this bullshit.
>>321403208
Use any melee, it causes them to try to put distance between you and also exposes their brain, letting you do bonus damage while it's out in the open.
>>321403578
It only just came out.
>>321403457
7.62mm pistol with aimed shot should do the trick. And yeah, never fight more than one at once and get as near to them so they don't use psi attacks more than once a turn.
>>321393694
>The name's Adahn

>>321403603
My melee is pure shit and i need like 6 turns to kill 1

Yeah but a whole SEVEN PERCENT? Even other games that came out were generous enough to at least do ten percent. For what purpose was 7 chosen specifically as the number?
>>321403892
It should be 10 but steam fucked up lol
>>321404025
Sounds about right, Steam always fucks up something during the sales. You'd think Valve would be good at getting shit right every sale by now.
it's 10% off on gog and styg mentioned somewhere it's supposed to be 10% on steam also but somewhere along the line with steam it got fucked up

I'm very much interested in this game. Can my brick of a laptop run it?
Also, is this like STALKER x METRO x FALLOUT or is it more like Wasteland 2?
One thing I really love about the game is lightning effects and dynamic backgrounds on portraits. What I hate is that NPCs have same portraits as you.
I wonder if someone made custom ones and uploaded them somewhere like for Wasteland 2.
>>321405063
Will run fine

>>321405063

yeah you could probably run the game if it was 10 times heavier
pretty much anything goes as long as you have a dual core cpu

Thats what I like about this game, there are monsters out there that are tough not because of pure damage. But because of what they can fucking do to you.
Crawlers are the first monster I've experienced where stealth game play is used against the player well.

>Tfw your head hurts from reading that font ;_;
Does riot gear get the full benefit from armor sloping if you make a steel shield with it?

Wish there was a flame thrower in this fucking game. Fire is the best thing against them if your lucky enough to reveal them with your throw.
I think they actually DO walk among another Z-level. Or they sorta stay in a certain radius away until their stun poison skill is ready.
>>321406853
>Wish there was a flame thrower in this fucking game
There is, it's a psi ability though.

STR is pretty noteworthy because you get to double dip on your damage bonus, getting both stronger melee and psi from one stat, but overall I think the feat synergy is worse than DEX unless being able to tank up makes up for it.
>>321408034
Damn, that large number scares me.
But since I'm a mind rapist I should be kinda okay.
just bug reporting : if you break stealth using a burst, the burst will stop after one shot and consume your AP.

>>321408108
>But since I'm a mind rapist I should be kinda okay
If you won't get the first turn, you won't.
And since Carnifex has 29 fucking initiative it's pretty unlikely to act first, if not impossible on low AGI/DEX builds.

>>321408614
You sure you are not wearing anything with heavy armor penalty?
Also, things like the sight line, distance and lighting affect sneaking as well.
>>321408749
That would make sense if combat mode didn't deactivate automatically.
>>321408758
Right now I only have an armor penalty of 5% because of the nimble perk. Does it effect sneak that much?
>get to the old junkyard
>have mechanics, tailoring, and electronics, desperately need mats to replace shitty rathound gear

Sniper build is pretty great.
>Reaper rifle (+25 crit damage)
>Anatomically-Aware Scope (+50% critical damage bonus)
>Sharpshooter feat (+30 crit damage)
Pair that with Aimed Shot, and you get a massive crit every 3 turns.
Right now I don't have a crafted Reaper, but a store bought one is pretty much one-shotting everything so far. It even takes out tougher shielded enemies in 2-3 hits.
Also I think goggles have a crit damage bonus too, but so far I've been using the crit chance type.

>>321412051
>>321411915
Yes, Yes
My only gripe about this game is that I wish it showed you the real "chance to hit"
This is one of those games where you have 95 chance to hit, and you miss 3-4 times in a row. Not just one time, but all the time. Meanwhile, your 35% chance to hit grenades almost always land on target.
It seems to give you the initial chance to hit, but then applies the penalties from darkness, enemy evasion etc after its displayed.
>>321412264
>Meanwhile, your 35% chance to hit grenades almost always land on target.
Not really, it's likely to hit nearby tiles, you just don't see the difference because they have a large explosion radius.
>>321393694
Is it possible that this game has rng items?
>>321412264
Even a 99% chance to hit means you could miss 100 shots in a row. Our brains want to believe that anything above 75% means 100%, and when it doesn't, it seems like bullshit. Though I know that feeling, bro. X-Com was the worst offender in this thing.
>>321413002
>Our brains want to believe that anything above 75% means 100%,
source for this claim?
How good is this shield for level 12?
It's the only one I've gotten, so no reference point.
>>321412728
Yeah you're right. I think its within 3 tiles or something. But regardless, when I throw a molotov close quarters, the fire damage usually lands one tile off from where i'm standing, as planned.
>>321413002
Thats true; in practice it seems like the real hit chance is 60/40 when you're given 95%
>>321395743
I think that's it. I've not seen any other gear than increases it.
Soft padding can also be added to leather armour for a smaller bonus than black cloth
Underrail looks like a fun game, but is there any reason to pick this up if one can just replay Fallout 1/2?

