Can we talk about how GOAT Mass Effect 1 is?
>>
>>321377230
Sounds like spore to me. That ended well
>>
Are Mass Effect 1 nostalgia goggles this generations Morrowind nostalgia goggles?
>>
>>321377230

Mass Effect 2 was better. Deal with it nerd.

I'll give you the soundtrack though.
>>
>>321377527
Mass Effect 2 is fucking great but ME1 is still my personal favorite. It's just so engrossing and comfy
>>
>>321377527
Maybe in mechanics but that's it. ME1 would be GOAT if they reworked the combat system.
>>
I loved driving around on planets, taking the vehicle where I could see the level designers didn't want it to go
>>
>>321377507
Morrowind remains the best Elder Scrolls game, unless you were born after the year 2000 in which case go back to the womb. A case can be made for Daggerfall, but Oblivion and Skyrim are objectively terrible games.
>>
I called ME1 my game of the decade.

The sequel was a disappointment but still fun. I couldn't bring myself to ever play 3.
>>
Mass Effect 1 has the best story line of any linear game (really I'm just excluding FO:NV). I will be surprised to see the day that another game matches the absolute perfect pacing and atmosphere that it was able to achieve. Also, the conversations with Wrex and Garrus on the Normandy still is the best written and acted dialogue of any game to date. How they fucking degraded from that level after the 2nd and 3rd game is a travesty.
>>
>>321377230

It's really good in some aspects and really bad in others.
Better than ME2 though, mediocre all the time.
>>
>>321377230
I hate how great games like this turn into watered down third person shoot em ups in their sequels..

>>
>>321377527

Where ME1 failed, ME2 improved and vice versa. ME2 major flaw is unnecessary oversimplifcations.
Take ME2's dungeon design and upgrade minigames, combine it with ME1's combat and you have a flawless game.
>>
>>321377507
Played the games in order, hated ME1 always. Replayed them recently, ME1 is now my favorite. Just had to grow out of my faggot phase to realize what a great game it was.
>>
>>321378668
ME1's combat
I dunno man, I played through ME1 about 2 weeks ago. I just cheesed the entire thing with a shotgun and it didn't feel very rewarding. I tried to use the Sniper but they were really fucking wobbly.

Just stop it. The exploration in ME1 was shit.
>>
>>321378948
The sidequest planets were shit, but the actual story-based planets were so fun and interesting to walk around in and explore, unlike ME2 and 3's shooter corridors.
>>
>>321378907
>Mass Effect 3 production values
Perhaps we played different games.
It's the third game in a popular series and there's still obviously cut corners in nearly every scene/mission.

Only reason to touch ME3 is the surprisingly fun multiplayer, and even that has little staying power.
>>
>>321378948
Yeah it's really overblown. The building on each planet was the exact same, even had the same crate placement inside. The bunkers on each planet were the exact same, and so were the mines. They were just copy and pasted assets, and they weren't very fun to fight through the second go around. Not to mention all the planets were just different colors but still the same.
>>
>>321378852
ME1's combat reeks on the surface. It didn't click with me at first, and I hated it. I turned squadmate abilities on auto-cast and just breezed through the game with a shotgun.

But the game shines on higher difficulties, where you really have to watch your ass and use squadmates very carefully or you'll get smashed by even the simplest enemies. I turned off auto-cast squadmates and micro-managed every encounter, and it was a blast. Teammate AI blows in ME2 & 3, but in ME1 they're incredibly responsive. I also didn't use the Mako for combat at all and did everything on foot. Gearing up teammates and preparing your squad according to what enemies you'll be fighting (humanoid or synthetic? too big to ragdoll? long or short range?) became a regular strategy. Had some pretty memorable encounters.
>>
>>321378852
at least ME1 had a crouch button and the game didn't accidentally force you out of cover like in the second. If there were around 16 weapons instead only 4 (due to superficial differences between the weapon categories) the combat of ME1 would be hailed as the best of the series.
>>

>Dat atmosphere when exploring planets with the Mako
Stop reading right there. Everyone rightfully hated how shit "exploring" was. Fuck you fags.
>>
>>321379170
Hell, even with the planets being as bad as they were, the ability to go down to them and explore did a lot of the game's atmosphere.

But building on that would have taken time and effort that Bioware stopped putting forward long ago.

Can't wait to see how much people praise what will surely be half-assed exploration elements in Andromeda.
>>
>>321379187

I unironically loved the Mako segments. The controls are rough but serviceable, and i just loved the idea of exploring the surface of an alien planet and the feeling of isolation and loneliness from the fact that there's almost nothing in it.

If the sidequest planets were actually different and featured diverse buildings and stuff to do then it would be the best part of the game.

One of the weirdest things about replaying the first game is seeing how toned down the crew members are. Seems like only the LIs get any kind of real characterization beyond their respective tropes. ME1 Tali feels like a completely different character from what she developed into during the second game. Everything about her becomes exaggerated, even her damn accent.
>>

Singularity + sabotage w/ area spread works wonders. I was a sentinel, and I brought Tali and Kaiden and we just zapped every drone that showed up. Poor little guys could only try and kill us with stern looks.

Ramming colossi and just molesting them with the Mako was much more satisfying then pelting them to death.

I replayed ME1 like a month ago for the first time in a couple years. I think I was at 11-12 hours playtime before I left the Citadel for the first time, and it didn't feel slow, boring or tedious even once. That's an impressive fucking feat. The whole experience definitely reminded me why it's earned a top 5 favorite spot.

>>321380398
And yet 3 still wouldn't be worth playing because they'd be too bizarrely proud to change the plot at all.

ME3 had the better gameplay, was harder (for the first time the game pushed you into using your powers if you wanted to survive), had more enemy variety and it improved armor/weapons variety compared to ME2. Also, you could make a lot of shit if you pirated the DLC.

I was going by the save file's timer. I think I left it running once getting called into work for 2 hours so yeah, it may be off a bit. I also went full autism and read every new codex entry as I got them, which probably added another 1-2 hours.
>>
>>321379413
What?, as someone who loves Space Engine i really enjoyed the mako.
>>
So they made a free little DLC to make the ending slightly less terrible and a big final DLC that was nothing but shameless cringe-inducing fanservice as a sort of apology, but still never patched in a replacement for the picture of Tali's face?
>>
ME2 was better overall, however, the innocence of ME1 still hooks me. After like 10 playthroughs it is very tedious to play now unfortunately. ME2 doesn't do that to me and I still enjoy the absolute shit out of it every time I play. Such a shame ME3 didn't merge what made both ME1 and 2 great. Would have been GOTYAYEYFAT.
>>
So yeah you guys should totally discuss and vote. Both true Bioware masterpieces. Both sci fi though different types. Which do you guys think is better: KotOR or ME1?

>>
>make a fugly duckfaced ME1 femshep but deal with it

I still have no idea how they managed to fuck up some faces so badly in ME3. Joker looks like an overworked sex offender all of a sudden and Ashley's face goes from generic but not hideous to literal manface.

What's even weirder is that getting with her in 3 can now count as a full romance.

I think what really helped me the most was establishing an alternative head canon to what was presented. The only way I can deal with the official ending is to just pretend it doesn't exist.

Sad, but there it is.

My alternative ending isn't even the "happy ending" most people seem to want. Shepard still dies, but it's at least in a method more befitting the Commander.
