I don't play AAA games. Also Pascal is coming.
>>

Because a card half its price will play everything now perfectly.

Because by the time 4k or fuck even 2k get decently supported and power like the 980ti is needed it will look like a lumbering piece of shit and another 300 dollar card will replace it and surpass it.

Its an over investment, better to split the price and use the other half for a more frequent upgrade.

the 970 is very similar in performance to a 390.

You could most likely run everything at 144fps with your current card if you did want to upgrade.
>>
I got two identical GTX 770s, but my motherboard is 8 year old warhorse, which turned out to have more longevity than any of my human relationships.

It doesn't support SLI, due to Intel and Nvidia nonsense, so it's CrossfireX motherboard. I have been looking at HyperSLI though, anyone got any experience with that, is it worth it for a project? Honestly don't really need it, because my computer runs pretty much everything I throw at it anyway, but it might be a fun project, while I wait for DDR4 to be more common.

I have a HD7850 in my desktop which I'll be replacing with a 390X or 970 sometime this year, or I might just build a whole new desktop entirely.

Yeah I got my 7850 when the 7970 was a top range card. I think it was around 2011, had the desktop for 4 years now, it chugs along running anything that isn't BF4, so I'm considering building a new desktop

Actually fuck it I'm going to throw one together on centercom (australian) and see how long i'll have to work to get a fully completely new one.

if you're gonna poorfag, the 970 is an acceptable stopping point. The 980 is an ungly middle child now that the ti is out. 980ti is within 4% performance at worst and often better than a titan x (because custom PCBs and coolers) for less money while only a slight bump in price than a standard 980 and a big jump in performance. So, 970 or 980ti.

Alright fuckers I settled on a build that will last me at least the next 4 years. Playing mostly at 1920x1080, have 2xgb ram already, 2 HDD's, a 1080p monitor that's at least 24-28" and a a G400 mouse that has lasted me 4 years and will probably last another 4 years.

Keep in mind i'm australian so GPU prices are ~300$ for a bargain bin card. I'm also not worried about CPU's as the only real bottleneck you get now is if you buy an i3 or pentium duo.

so that's why many people were using 290X for buttcoin mining, highest compute per dollar.

buttcoin miners ruining everything, can't even buy used GPUs now without worrying about it shitting the bed early.

I'm fine with 1080p 60fps with my Memecard now that I can actually play games instead of seeking indies during my laptop days.
Nor am I made of money and particularly interested in 1440p, 4K and what not.
Its fine for me now.

980ti costs like $1100 US here in Australia.

Fuck that shit.
>>
>>321393049
500AUD = 364.75USD

A rope and a chair.

No point folding on your shiny new titan x either lol.
>>
I'm too poor so I'm gonna get a 960 4GB instead and upgrade later
>>
>>321393187
1100AUD you mean, so around 800USD
>>
What's with everyone saying AMD cards are about to be better than Nvidia? The majority of games run on gameworks and it'll probably remain that way
>>
>muh amd
>muh brute force
>>
>>321393049
Australian man, it's the best price I can find, and I don't want to downgrade to a 960 for 360$ because I'm worried about performance.
>>
>>321385278
The last time everyone stopped waiting and went ahead and bought a card was during the 970 debut. I sure hope it was worth the wait

>>
>>321385059

>>
My 770 still let's me play everything at high or ultra settings with 60 fps so why
>>
>>321397651
>60 fps pleb

FUCKEN LOL

because i have a HD6950 that still works perfectly fine and every single nvidia card that ever came into my house almost caused a fire.

not even kidding. was going to fix my mothers computer for xmas but the videocard started fucking smoking and smelt like burnt shit.
>>
>>321397651
some cunts like to play in 2560x1440 at max settings for some unknown fucking reason.

I've settled for 1080p, the screens are the best size for my preferred seating position and while the quality IS better at 1440p, it's not really a necessity at this stage in gaming, more of an icing on top kinda deal.
>>
because new architecture is out next year
which will fit almost twice the transistors per square inch
you would be a complete moron to buy a 980ti, especially since you most probably aren't even good enough to play games competitively. Having an expensive card doesn't mean you're any good at games. Most often the case is it is the opposite and you are overcompensating, only browsing websites at 1000fps and throwing money down the drain.
>>
GTX 970 has been working fine for me. And I don't own (or plan on owning) a 4k monitor anytime soon.
>>
My 770 is fine right now. Just plan on upgrading my CPU and thats it.

Yeah, I can't see any games worth playing that I can't run on my 770.
>>
i turned into an efficiency fag, that's why i got my 980.
i had the reference 290. it was extremely loud, ran hot, consumed a shit ton of power and Catalyst control center is the worst piece of software i have ever used.

the 980ti sacrifices some efficiency for raw power.
