Who plays these fucking early access survival games? Is there a single finished game in this entire genre?
It seems like the people who play these games just hop from game to game as they come out onto early access and inevitably get abandoned.

I weep for video games.
I think the problem is that there's no goal for these. You spawn, now survive.
That's no compelling narrative and when your gameplay is either a half functioning mod (DayZ bikes in the early days) or a mine craft clone there's just only so much your player base can do.
After mine craft devs thought "players will make their fun if I just give them a good enough toolbox" but that doesn't make your base game good.

Its a team game you play with like a 10 man team and you guys keep and control a base and area throughout the day. Its a really slow and intense sniper hunting game if you play by yourself. Otherwise, you work as a team to crush other survivor factions and make stealth runs to break into their bases and steal all their shit. Then once you gain a reputation on the server, people will actively seek you out and you form a vendetta and fight over all the supplies and things. DayZ Mod Epoch is what you should look at. Or maybe the Arma3 mods.

ARK is sort of there, but it's still unoptimized. At least ARK gets lots of updates that show that it's being worked on.

I really love survival aspects in games. I think Skyrim is a lot of fun with a bunch of survival mods installed. While exploring and questing, I have to keep track of my food/water, go hunting, dress for the weather, stay warm, find good places to build up a camp for the night. It really adds to the gameplay and makes it feel more "immersive."
But it's fun because while managing that day to day shit, I'm also doing quests and adventures and following a story.
Whereas all these survival games just drop you on an island with nothing to do but eat shit. Fucking boring.

This. Part of the fun of Monster Hunter is all the prep work in the field. Or in sky rim independence from towns is fun to cultivate. Your game should start as a toolbox full of fun stuff, then add a world and lore and purpose overtop. I guess just don't make survival the main conflict of the game

they are fun for a while, when you are still learning the game and everything is fresh and you are not taking it too seriously.
I think getting to level 40 or so in ark survival evolved was some of the most fun i have had playing games in years. but then you either get in a big tribe or you get slaughtered and once you are in a big tribe there i always so much monotonous work to do and some asshole ruins all your hard work for you when you are offline anyways, but still its fun for a while.