Is it normal to feel pretty underpowered going guns?
I swear, every other NPC seems to have way better weapons and gear, way better chance to hit me, and do way more damage.
I invest my points into gun related stats, grabbed good gear and still get my shit kicked in.
I feel I could get more done going Psionics or Melee than guns, it just feels weaker and more of a hassle compared to other options.

>Crossbows can be very powerful but their power is not in pure damage, it is in crowd control/debuffs. Use shock/fire/tranquilizer bolts to stun enemies or set them on fire, and they won't be shooting back at you. Combine crossbows with bear traps and stealth to immobilize melee foes while you shoot them from afar. Opportunist is a great early feat for a crossbow user which will increase the power of your shots against almost all crowd-controlled foes. Take a look at all of the crossbow, stealth, and trap feats and think about how they combine.
>For enemies with thick armor, try acid or shock bolts to do non-mechanical damage, or just pull out a HE grenade.

Yeah.
I fucked them up good 1vs1 thanks to having multiple stun abilities.
Is it just me, or is the writing in this game rather bad? I know it was translated and written by amateurs, but without solid writing how can this compare with Fallout? I didn't play Fallout 1 & 2 because the combat system was fun... I played it because the game was immersive and had depth.

Crossbows are a long range weapon that need you to pump PER.
Knives are close range melee and need you to pump their main stat (DEX) like no other weapon because of the crazy bonuses they get.
Going knife+crossbow is dumb.
If you want knife+ranged go with pistols.
Pistols also benefit from DEX, they are nicely build for crits just like knives and have a great close range feat that can use the incapacitate debuff procs knives give you from the Cheap Shots feat.
Crossbows + traps are insane too, bear trap abuse with Quick Tinkering never gets old.

Writing isn't any worse than Fallout's. In some ways it's better because the focus was more on making the locations plausible than the dialogue.

that's for roleplaying purposes, ie making you fulfill a specific role given the limitations. also as a powerplayer in every pen&paper, if they didn't put caps min maxing wouldn't be as fun.

str psi is legit u absolutely shrek people with the telekenitic fist and if u get in close but this true for all melee builds. But build only shines at like level 14 when you get locust of control and proxy psi. After 11 str I went int to get my crafting up and feats like expose weakness.

>>321416317
I'm American actually.
Fallout feels more goofy and silly while there's more little touches in Underrail to make the environments seem plausible. People talk to you in a somewhat realistic manner as well not "Oh this right here's Fucktown, we were established in 1992 when blah blah blah" It's like "Yeah this is Fucktown. Fuck off and bother someone else I'm fishing, retard"

How are the chemical weapons? Do they trigger contamination debuff?
How do I kill burrowers? I am a mix of stealth/melee/Psi, and while I can kill usually any number of spawn, the burrowers themselves just have so much damage, as well as the fact you can never aggro just one, since it always aggros everyone of them on the map. I skipped the GMS compound nest, but now I am skulking around inside the one between SMS and Junkyard, and I just cannot imagine it is supposed to be this difficult. Any help or do I need to git gud? =(
>>321418172
Why do you want to fight them? Just use the vents.
Personally i just planted some traps and let them kill themselves, i had a shitton of them after striping Depot A from it's minefields.
I'm only up to the GSM mission, but it's great so far.
It feels too much like a Fallout 2 expansion pack though. A few environment models are copied wholesale, which was initially a cute reference but then it became clear the whole game is a love-letter to Black Isle Studios.
It's Fallout 2 but you can throw fireballs at people, still 10/10 in my book.
>>321418464
I don't, but they usually are blocking paths I can see go farther back, and I cannot sneak past them. Muh oddities. Guess I should just level up some more and come back with mines.
>>321398240
I can't throw anything either. Put ten points into the skill and have grenades and net in the utility belt, but the background to the icon is red and you can't throw shit.

>Muh oddities
but why
Want to play Psi, but I can't figure out how to play Psi, get a crafting skill, get a secondary damage option, AND cover utility stuff like hacking, pockpicking and persuasion.
Its bumming me out.
Shit, anyone got any tips for dealing with those last 3 raiders in the GSM? I haven't had any trouble up until now, but those guys are shreking my shit.
Is there any way to get them in front of the turret? It annoys me that you can't activate it in combat.
Somebody help me out with something.
Here's the character I'm thinking of making.
Str 3
Dex 3
Agi 6
Con 3

Wil 10
Int 10
Hacking
Biology
Tailoring
Thought Control
Persuasion
Intimidation
Mercantile
(Spare 15 points for something else)
Feats:
Doctor
Snooping
First of all, is it fine to play with only 1 Psi branch? I really don't want to take them all.
Second, and the reason I came looking for an underrail thread actually. Is the 5 Perception + snooping feat enough for me to find the majority of secret areas? Are secret areas worth it?
Finally, what should my last skill be? Dodging/Evasion? Stealth? Something else?
Please respond asap because I've been on this goddamn character creation screen for 2 hours.Jesus christ, I must be autistic as fuck. Send help.

Sounds like lot of you guys are not using shields you should after junkyard or u playing the game on super hard mode. It makes enemies like burrowers useless and exploding spiders not dangerous at all.
>>321420082
I've got 9 PER plus snooping and so far it's been shit. So far I've found one actually useful hidden passage and one secret vendor that never has stuff I want (or that you'd want either) and is never buying anything I have. I'd skip it.
I think this game would be improved by a map that your character makes as you travel.
Hell, I'd buy an ingame sketch pad and paper that I had to fill in room by room that worked as an inventory item.

Throw away intimidation and mercantile, they are useless.
1 psi branch on full psi build is NOT okay, take them all.
I regret taking snooping, almost nothing so far.
Take dex at least to 5 to have lock picking or you will miss a metric fuckton of shit.
Don't rise biology too high in the beginning, just enough to make basic things, you will need advanced ingredients for really advanced shit.
how viable is a pure psi caster?
i was playing a melee psi character, but i found myself using my melee very rarely and i think i should save these points for something else.

>>321422474
You really shouldn't use very light armor on a psi build as vests give you psi beetle boosts so evasion and dodge are useless, you will always be around 40-50 equip load or higher.
Honestly, aside from dex i don't see any stats synergising with pure psi well. Sure, you can just vitgouge by taking constitution to like 8, but that's boring and not that necessary. High dex is good psi fist damage and ap cost + high initiative + great lockpicking skill scale.
>>321422886
>You really shouldn't use very light armor on a psi build as vests give you psi beetle boosts so evasion and dodge are useless, you will always be around 40-50 equip load or higher.

>228 damage on psychokinetic punch with 3 str on level 14
>it's doubled with proxy
You won't get any good damage boost from str synergy unless you go full autist 10 STR and it will hurt your build more than 25% psychokinetic damage boost will help you. And you don't need STR to wreck everything with it.
>>321421484
>you really need dodge and evasion unless you're a heavy armor juggernaut type of nigger
Not really, if you play stealth and focus on alpha strikes and controlling the field with traps you are fine without dodge/evasion.
If anyone actually manages to damage you your shield will take care of that.
Dodge and evasion are a massive skill point sink since they are an all or nothing deal and with how exploration and crafting focused the game is you need those skill points badly for hacking, lock picking and crafting skills.
As a side not i fucking love quick tinkering
>traps root enemies for 3 turns
>quick tinkering gives you a zero AP trap every 2 turns
It's like a magic spell that makes all melee enemies disappear and if you find a doorway it autowins the battle for you.
And crawlers are a joke thanks to it, want to sting me and fuck off to the ceiling? Too bad, eat a fucking bear trap instead faggot.

Place it on your toolbar - You can do that with ammo, too, and right click things that are there to swap their function. This'll be essential if you run into a Utility Bot controller, as well
>>321418091
Acid has a chance to trap with DoT, flame has a chance to DoT, and I wanna say chance to Fear, and cryo can drain their move points, also with a feat, do slather the enemy in a damage boosting debuff.
I personally find chem pistols REALLY underwhelming - Real ammo guns have much higher potential from the crafting, is a lot more consistent, and readilly available, and chem pistols dont have scopes or anything like that.
>evelyn's quest
Is there a way to reduce energy drain on weaponry, armor & equipment?
Also, when crafting gear, should I aim for a higher flat DR or % Reduction?
The explanation said something about whichever is higher, Higher according to what? The damage beyond a specific threshold?
I,e something does 200 Dmg, instead of trying to hack off a piddly 20pts it instead tries to remove the 15% DR value instead?
>walking through lower core city
It's like Protectorate borders curve around them.
>>321424595
Yes, 15% would be 30 points which is higher than the 20 DT. So you'd take 30 points less damage.
>>321424595
I dont know if I'm right, but my instinct is that its like TOME4's Armor Hardiness - You can block up to x% of damage up to point amount. Or is it raw percent and raw point reduction? I'm not sure how I'd test it
>>321424595
>Is there a way to reduce energy drain on weaponry, armor & equipment?
No, it's only going to get higher with some things the better the quality.
All you can do is get better power cores and a feat for more capacity and start using fusion cores.
>Also, when crafting gear, should I aim for a higher flat DR or % Reduction?
Depends.
DR is great against fast but low damage weapons like SMGs, pistols and such.
% reduction is better against heavy hitters like sniper rifles.
>The explanation said something about whichever is higher, Higher according to what? The damage beyond a specific threshold?
Whichever value would be higher.
Lets say you have a weapon with 1 DT and 1% DR.
If you get hit by 1 damage, obviously DT is going to offer higher reduction.
If you get hit by 10000000000000000000 damage, DR is going to be higher.
>I,e something does 200 Dmg, instead of trying to hack off a piddly 20pts it instead tries to remove the 15% DR value instead?
Yes.
>>321425106
>Lets say you have a weapon
Meant armor, obviously.
>>321424595
If armor has X%/Y stats then it blocks either X% of damage or Y flat points of damage, whichever is higher and never both.
So if some fucker hits you with 500 damage it will be reduced by X%.
If a retard with fists punches you really fast doing 5 damage every time then it will be reduced by a flat Y amount.
Should I buy this?
I have to admit, it caught me off guard.
Clever.

>>321433934
Projectile psi never missing really pisses me off
>>321433463
>>321433934
To be fair, as a melee character you get to make like 20 attacks in a turn with multiple passive disable procs that make further hits 95% accurate, while a ranged character gets to make like 5.
>>321434624
In an ideal scenario, you can be doing swings for 4 AP a shot - And if you build for it, each of those swings can apply AP drain, damage boosting debuffs, bleeds, its crazy. Twelve swings a turn with the bonus from Effusion and Proxy is crazygood.
I'm seriously starting to think its the broken build of the game.

I fire 35 bullets per turn with my ranged build, don't know what you are smoking.
So I'm looking to try this out and I've got a question about the alternate XP system. It sounds like an interesting concept, having to do quests and explore for XP rather than just grinding like every other RPG, but would that system also gimp me? I mean, is the amount of XP you get through oddities more or less than what you'd get with the regular system? Because I admit I'm kind of a casual, and if that makes the game an extra challenge, I'm not sure I'd be up to it.
What's the optimal build for preventing my steam account from being hacked?
>>321435108
It absolutely can be - Oppourtunistic Attack can proc on every bullet in a burst, and you can apply lots of debuffs via psi.
>>321435291
You'll get more via the 'standard' RPG system of exp for kills / quests, but the Oddity one rewards stealthy / talky characters a lot more.
If you want as little combat as possible it works as a neat alternative. But its definitely slower leveling than standard.
>>321435579
>Oppourtunistic Attack
Stun + Burst?
Sure, but out ranging with cryo psi or chaining into a second stun/freeze/ect is always more useful.
I'll give it a try in the next fight I guess.
>>321435291
Classic is the 'alternate' system here.

>>321435291
From what I've seen, you level a lot faster in Classic, just by killing stuff that gets in your way and doing quests. I like Oddity even on a combat-focused run because it both keeps the difficulty curve from falling behind and nearly removes the possibility of accidentally overleveling yourself from the game.
It also feels a lot more rewarding when you explore some nook of the map and get a unique +3 EXP oddity for it.
How much is this game? Can't check because the steam servers are down.
>>321436253
Opportunist
Increases damage against rooted, stunned and incapacitated targets by 25% and against slowed targets by 15% with weapons, unarmed attacks and throwing knives.
Electrokinetic and TK punch provide Stun, the cryo stuff all has slow, I'm pretty sure the freeze one counts as immobilize, havent played around with the mind control tree enough to say. Its got a lot of combo potential.
Also, stun is the only effect that provides resistance to itself on fail - So, for instance, Flashbang grenades, or short circuiting bots. You'll be surprised, Opportunist is huge is what I'm saying.
What I want to know is the mechanics for other damage boosters - Do they stack as raw percentages, or multiply up

I'm playing every day since release and I only reached the Institute just now.

>mfw using it on enemies constantly
>that statisfying crunching sound it makes
This game has been in my Steam library for like at least a year and I have no idea how it got there.
wtf is with these games? why do they look so sterile and clean? this was also obvious in the shadowrun games
>Hype all month to get this game on Christmas
>Store fucks up
I JUST WANT TO PLAY, FUCK
>>321447106
Well that's impossible because it came out 7 days ago Anon.
>>321447436
Isn't this game made by 1 dude? He probably didn't have enough time to smear shit all over the place.
>>321447470
GoG works just fine.
>wanting the DRM infested shit version from virtual hat selling company instead of backupable setup.exe
Literally braindead.
>>321447640
Early access.
I feel like sniper rifles don't get any love when it comes to feats.
I mean they are one-shoting pretty much everything with all +crit damage one can get, but the only ability feat they get is Aimed Shot and Snipe, and both are not exclusive to them.
Meanwhile pistols get all the cool shit like point shot, kneecap shot, rapid fire, execute, steadyfast aim etc.
>>321447910
Why stop there? Just pirate it.
This game gives too many choices. My autism can't handle it.
Does Old Jonas get anything decent in to sell or should I just trade his watch for Health Hypos?
>really want to play this game for the atmosphere and immersion

pls dont flame me but I really don't want to bother with this, anyone got any ideas for a versatile class that's good for a first run they can make/share with me?

This is pretty much my main reason for being wary about Abram. I don't really give a fuck about the rest of the factions, but I like SGS and don't want to fuck up my relationship with them.
>>321449560
Melee / TK. Dont bother with guns or crossbows, get every ability from the trainer Bisson in the first town, you'll wreck face easilly. Make sure to take lockpick/hacking and tailoring, everything else optional.
>>321450247
Don't do it then. You will miss some sweet lore though
Seriously, how the hell do you use night vision goggles? What button do you need to press for night vision?
>put points into dex/agility/perception

>>321449560
Anon, you are going to play that character for the rest of your playthrough, you really shouldn't ask others to do it for you. Character creation really isn't as intimidating as it might first seem, it's mostly obvious what goes together well with what.
>>321446619
i played the game a bit in early access, hence i put difficulties for the different faction exclusive ones too.

>>321450874
Never mind
I've had this on my pc since the day after it came out but i haven't played it yet since i'm totally unsure of how to build my character. I guess i'll go for a stealthy gunslinger but i've no idea how the stats work in this.
I don't even know whether to use the traditional exp system or the oddity system, oddities sounds cool and reminds me of stalker but i would rather just have normal exp because i want some kind of reward for killing and quests.
>>321450434
Ahhh damn. I only have time for one playthrough. Fuck. Maybe I should rush through it and roll back to an earlier save.
is it normal to be getting your shit rekt by the junkyard muties? I mean, I know I can just avoid them (mostly), but I want to loot the rooms they're all standing in. Grenades barely make a dent in them.
I never had this much fun sneaking around, shooting my crossbow and stealing/breaking into shit in my life. The oddity leveling up system is pretty interesting too, at least so far.
This game is like the old days, /v/
;_;
>>321451364
>is it normal to be getting your shit rekt by the junkyard muties?
Yes.

How the HELL is this game so addicting? I mean, I should have seen this coming- I love exploring dungeons. I love turn-based combat.
But... God fucking damn, 3 hours at a time! When I think "I'll just walk around this abandoned facility for a while".
Shit, man.
Game's got some dark magic running thru it's veins.
>>321453065
Well shit, I haven't even come across the mutants yet. I need to git gud.
>>321451227
Oddities still give you XP for quests.
If you take stealth, you'll DEFINITELY want oddity since you won't be able to kill every single thing.
>>321453210
I feel you. Someone on the 'Dex who finished the game said the ending hints at a sequel/expansion, and I really, really hope he is right. After an eternity of waiting AoD is out, Underrail is out, but aside from Copper Dreams what else can we look forward to now? I already know I'm going to feel empty as fuck inside once I'm done with this game.
>>321408521
Absolutely

Play Serpent in the Staglands.
>>321412051
It will most likely devour your next month.
>>321414331
Psi abilities are tougher starting out, especially that ice bolt one. Sure-hit, long range.
For me, guns started being useful later on when I started balancing it with some good gun related perks like the SWAT and Specialist ones.
>>321454636
RTwP blows lmao
>>321454437
Which RPGs you hit so far? Grimrock 2 was the last to "envelop" me like this.
>>321454636
It's on my to do list, and I'm sure it will be decent. This is why I'm willing to to trust the devs enough to look forward to CD. Well, and because I really need a good cyberpunk rpg and Shadowrun really isn't my thing.
Does your psi pool recharge between fights? Can you get it high enough to handle lots of opponents or do you have to pull a few at a time then recharge?
>>321455086
WILL greatly affects psi regen. INT a bit less.
If you want to be pure psi, you should focus on these.
>>321455079
I actually had no idea Copper Dreams is made by the guys who did SitS. I just recommended SitS because it's similar.
>>321455086
Also, the game has relatively clever AI for enemies, like in a stealth game.
So, you can't just "pull" enemies willy-nilly and have their chums wait back.
>BURNING
>FEAR
Someone please post some decent in depth build tips for a scrub. I'd wander the steam community looking for builds but I obviously can't.
>>321455879
Just play the fucking game.
The game is balanced relatively well and as long as you don't go full retard you'll do fine. Pick a nice concept, run with it and don't spread out too much.
>>321455043
Recent RPGs that really grabbed me? Not many. I had fun with SMT: Strange Journey on the DS. In all fairness I never got around playing the RoA and Dark Sun games, so if there's nothing else I'll probably play those. But AoD and Underrail were these two games that I always thought of as things that will one day happen, and when they do it will be awesome. But now that they are out it's just weird to have nothing to be excited about.
literally nothing more frustrating than being stunned in a fight desu, might as well just reload the game at that point.
You guys seem like you'd know this, how are The Quest and Thea: The Awakening? They seem good.

I used to play The Quest on my HP iPAQ Pocket PC, running Windows Mobile 2003.
I don't remember much of it, but I don't remember it blowing my mind. Aside from the fact that I could play a mini-Daggerfall on the shitter.
But it's worth keeping in mind it's not some new niche gem, it's a rerelease of an old mobile game. It was in iPhones too I think.
>doing thta mission to kill black crawlers with gorsky
>mental rape in AoE
>gorsky uses execute
>one-shot black crawler's boss
holy shit
Okay, what the fuck.
Twice now, I've had the option to intimidate in a conversation, and twice it has done pretty much nothing.
Am I somehow, someway failing the intimidation check (Despite having 10 fucking int and max intimidation for this point of the game) or are these options just for more flavor text?
The intimidation check I'm referring to right now is the one with Mordre (the big nig who is fishing and smoking cigars)
He said if he told me his name he'd have to kill me, so I reply with the edgy as fuck "I'd like to see you try" and he's just like. No, you wouldn't.
THAT WAS ALL. What the fuck, yo.
>>321458203
Do you like exploring dungeons?
If so, yes.
Is this any good or i shouldn't waste regenerative vest for now?
>>321458894
Oh man, I remember that guy. Who was he again? I know I attacked him after that and he slapped my shit pretty hard.
>>321459161
I like exploring dungeons, and I also like getting brutally raped and murdered in dungeons.
>>321459232
Regen vests may not be common but they're not rare either
How do I shoot a trap that I can't disable? There's one blocking this chest that I need to get to for a quest, and I can't tank the damage.
>>321459310
Then go forth, and explore the caverns where the remnants of humanity eke out their final days.
Bring along a molotov or two.
How similar to Fallout 1 and 2 is this?
Seems pretty interesting.
>>321459546
Throw a 'nade at it.
Man, am I glad for having the psionic fireball ability.
>>321459718
Oh shit, that actually did work. I was sitting there for like 10 minutes trying to pop at it with my pistol.
Someone give me a simple and effective build. I'm tired of being stressed about build making.
Is Biology even worth leveling a lot? Can I just get it to like 25 and then stop?
>>321459664
The game's basically Fallout 1\2 in the Metro 2033 setting.
Also, it has more focus on combat & exploration.
Which works out for the best, since the player has lots more abilities and possible builds to use in combat.
>>321459858
Take offensive skill
focus on offensive skill
upgrade dodge\evasion all the way
retard
>>321459858
Sneaky gunslinger, with a few points into throwing for accurate grenade tosses. Don't worry about social skills, since they're pretty much useless in this game. Crafting and lockpicking/hacking are far more useful.
>>321456593
The quest is meh.. don't feel like elaborating on it.
Thea on the other hand is interesting to say the least.. It didn't quite seem finished when I played it ( about a month ago) but from what I played it was still good. My only complaint was that while it feels expansive and very well made, the devs for whatever reason really made it incredibly repetitive. And I mean repetitive. One game until death will wear you the fuck out, good luck leveling up your gods.
all in all thea is well made but is short on content, feels repetitive, and doesn't expand enough in terms of skills, buildings, cities, monsters, and what you do past grinding for better loot +exploring
>>321460025
But psi has 3 offensive skills.
And then you need a backup like throwing or traps.
So 4.
>>321459923
Neat, I'd pick it up if Steam wasn't shitting itself currently.
>>321460120
you don't even need to level throwing
i'm at 0 throwing and i'm effectively using grenades/flashbangs
>>321460125
It's on GoG too
>>321458894
Honestly, intimidate seems fairly useless so far aside from unlocking "Yell". I'm not even sure how useful that ability is. Most enemies seem pretty much the same, even when the debuff gets applied.
>>321459923
>tfw everyone was complaining about their psi builds at first so you avoided going that route, but now it seems like psi builds are the most OP
damnit
>>321460326
Are you far into the game?
>>321460446
I'm not even full psi.
I'm a thermo-SMG-stealth combo.
And yeah, it's useful.
But none-psi builds definitely have their own pros and perks. Go with what you started and kick some ass! Be plucky!
>>321460446
Complained? I don't remember anyone complaining about psi builds.
Anyone else playing on hard? So far it's not brutal anal rape tier. Just got into junktown after finishing the gsm quest. Didn't have the persuade to get the key card to get into the burrower cave, but meh. I don't feel like fucking with them either.
Gsm was pretty cool with all the vent sneaking and turret activation. Also finally got my first AR, sold a bunch of loot and now i'm swimming in cash. Should i just buy blueprints for weapons or wait until i find then?
>>321461734
Blueprints are cheap as fuck and you won't find many useful ones.
>getting drugged up in core city

>>321462170
>HERE COMES THE CRAWLER MAN
>>321461734
>Didn't have the persuade to get the key card to get into the burrower cave
I didn't either, but he still just gave it to me when I asked again. Maybe because I agreed to drop the issue back at GMS instead of attempting the persuasion, so he left the place in a fairly good mood. But if you talk to the metathermics psi teacher, he will convince him for you, in case you want to go there later.
This game could use a bit more grammar checking.
>>321462652
is serbian.
to be of forgiving.
>>321462814
Yeah i know. It's not really a complaint.
If you invest in a crafting skill, should you invest everything in that skill, or is there just a certain amount to get then just drop it?
>>321463065
The latter.
Why the fuck are grenades not weapons, but "utilities"?
>>321463234
Anybody got those numbers yet?
>>321462652
I kind of like the funkiness of it. It gives the impression of being foreign without forcing horrific faux-future slang.
>>321463364
And the translation didn't result in E.Y.E. level of madness, so it's all good.
>>321462564
I'll give it a go, tho i did click on that persuade button, even though i had 0, lol.
Which one is the metathermics teacher? I didn't take the pill.
>>321463589
>implying madness wasn't an inseparable part of E.Y.E.
What does increasing psionic skill even do other than let you learn better skills? My damage hasn't increased and the only ability that mentions a damage increase is Neural Overload and that's from increasing int.
>>321463975
The guy in the biolab cutting up some corpse. He wants that sweet burrower poison to examine.
>>321464139
Your damage does increase with the skill. Next time you level up check the numbers before and after.
Just out of interest, what level were you guys when you did the Depot?
What's the point of giving the player a house? I thought the entire thing was a murder attempt.
Is this game well written? Do the characters and writing keep you playing or only just the gameplay?
>>321465231
It's not bad but it's definitely not good either.
As a Psi character with 10 Will, should I be putting a stat point in Will every 4 levels pretty much no matter what or?
>>321465092
I'll have to double check then. Seemed the same.
>>321413560
Whats wrong with his statement? Stop being a cunt.
Even if you have a 90% chance of something its still a probability. You can miss infinite times.
>>321465465
Depends on your build.
I'm going for a sneaky psi agent. So I have a few points in dex and agi for guns and sneaking.
>>321460125
GoG version is better in every way. It's the same game, but without DRM. Same price. Just add non-steam game to library for steam chat.
>>321465231
It has a story. It has characters. And it also has lore. It has branching quests, factions, and some c&c. But no, this game is not about any of those, it's about the gameplay and the exploration.
How much dialogue/lore dumping is in this game?
I'm too old for that world-building shit
All I wanna do is tactical hack 'n' slash
>>321465231
the overall stroycraft is pretty good and does a great job of giving the world a sense of mystery and intrigue, but the writing can be fucking atrocious in places.
>>321466373
Pretty slim for the most part, even during info dumps most of the time there's a dialogue option to tell them to skip to the relevant information.
You're going to have to read if you want to figure out what the fuck you're doing for quests as there's no markers, no map and your quest log says fuck all.
Who else thinks a summon system would complete this game? Not even just for another build but so you don't get instagibbed during a stun or incapacitate.
Like mechanics + electronics could leas to building one.
Psi could have a ice/fire golem. Thought control could use the dopplerganger.
Bio could raise dogs or crawlers, etc
>>321466373
Not that anon, if I preferred the opposite (more dialogue/lore dumping) and a good amount of tactical combat, will this game be fun?
>>321466991
Psi has a 'summon' through doppelganger.
But yeah; mechanic and electronics would be awesome with your own custom drone.
Maybe bio tames animals.
>sneak past a bunch of bullshit and enter another area
>go back
>a stealthed crawler was aggrod before I left the area
>it is waiting, still aggrod, just where i enter, within sight of a bunch of other mobs
>whenever I enter I get stung, poisoned and stunned and get aggro from everything
This is bullshit.
>>321465186
Money sink.
I thought it's a murder attempt as well.
I'm playing a character right now that only has Thought Control as my offensive skill.
Which of these feats will be better to take first (I'm obviously gonna go for both as soon as possible). Cerebral Trauma or Mental Subversion?
Bare in mind my only attacking skills so far are Neural Overload and I'm about to get Frighten.
>>321467137
No. However if you like when the story is told both through minimal dialogue and environment/atmosphere, and also a good amount of tactical combat, go for it.
>>321467459
>I'm playing a character right now that only has Thought Control as my offensive skill.
jesus christ you're in for a world of hurt. invest in psychokinesis asap
>>321467137
Yes, the majority of the game is tactical combat and thinking.
>still finding psi even after a week of exploration
>still have a huge potential to grow as everything scales and gets a huge trait bonuses
Psi/magic system in this game is one of the best i saw in computer rpgs probably. Simple, yet everything has a great synergy.

>>321467829
I think i've fucked up with 1 dex point although it made my bare fist attack consume 6 ap instead of 7, but otherwise i'm really happy with how this character turned out to be.
It's basically a full psi who rapes everything in melee distance with fist weapons and naked psi fists.
Where is the guy who made this from again?
>tfw carrying around 2k SGS money and around 500 charons
>vendors in SGS always want my charon coins when I click the "auto" button
Why won't they automatically take their own shitty currency?
Anyone know how I can kill Elwood without aggroing the whole casino? Lights are off, and I always kill him in one shot (doesn't matter if I use fists or Psi), also have tried both the small area between the two rooms and the larger room.
>>321468824

What country is this game from? Who gets the credit?
>>321469234
If that stat is Dex? HELL YES. Every point of dex is one less AP cost on light weapon swings. With taste of blood I swing for 4 AP on unarmed, with Tabi. And I think I've got three more points I can dump into it, then theres still drugs and food I'm not using. I havent got all the feats that put the debuffs on yet either, I'm told those stack for mad damage bonus. Infected wound, broken ribs, combo, pnumatic hammers, this shit is insane. Just gotta fit fancy footwork in and I should be blitzing from every corpse to the next.

>>321469075
I'm a few points short in traps to use the poison ones, and I am not a gunslinger. The guards also seem to have super high perception even with the lights out, so my high stealth is worthless =(
>>321468296
I'm fine with enemies doing stealth and attacking me, but them ambushing me as soon as I enter an area is bullshit, especially when it happens as I am returning from exploring and have to go through there.
>>321469958
You CAN absolutely beat them out with enough - Remember this is a game where the main city dudes have stats in the early hundreds.
>>321469840
